Thanks for the info. I will do some more research and probably save more to buy a better machine. The resale of a better machine if I dont stick with it makes good sense. I emailed Bob about machines so am in contact with him too. Gabriel And looking at the Techsew webpage right now too.

Hello everyone. I have been reading through the posts and was wondering if anyone had a good suggestion for a starter machine? I need it to be able to do some pancake holsters and wallets. Any good suggestions? Looking for something cheap that would "just work" till I get good at sewing then I can upgrade to a much better machine. Thanks Gabriel

Thanks everyone for their opinions. I am going to bevel the dark areas and use the back grounding tool to "fill the spaces" per say. I seen in a book about silhouettes and think that is what I am trying to accomplish. Going to do a few practice pieces to get it correct the. Will try to tackle te real one. Will put a pic up when finished!

Thanks Justkate and JJ. I did a practice peice with a little part of the design prior to starting and thought the dark area beveling looked better (that's why I didn't draw a border around the pattern so the white area will blend with rest of wallet) but figured I would get some experienced leather workers opinion first. JJ, this is another "Aztec/maya" design I'm trying to get done for my Cinco De Mayo booth. Where I live, they have a huge celebration in the area around my neighborhood...parade, bands, booths etc. so I spoke with one of my friends who owns a store on the parade route and she said I could set up a booth outside her store. I have been drawing all my designs down in an art book so I have a book similar to a tattoo book that I could show to potential clients. Gabriel

I am attaching 2 photos. One the rough design that shows te idea, the other the wallet back. My question is should I bevel so the shadow part is higher or the opposite way? Just curious to what you would do? Thanks! Gabriel

Thanks! Doing a bunch of Aztec/Maya designs for some wallets and belts. This was the first put to leather. Have about 10 other designs ready in my book to go to leather, now just need to get to work.

I got my buffalo calf from tandys too. I got the dark brown one.

Welcome to the forums. As a dog owner/trainer I know how hard it is to put one of our 4 legged kids down. I love the idea for the wallet and like others suggested, the tooling will come with practice. Keep it up, learn from all the helpful people on the forumn and keep posting pics. Gabriel

Good thing I am not a fool lol. I have seen 5 items selling together for almost $450 on Ebay. I wouldnt sell them for anything less than they are worth, but I am not going to sell them at all.

I am happy my friend likes me enough to sell those to me so cheap. I told him about some prices I have seen for some of the tools and he said he knows they were worth something but glad he could help me out. Guess its time to make him a wallet and belt lol

I was at a thrift store the other day and saw this machine. It has a foot pedal with it. I talked the guy down to 20$ from 50$. I plugged it in and it runs. My question is this. Would this work for sewing wallets, watch bands and belts? Would it be a good buy considering price to learn on? I have some old sewing machines already, but for $20, if this would also work I want to get it. What do you all think?

I have heard that from the guys at Tandys out here too. They told me I don't know how lucky I was to get this stuff for so very cheap.
