The holster fits an1858 8"barrel Remington army revolver or a 1851 Colt navy or an 1860 Colt army

ya I would rather they give us the price by the square foot instead of price per piece for the simple fact it is so easy to get shorted and sill paying extra money for square fotage you did not get. tandy is becoming the perfect poster child for not getting what you pay for all the way from paying premium prices on middle of the road crafttools to shorting folks on the hides. I think Tuson Rick and I are on the exact same wave length! don't the corporate money grubbers understand that their sales would sky rocket if they would simply offer their tools, hardware and leather at a fair price. they will wind up bankrupting themselves again due to low sales margins because they are trying to gouge the hell out of folks with the overpricing of Chinese, Pakistan, Korean made products.. I would not complain nearly as much if the price was a reflection of the quality of their merch but it dont even come close I would expect to pay those prices for top quality US made products but everything TLF sells is from manufacturers in China, Mexico, Korea or Pakistan that is sub par middle of the road quality. even most of the leather is foreign made I hate to keep beating a dead horse but it is worth talking about if we can get TLF upper management to listen up and actually do something instead of blowing smoke up our ass by pretending to listen then saying we will look into that

Total Begginner - Need Feedback & Advice
St8LineGunsmith replied to BadW0lf's topic in Getting Started
Nope I dont think anyone will say you are wrong because that is exactly how a lot of us do it -
]oops sorry I quoted the wrong member but I edited my post. you have to buy from a supplier you are comfortable with however if you are getting better pricing and customer service than SLC I sure would like to see some links. Thanks in advance.

Total Begginner - Need Feedback & Advice
St8LineGunsmith replied to BadW0lf's topic in Getting Started
Hi Kate that is a good starter set however you will want to add stamps as you get more involved in tooling leather and you might want to get a small poly maul once you get more involved with stamping and tooling mauls are much more precision than the poly mallets. do yourself a favor and go ahead and join springfields wholesale club you will see the savings with the first time you use it. -
Compaired to Springfield leather company they are well overpriced if you want to see a real savings with Springfield join their wholesale club and they also honor Tandys gold club membership all you have to do is call Springfield and tell the rep you have a Tandy gold club membership and you would like to get signed up then they will get you squared away that way when you log on to their site you will get the wholesale pricing. as far as price comparisons a stamp from Tandy is ..$9.95 regular price, $8.00 gold club price the same stamp from Springfield is $7.49 regular price and $5.49 wholesale club price Tandys small poly maul list price is $99.00 Gold club pricing is.$80.00 you can get a Bary King maul from SLC for$46.00 Wholesale club price and $54.99 regular price. their leathers are higher quality than TLF for the same price or less.. so yesTLFin comparison to SLC is gouging the customers as hard as they possibly can.

Ah yes the old leather factory was much better before tandy bought them out the leather factory actually originated here in Chattanooga, TN at the old Shultz tannery the Shultz Tannery in no longer in business unfortunately. all thanks to Tandy.

if that would be the case then why would they bother to stock leather hides for sale I think the corporate office allows their managers to decide for themselves about that sort of stuff they want what is best for the bottom line and if holding leather classes to teach people how to make stuff from scratch makes the store money then corporate is all for it The Chattanooga store recently changed management and the new manager holds weekly Saturday classes on making things from scratch..

Don't Tread On Me Tribute
St8LineGunsmith replied to Eaglestroker's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Oh that is nice! that basket stamping stands out really good. -
Once they see no one is buying they will eventually put them on sale.they also combined all three volumes of the Stohlman encyclopedia of saddle making and bumped up the price from 59.95 per copy to 199.99 per copy. I think they are shooting themselves in the foot by offering these publications at such an astronomical price. just another example of corporate greed. nevertheless the FO Baird book is astonishing collection of leather project patterns and designs it is not worth the ridiculous asking price.

Jim I would love to see more of your patterns for sure!

What Size Thread Comes On The Sewing Awl Spools?
St8LineGunsmith replied to pgivens's topic in Sewing Leather
it is waxed triple strand pre wound nylon thread. I use this from springfield it is a little heavier than the thread for the awl spools but it sews nicely for heavy leather projects like holsters, gun belts and projects of that nature works well for chaps and possibles bags as well. http://springfieldleather.com/29843/Thread%2CWax%2CPoly%2CBlack%2C4oz/ here is a link for waxed nylon http://springfieldleather.com/29796/Thread%2CAwl%2CNat-4oz/ -
Ya the patterns worked very good.I did not deviate from your instructions so everything went together nicely I did use harness leather for everything as I mentioned to you except I used 2-3 oz Veg tan for the lining. I have to say that harness leather is a pleasure to work with, that stuff is like sewing butter.
-
Ya that is my thoughts as well however the leather I used was pretty sturdy so It really did not need reinforcement.
-
Brazos Jack This is off topic from the pomel bags but I made one of those shoulder holsters from the patterns you sent me I want to get some pictures of it uploaded as soon as I am able to find a way to get the pictures uploaded from my camera to my computer.
-
I did not use the tabs on the bag I made for I did not see much of a need for them however the tabs go in between the front flap and back
-
I made this bag for one of my wifes co-workers. he is supposed to take some pictures of it for me if he does I will post them here. the bag turned out pretty nice if I do say so myself. it is all hand stitched which took forever and a day! I won't make another one without a machine.

Is Thicker Leather Always Darker?
St8LineGunsmith replied to NicoleAlaine's topic in All About Leather
another thing about veg tanned leather it is very light sensitive, with time even a white piece of leather will tan darker however for the most part the color of the veg tannedleather is depensant on what kind of bark and the steps taken in how the tannery process their leather one tannery may uae more of a bleaching agent opposed to another tannery which can make the pigment lighter I think Royal Meadow is Tandys premium leather and is good quality however for that price point I would rather have Herman Oak Here is a youtube video that is very informative on the yeg tan process -
for the type of tools you are looking for I would recommend cs osborne leather tools https://www.osborneleathertools.com/ pricking chissels Scratch compass Stitching Awl Skiving Knife edger I would recommend a french edge beveler also I have these tools and they are very reliable you will have to put a better edge on the skiving knife but once you get it razor sharp it holds its edge good and the best diamond awl and haft i have is a sheetrock screw i ground down and I cutabout 3" off the end of a drum stick with the home made awl blade screwed into the tip end.
