I didn't find this thread until it had gone to the 7th page! Wow!! Food, well, since I'm in the southwest (I'm in southern California) we have some absolutely incredible MEXICAN food! Why hasn't anyone mentioned it before??? Tacos, enchiladas, empanadas, chipoltle sauce, habanero sauce, deep pit barbequed goat cooked with cactus leaves! Mexican isn't as hot as Thai, but it's not for wimps. Roads, here in the left coast, a freeway is either state or federal, has limited ingress/egress and can have as many as 6-7 lanes each way. A highway is usually a numbered state road and can be as few as 2 lanes (1 each way). We drive on parkways, park in driveways. We have no accent here, all the rest of you do but we don't! Since my first wife was from the Oklahoma/Texas border area, I tend to sound a bit like that at times. I have a problem with my second wife....she's from Toronto and says things like "rad e ator" and "bat tree" and "a boot" when she really means radiator, battery and about. Funny and fun thread and I hope it goes on!

I'm a very active member of 2 organizations; the American Sand Association (ASA) and California Off-Road Vehicles Association (CORVA). We are very involved in trying to do something about the Endangered Species Act (ESA). It was signed into law by Richard Nixon and it's intent at the time was to help species of "importance" that were on the brink of extinction. Species at the time were the bald eagle, the California Condor, etc. Those 2 have been brought back and trust me, it was because people got involved and actually did something to help. Since the '70's, the ESA has been broadly interpetted (I know I spelled that wrong, dammit!) to include not only the specie, but it's habitat as well. And the way they protect them? Do nothing. Keep away. Don't go near them or their habitat. Well, that's just plain ol' stupid and wrong. Right now, there are about 1800 species listed as "endangered" (which is more "critical" than just "threatened"). Of all the species listed, only (this is true) .01% have been considered recovered. The ESA doesn't work. Groups like the Sierra Club (SC), the Southwest Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), and many others, don't want the species to recover. If a specie recovers, they lose money. The way the ESA is written, all the SC has to do is say a specie is "threatened" or "endangered" and use the latest "science" available. Often times, there is no science or study available and they whip one out. They file suit against the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), the FWS goes to court, loses the case, the SC gets reimbursed for all their expenses. That means that you and me, the taxpayers of the USA, pay for these scumsuckingcamellickers to close off land and access to everyone. Then, we, the taxpayers, still have to pay for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) or other agencey to "manage" the area. The SC and CBD are not above lies. A particular area I'm fighting for has a plant called the Pierson's Milkvetch (PMV). The SC said there were only 1,200 of the plants left, and they only grow in one place. We, the ASA, hired a well respected botanist (that incidentally used to work for the SC) to check it out. Over the course of 5 years, he determined that the plant wasn't endangered, that it was actually thriving, and that there were over 1,800,000 of them (BLM confirmed this count). Guess what? Because the SC "judge shopped" and found a San Francisco judge named Illston, the plant is still considered "threatened" and over 49,000 acres are closed to anyone that can't hike in on foot (you can't even ride a horse in there or take your dog for a walk in there). How stupid is that? As a final bit on my rant, the SC did get a land development stopped in Colton, California because there was an endangered "fly" on the land. No shit. A fly. Yeah, I'm not gonna swat one of them, ya know? While I'm not for just going out and destroying things, animals, plant, etc., we are getting screwed. Back to the issue of exotics...... Legally obtained, use them by all means. Just because some group says an animal is "endangered" doesn't mean it is so. PETA is a bunch of fanatics. They should be "culled" and their hides tanned. We could use the leather.

I'd have to look and see the titles in order. The last 3 were sort of a "trilogy." Each of previous books ended sort of on a "good" note but the last 3 just kept the story going. Overall, I really liked them and would read them again. Very well defined characters, story line stayed accurate throughout, like Goodkind's philosophy. Yeah, in parts it did "drag" a bit, but overall was well paced. From the trailers, it appears that the person playing Zedd is a bit on the young side. Richard and Kahlan look about right, but, who are they going to get to play Nicci? In the books, Kahlan said when she first saw Nicci she felt like a dirt clod as Nicci was so beautiful, and Kahlan is no slouch!

No, the yellow one is for next year. The yellow car is a Sand Limo (I forget the model) 2-seat with an LS1. We always have "next years" car a year in advance. We then tour the car and sell tickets all year long. The tickets are $20 each, 6 for $100. This family won an Extreme EcoII with an LS1 Chevy. There are pics of it on the link. Last year, a guy bought a ticket for a friend in Norman, Oklahoma, for doing a favor for him! We shipped the car to Oklahoma! Should've heard the guy on the phone when we called him!

I have read the whole series of SofT twice! OK, except the last one. I read them all again waiting for the last one. Can't wait to see the series!

I just got back Sunday night from spending 3 days at the Sand Sports Super Show (all about dune buggies, quads, beer, bad food, ahhh it was heaven!! ). I am a representative of the American Sand Association and have a large showing at this expo. Every year, we raffle off a new sandrail. We sell tickets all year long and then on Sunday afternoon at the SSSS we draw a name and give it away. We set up a small booth near the stage where the car was placed along with the DJ and I had a couple of pretty teenage girls selling tickets and a model from NOS Energy drinks at the booth handing out free samples. Sold a lot of raffle tickets. Sunday at noon, this guy gets a sample of NOS and the girls are asking him to buy a raffle ticket. He says he will if the girls will kiss the ticket for good luck! They do, he buys it and goes on his way thinking he'll never win. HE DID!!! Too cool! The car builder's daughter drew his name from the barrel and he wasn't in the crowd so we called him on the phone to tell him he won. Suddenly we lost connection and then this guy comes running up to and jumps on the stage with his cell phone in his hand saying he won! His wife and 3 sons were just behind him! They were so excited, they were crying and laughing! Nice family! Great to see someone like this win! Here's a link to some pics. The girls that sold him the ticket, Brooke and Tasha, are in at least one pic, his family is in several. http://www.sandsports.net/Images/PhotoMain...es/DSC_0320.htm Congrats Jason! Enjoy the car! Great weekend!

What are you drinking right now?
Washroad replied to JustWakinUp's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Being a trojan hating BRUINS fan I'm a bit.....ya know...... last night it was my usual JD straight, no ice, just poured into a glass. Today, after cleaning up the yard and realizing my 7 month-old Border Collie decided to chew the wiring off the motorhome lights in front, I'm just here now drinking Diet Coke. I'm in California ya know. ......we order double cheeseburgers, fries and Diet Coke! -
Hmmmm. A quick Google turned up this...... http://www.istorez.com/m/tag/rodeo%20drive%20divas Well, not exactly wearing pedal pushers, but.....hmmmmmm......any men complaining???

Yeah, we just gotta thank that RINO, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Shriver and our absofreakinloutely insane legislature. As far as using the eco-Flo dyes, they work just fine for wallets, belts, watchbands, etc. as long as you put a finish on them like Satin Sheen. I learned the hard way; if using different colors, seal each color one at a time. I did a belt, dyed it, then took a wool dauber and started spreading on the Satin Sheen and it all smeared really bad. The belt ended up black.

Yes, yes, yes. I've had to explain to my CFO (wife) that I really truly absolutely NEED this stuff! I've gotten to the point where I get my sister to go to the store for me and bring me the stuff at work and then I can sneak it home and somehow the CFO still knows!

Your English is fine....thank your friend! Now your work..... Absolutely superb!!!

Washroad replied to hiloboy's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
The Left Coast checking in again..... It's in the mid 80's today, light breeze, no clouds, very sunny, will cool off to low 60's tonight. Tomorrow will be the same for the 4th of July BBQ. The next day will be the same. So will the next day. Northern California is on fire and burning up. That sucks. Something like 60 houses have burned so far, over 1000 lightning strikes and almost as many fires. -
My name is Brian. I think it's a Scottish name. Dunno..... I'm an off-roader. There is a "Mecca" for off-roaders in California called Glamis. Biggest sand dune area in the United States. I camp there with my friends in "wash 16" and if you go to Glamis you know exactly where that is. To get to wash 16, I drive down 6 miles of whooped-out dirt road called the..... Washroad. So, my name means nothing to leather, but since I post on several bbs, I got tired of trying to remember just who the hell I was from one bbs to another and just changed everything to Washroad. Check out www.asasand.com and www.glamisdunes.com to see what I do for fun (actually, it's a lifestyle I hope to never give up). I love the smell of 110 octane in the morning!

^^^^^^^^ I've used water, gum trag, spit(!), nothing, plastic, wood, canvas, denim. Some pieces won't slick with one thing, try another. Eventually something will slick it up nice.

I just did this for a pair of my wife's shoes. I got out my drill index and found the right size, laid the strap on my cutting board, and just twisted the drill by hand. It went through the leather easily and left a clean round hole. She was happy!

I use a head knife, utility knife, xacto knife, pocket knife, scissors, just about anything. It depends a lot on what I'm doing, what ounce of leather, .

Fathers Day Belt
Washroad replied to jbird's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
This year, Sunday, June 15. jbird, wow! You're really doing well! Keep it up! and yeah, I'd wear that belt! -
Love the flask! I made one sorta something similar well not really but you get the idea long ago and a friend took it from me and I haven't seen it again where I could steal it back. I use Diet Coke to clean a lot of things, like the nasty floor at work, battery terminals, grease spills in the kitchen. Works great and doesn't leave a residue since there's no sugar in it. Plus, I'm such a caffiene addict, when there's no coffee around all I drink is Diet Coke and I have no desire to see what it's doing to me after 40 years!

we gots more to show!
Washroad replied to steveb's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
First of all, very nice work!!! "Measure twice, cut once" is an old saying for carpenters (ask my brother who taught me a lot ). Just had a guy order a belt from me. Said he wanted a 34" waist belt for himself. OK, says I. I asked him to give me the belt he was currently wearing......measured 36" to the place he buckled it! -
help please?
Washroad replied to hiloboy's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
hiloboy, If you apply Super Sheen before using the Eco-Flo dye, the Super Sheen will act as a "resist" and the dye will not absorb. You may try the neatsfoot, then dye, then Super/Satin Sheen. Got scrap???? Good luck! -
Business is slow, how about you

Want to see scary house prices? Check San Francisco. Jennifer, my house was built in '61. It had been a rental for 12 years when I bought it as a "fixer-upper" and I'll never do that again! What a freakin' money pit!
