  1. This all really boils down to personal preference. When you die something black it has a bad habit of rubbing off. Don't die the bottom side of the suspenders you make for your chief, lol. Personally the majority of what I use is natural veg tan. You can also use vinegaroon if your item is going to be all black. In my opinion start out with natural and go from there. Yes the majority of guys do use copper rivets. I don't because everyone else is. Once again it doesn't really matter it just comes down to what you like. Brian
  2. I hope my wife doesn't see this. She will be wanting me to figure out how to make them for her.
  3. I have been looking all over the place and cant seem to find it. Does anyone sell around 8 oz leather in different colors such as pink, red, green and others. Maybe something like bridle? It seems weird that I can't find this. Also, does anyone make a tool to punch out all the holes for a belt or dog collar at once? Either using a clicker or hammer? Thanks Brian
  4. Thanks a lot! That helped a ton
  5. I am looking for a different variety in center bar buckles. I currently use springfield for most of my purchases but they don't have quite the selection I am looking for in buckles. Do any of you have a good resource for a supplier of center bar buckles? Brian
  6. Thank you so much for the response. Sounds like it might work for me. Basically I need it to sew two pieces of 8 ounce leather together until I can buy a more expensive machine. This would be my first machine. Anything I should be aware of when going to look at it today?
  7. I have a chance to buy a Consew model 28 machine. I found the manual online but it doesn't tell me everything I need. Does anyone know how thick of leather this will sew? Any idea what this machine should run? Brian

I am actually making a trip down there next weekend. I may just wait until then to see what they have. Thanks Brian

Thank you for the information. I meant bison. Seems like most of those places want you to buy a full side. Not sure if I want to do that just to experiment with the leather.

I am wanting to make some leather wallets out of buffalo. I haven't made wallets before but I really just want to try making something out of buffalo. Anyway, I usually buy my leather from Springfield but it doesn't look like springfield has anything lighter than 4-5 ounce and only one color option. Anyone know of a good place to get buffalo leather?

  12. Man that is impressive. How long does something like that take?
  13. Very nice work! Frenchy07 I can send you an outline of my shields if you don't get a response.
  14. Personally I think you did really good for your second project. Some people can learn by doing kits from Tandy. Personally I don't learn that way. I would rather just jump in and destroy some leather. Keep at it, you are doing good. Grab yourself a pricking iron. That will help with the stitching.
  15. Very nice!! I ride a Victory.... well, when my wife lets me. I will share this pic with the guys I ride with.
