  1. Bingo! Embossing is an old and effective technique. I use the leather grindings and hide glue for historical work.
  2. I use one as one of the benches in my shop.
  3. Roys29, Good post! A leatherworker should be able to sharpen and alter his tools and make his own patterns.
  4. Dye the edges THEN burnish.
  5. Ditto Bruce. It's the bar and the tongue to consider.
  6. You can also save money to buy better quality by omitting the strap end puches and learning how to do them with your dividers and round knife.
  7. Hi Macca, Some nice pieces. I personally use mine straight up in the English manner as it was how I was taught and what I am used to. I think the angled style to be more continental in origin and use.
  8. Way overpriced but if one cant make the master and cast
  9. There are a number of my handmade buckles in brass, steel and silver on my blog at www.fowlingpiece.blogspot.com
  10. Mine is my avatar. It is based on early 18th century maker's marks used by English gunmakers. I use it on my leather and on gun barrels.
  11. Why not go with left hand twist from Campbel Bosworth? You are hand stitching yes?
  12. Wet/dry sandpaper on a popcicle stick for a backer shoul work on 7 or 8. TPI or less.
  13. Yep just a little stoning needed. Not something that's needed often if taken care of but certainly an in-house fix.
  14. I can see the possibility of the use of hide glue in the process in times past. I use it in an old time concoction for an edge coating.
  15. Pretty common around farms during the early 1900's for the repair of harness
  16. If it is a veg. tan you need to burnish it prior to all the "stuff" being put on it. Some veg. tan takes a burnish better than others. Lightly dampen, wait a small interval (varies) and the buff with canvas, etc.
  17. I am in the minority. Mine is about 3/16" square roughly. The reason for this is I also use it for a barrel mark for my guns as well. I plan to make one just less than 1/2" or leather only as soon as I can find time.
  18. I am a traditionalist so everything is pricked and the stitching awl is used.
  19. All sold Thanks
  20. All sold, thanks
  21. Back in the gun shop until the end of the month. Hopefully I can get back to the leather shop for a large order by then

  22. If anyone is only interested in the three new Joseph Dixon tools, I can do 95.00 shipped (cont. USA) for them. Thanks
  23. Mod. has been notified for removal since I posted this in the wrong forum. Its been a long time since I used the full version instead of the mobile for this website and I got confused.
