Got this sheath done today. Drop point hunter o-1 tool steel brass bolster and spalted maple(I think). Sheath is again w&c with a green deer skin liner. Tried out the tri weave stamp which was a bit tricky. Thoughts as always welcome

I didn't catch the title auto corrected on me to bonus for...instead of bonis fur..is there a way to fix that? edit button is not there.... Thanks
-
For your consideration not one but 2 Bonis fur machines. The black one has the table and clutch motor with it the other is just the head. They move freely . I've had them for a while but dont have a use for them $400 for both. Located in Pocono region of Pennsylvania Ross

Ball cap bill add on

It added weight and I was concerned about that. But at least to me doesnt seem to be bad. But I can see some may not like the extra weight so I suspect it's a preference item. I think not was around 7 ounces I didnt measure just grabbed what felt correct. I think I might drop back a bit maybe 5oz if I do it again. I like 7 or 8 for carving I'm just comfortable with that thickness carving. -
Never ends does it. It's a good thing!

Not all mine go this well either lol. Off to find me some more rabbits. Thanks

I'm far from a metal expert. But for me I heat the o-1 to non magnetic and then quench in oil. After that I temper for an hour at 425 degrees. Then cool then a second hour at 425 again. I've played with different times and temper temps.(including just 1 cycle) I have also read many things regarding o-1 and soak times . Im confident with a proper heat treat oven you can get a more refined product. However I've been happy with my testing of the knives and I've used knives I've made for years with good results. My advice if you can get it and it's not real expensive try it. Test it see how it works for ya. Other options include 1084, 1095, among many others. I guess I got comfy with o-1 and keep using it, it holds an edge well and I can heat treat with my forge at home. Try stuff enjoy the journey Thanks for the compliments Ross -

Progression of a knife sheath
Rossr replied to Rossr's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I had gotten some at maverick leather . Just a matter of if they have them on hand. 2 to 4 ounce I believe for thickness. I had the same questions about chrome tan. Good thread with lots of info below. -
Well I had another leatherworker share with me a hat he had added a carved leather piece to the bill. I thought it was neat so for fun I made this one up. Carved maple leaf and deer antler, stamped the letters. Machine sewed it on. Fun stuff Ross

Simple key fob
Rossr replied to Rossr's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I always worry the snap will come undone and keys fall off. That being said probably a non issue. I have crates of my scrap leather one for black one for browns and one for veg tan. I just hate throwing any out so I try to use what I can. -
Made up a simple key fob. Stamped the Marine emblem in it and then glued some scrap green deer skin on the back. Then decided to double loop lace it. Only down side is the ring is a little tight. Figured I'd share Happy hump day Ross
