  1. Very well done, just love the wolf.
  2. This means if she is using roadkill she has to be perched by the side of the road like the grim reaper. It says her custom coats start at $1000. So how many roadkill beavers does she need for a coat....LOTS. I have seen even roadkill deer and although there is more to salvage there you have to skin them right now, get that skin salted and tanned. With fur it still should be kept cold somehow until that tanning process is done. I have seen muskrats that have been dead not even a day and this is not noted to be a excessively warm climate. And it if you were caught by the RCMP/fish and wildlife you could guarantee a huge fine. As this woman is in the US they have different rules in different states. I personally go to yard sales and buy old fur coats to remake into other things. The reason is that poor animal(s) lost their lives for it so I won't let it go to the garbage.
  3. I have gotten HO from Tandy, advantage is I pick my own out. I just love the stuff, it cuts like butter. I think one of two things on the hide you got was maybe it wasn't HO or you got a bad lot.
  4. I was concerned you may not be a real leatherworker...LOL. I had people walk into my workroom and say "How do you find anything?" The thing is no matter what hurricane or tornado comes through, as long as it is us we know where our stuff is. I haven't got mine set up in this new place yet, but soon. I plan to use a lot of those Command TM strip to hang my shears etc.
  5. That's not a shop, it is all neat and tidy. It is not a fire hazard, this is an imaginary shop.
  6. Gergo, That is a wonderful bag and so professionally done. It is beyond gorgeous. I hope you have a website, if not set it up and you can make good money selling those.
  7. Those are very brilliantly made boots. Love them.
  8. Congratulations Chris to you and your wife. In three months it will be time to hand him a mallet.
  9. Of course, it wouldn't be a challenge if it didn't.
  10. Very adorable and time consuming with a terrific result.
  11. Welcome to the website Dietmar, I was a few years younger than you when I started in leather working. You will find lots of great information here and it is nice to see that another generation will carry on this fine art form and craftsmanship.
  12. I am going to try to give this a shot in spite of all the stuff I need to get done for comicon.
  13. Actually I was wrong it does work.
  14. He is correct it doesn't work. Just takes you to a website page of a very gorgeous knife.

  19. I like the idea of slaughter free. But as long as people eat meat we will have slaughter hides. I have many vegan friends, it doesn't matter if it is slaughter free or not, they will not buy it. I find this is just a little gimmicky but each to their own. As for free range chickens, that is the way they were when I was growing up. However antibiotics and steroids replaced the better taste of free-range chickens. I work in leather of all types. I love leather. The smell, the feel of it. I do not advocate the murder of animals. I do not eat red meat and if you are going to kill a cow, pig, deer, elk or moose. I believe you need to use or find a use for everything or give what you don't use to someone who does. I know that cows are slaughtered for their meat but there is a use for every part. I do not subscribe to big game trophy hunters that, go out and hunt for just the hide or the head, you better use the whole animal. If you hunt deer, moose, elk then don't throw the hide out, give it to someone who uses it. I used to have friends who were hunters. They boiled the hooves for the dogs, ate the meat, called me to get the hides and made buttons and crib boards out of the horns. Now, I will stand down from my soap box.
  20. I love the smell of leather. I love the smell of cattle and horses. I don't love the smell of; glue, paint or lacquer.
  21. I learned that I should always have my hair up when gluing something. Because it ends up a hair on piece and not cowhide.
  22. Thanks for the advice on the light box. That choker and there were counter parts, a black like it and some others were all done before my cobra 4. I will have to do more on the cobra.
