David...thanks for again taking the time to document the process. It was a write-up of one of your seat builds that inspired me to get into bike leather about 4 years ago, which is a big part of what I do now. Now if you would just bottle your talent for design... I believe I'm gonna be ordering some of that lace...'roo is pricey, but so nice to work with, and I'm guessing it wears well since you've been using it for so long. I've 'bout had it with the cowhide lace...breaks easy like you said, and the quality seems to be going south. I think you've made a believer out of me. --Phl

Fantastic restoration...yep, better than new! What kind of foam did you use?

looks terrific, man...especially like the way the design is layed out and ties everything together. I know the owner's gotta love it, and he'll be sending a lot of work your way

antique
Gray replied to figthnbullrider's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I like the effect that Feibing's Gel Antique produces, but I've had trouble with antique on motorcycle leather washing away very quickly...last item I did was a fender bib...thought I'd try cova colors (3 coats), 1 application of gel antique filling in the impressed lettering, finished with 3 airbrushed coats of Tandy Super Shene...antiquing went away the first time the bike was washed...bummer. Luckily it was for a friend. What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way of getting that two-toned antique effect on motorcycle leather? TIA. --Phil -

Well, no donuts for me...but I like the tooling, and the vid was funny. I like your style, man... --Phil -
Your work just continues to inspire and teach me, David. Good news on the seats, man...

"I'll give the guy a month with those bars and he'll put something comfortable to ride on his bike. The first time his hands and arms fall asleep while he's riding....they'll be gone" -- amen to that...guess you'd look cool puttin' around the campground, but ride it any distance? Not me... Least you didn't have to make it black. Great execution on the seat, tho...you guys and your round braids are making my head hurt. That's gotta be the way to go to soften that seam though. Maybe if I ever get the double loop down I'll give it a try... Really like the color, too. --Phil

Well done, beez. I like the simplicity of the design, the dye-job, and especially the lacing...wish I could do near as well. I've got a set just like that I wanna do for my Springer before the snow melts. I remember you and David (?) did tutorials a while back so I'll see if they're still around. Thanks for convincing me its time to get off my butt and just do it. --Phil

garment patterns and clothes making
Gray replied to leatheroo's topic in Clothing, Jackets, Vests and Chaps
...and here I was all set to propose...dang! Nice work tho...you should do some more garments...seems like it would be a natural extension of your wonderful masks. I love to see the different things people are doing on this board. --Phil -
Great job, Beez, as usual. Proves the adage less is more. What do you use for that texture? --Phil

"...so there may be some discrepancies between what I remember, what I saw and how others remember it..."...haw! amen, bruddah...if you remember it, you weren't there.... --Phil
