  3. OK did they say the hide takes 12 months to become a finished piece of leather, was this Andrews tannery? A side must be worth 1000 dollars, bridle leather can't take this long does it?

  11. I have seen skins on both but there was a gentleman that tanned the skins himself and was a way of financially supporting himself he may a retire vetran

  13. If you wait for the Tandy sale on the 20 and 24 sets they were about 50 or so dollars a set, worth their weight in gold I have the same press got it from weavers

Heres my 1.5 cents I have 4 different types of "english" bridle 1 being from Sedgwick in England and yup thats the best one on my opinion for a 10oz piece of leather or in and around there WandC and herman tie a distant second but please dont anyone get excited this is just my opinion lol!!!Most times price is a BIGGG factor when I buy a hide thats all folks!!

Just my opinion,, if you let glue dry well most things, or in my case nothing moves!!!I like using double sided tape too but items gets "shifty" glue takes longer and is messier but works better if dried the needle doesnt stick and bring up the material just my 2 cents, hold on we got rid of our pennies up here lol!

Ok guys this is what I was after, Eric you just made up my mind not to get this type of machine I was looking to get something to use for thinner leather a machine that i can put a roller foot on, just for decorative stitching do you recomend any pariticular machine?Thanks for everyones input just a great bunch of folks here!

  23. Whats an acceptable leather thickness of leather for guitar straps, not tooling or veg tan, is 4-5 oz seems nice?I was thinking a heavy chap leather, havnt made one yet was trying to figure out thickness probably going to be lined with thin material or sheepskin?

I know that the ddls are not for leather sewing but i need a straight stich machine for general sewing I found a couple localy ones a DDL 5550 and the other is a DDL 5530 they seem the same any body know whats the difference?There are some other DDL's that have a N at the end is this the safety clutch?Juki has so many subclasses it seems very confusing, can any body shine some light?thanks
