Yes, you can. My advice: focus on construction first. Then move on to decoration. In other words, learn how to cut leather, and then teach yourself the ways that two pieces of leather can be joined together, by hand or machine. You might check out the Al Stohlman books - ignoring everything that deals with tooling (which is decoration) and concentrating on all the things about cutting and stitching.

Two scenarios: 1) gun falls out of a holster 2) rider falls out of a saddle In the first, the holster is automatically suspect in a way that the saddle is not in the second. Two more scenarios: 1) gun falls out of a holster and injures someone 2) man pulls a knife out of a sheath and injures someone. Again, in the first, the holster is automatically suspect in a way that the sheath is not in the second. It isn't anti-gun or fear mongering to say if a gun falls out of a holster you made, there might be consequences for you, and therefore you had better prepare for that possibility. The accident might be entirely the fault of the gun owner - but chances are very good he's going to claim he used it exactly as instructed/intended. And yes, the gun manufacturer has deeper pockets. But: 1) there is nothing to stop the lawyers from suing both the holster make and the gun manufacturer; 2) the gun manufacturer has an easier time making the "misuse" defense: guns aren't supposed to be dropped; and 3) the gun manufacturer is going to use its deeper pockets to try to pin the blame on the little guy - the holster maker. By all means, go out and get advice. But don't consult a lawyer because he is a gun enthusiast: consult a lawyer that knows about torts. You want good advice, not ideologically-motived advice given out for free.

If someone is injured or killed there is almost always someone else who will see if there is some entity that can be blamed for it and therefore have cash extracted from them. I would say if a gun falls out of a holster you made and discharges you can guarantee that you'll get some legal probing to see if you are worth suing. Your best defense is probably your ACCOUNTANT. Make sure that you are incorporated, that you run all your business through the corporation, and that you observe all of the formalities of the corporation, no matter how silly or antiquated they seem. Respect and maintain the corporate veil, so that no lawyer can pierce it in order to get at your personal assets.

Have you put it to use yet? What do you think of it?

I'm trying to spot the difference between the Techsew 2700 and 2750. Is it that the 2750 has a longer maximum stitch length (9mm vs. 5mm for the 2700) and a larger bobbin?

Can This Kind Of Gusset Be Done Only By Hand?
SantaFeMarie replied to SantaFeMarie's topic in How Do I Do That?
Art, did you mean no, yes, no? TinkerTailor, does it require a certain kind of foot? -
Can a bag construction such as this be done only by hand, or is it possible to machine stitch that gusset into place? If so, does it require a cylinder arm?

Best Way To Transfer Pattern For Decorative Stitching?
SantaFeMarie posted a topic in Sewing Leather
I want to try a bit of purely decorative machine stitching. What is the best way to transfer the pattern? Obviously, I want lines I can see and follow; but I also want to be able to remove any trace of them that isn't obliterated by the stitching itself. -

What would some examples of good choices for light dutry stitchers for a leather shop be?

I'm designing some pieces that incorporate loomed beadwork strips into hat bands and belts. What is the best method for attaching the beadwork? I found a YouTube video that advocated using a sewing machine to make a hole pattern in the leather, then handstitching the beadwork strips using a whip stitch - the needle going into the holes made by the machine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkqwROOr8bg I'm OK with that, but I thought I'd see if the hive mind could do better!

Cuttin' Leather With A Bandsaw
SantaFeMarie replied to snubbyfan's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
How do you guide the leather through the bandsaw without stretching or otherwise distorting it? -
Back when all this started the owner of the machine said it worked fine when he got it. I think it is unreasonable to buy a used machine in order to save money and then assume it is in like new condition.

I believe the Cub is available in a model with a wheel instead of a crank so that it can be run with a treadle. Or that such a machine is coming soon. I share your sentiments: it is OK to have a personal ethos about tools that others may not agree with.

"they were great to deal with" but yet you've already impugned their reputation twice and now you are going for a third. -

I realize that you enjoy venting. However, you said the machine worked great when you got it. -
Have you tried uploading to Photobucket, then using the Image button in the second row of the menu bar and then pasting the direct link into that box?

Will those holes close up a bit over time?

I don't think you should be putting words in their mouths. -
If you are not in a hurry, set up a saved search on Ebay and you will get an email when what you want is listed. Everything Singer-related turns up there eventually.

I'm Going To Scrap My Machine Soon

If you seriously are at the end of your tether, can't find anyone to make house calls, but can find someone who will service it at their location, I can think of three options. One, box up the machine and get UPS to pick it up from your home. I think you may have to open an account with them first. And you'll have to make a pretty good estimate of the weight as well before arranging the pick-up. Two, see if there is a Canadian version of Uship. If so, you maybe able to find someone who will come to your home and pick-up the machine and get it to the repair shop. They may even be able to box it or blanket-wrap it for you. And I think you can arrange to get insurance as well. Three, Craig's List>Services>Labor/Move. My local list always has listings from men with trucks who would love to haul things for a bit of beer money. Totally uninsured, of course.
