As I mentioned, duribiity is on a par with Delrin so I would guess many hundreds of impressions or more. What I meant by less was the price. These test samples were <$5 and went straight on the Arbor press with no backing. The maker and I will be offering these for sale at a very reasonable price once we have done some final testing and improvements. Cya! Bob

Attached is a test of the first batch of stamps, We still have some fine tuning to do on the small stamps and these were significantly less than I had anticipated. This is exactly what I was looking for and I will also be ordering some graphic stamps as well to test the process. Turn-around is overnight, durability on a par with Delrin. I was testing how the stamps would hold up under a full vingegaroon dip and neutralization Cya! Bob

If you speak to them again mention Volker from Bremen. They may know of customers with a leather machine sitting in a corner? BTW I have a beautiful gunsling made for me when I was IN CT. I used it as a banjo strap. It is stamped City Guns but I don't know who actually made it. \So here's another thought. Ask the folks at Paul Mueller (Thats the name!) now Cape Sewing, to recommend a sewing machine mechanic and then contact Bob at Toledo and see if he can drop ship a Cowboy 3200 to Cape Town. As long as you have a mechanic that can set it up, your in business. Bring in a few and go into business. Cya! Bob

One of my oldest friends used to work for the Adler distributor in CT. They sold machines for the shoe industry in SA, now all moved to China.I don't remember the company name but they were in Woodstock. You may ask and see if they know of any used machines sitting around somewhere. The name Meuller comes to mind. Cya! Bob

My spices are from CT. I use a small plastic rubbish bin, a computer fan and a light bulb at the bottom. The wire is a sensor from a thermometer. I keep it at 26C. Total investment, $20 and 1 hour! Do not hesitate to ask if I can help you get any tools or materials from the States. Totseins! Bob

Ok, I don't get it??!! I use my 1 ton daily but have not had to modify it. I use the Tandy ram's foot for pressing 3D stamps and it works like a champ! I have a small piece of granite cut 8" x 12" and have a piece of aluminum stock held on by small C clamps as a guide. I did JB Weld this ramsfoot onto the end of the press but found it wasn't useful installed permanently. Cya! Bob

I just received my first orders of drum dyed veg tan leather. Any suggestions on casing for stamping and possibly carving. I usually wet the leather and then wait until it almost returns to normal color, but black doesn't change at all when wet?? I suppose I could case over night but I am trying to speed up production using drum dyed. Thanks! Bob

I use distilled water. Bottled water may be reverse osmosis (ok) or spring water( with minerals in or added) which may build up in the leather. Cya! Bob

I would suggest "British Quality" which says it all. The Euro Font is not indicative of leather goods unless it's stylish fashion accessories. If so, I would use the euro font but bold it so it will read as a small stamp. Cya! Bob

I make strops from Home Depot paint stirrers, both the large and the small. I glue a piece of veg tan on either side then a light sanding on the belt sander and green on one side and white on the other. The drill a hole to hang it and I'm done. If the leather gets heavly beat up or soiled I sand off the top layer and re-apply rouge and back in business. Minutes of work involved and the price of scrap leather and paint paddles (free) . Cya! Yup. I was thinking about ordering a letter set from Hong Kong but I would need 2 or 3 as you mentioned. Also it's a fixed space but variable names so font size will change with every name. My solution involves very inexpensive custom made stamps. I hope to start testing today. If it works it will cost a fraction of laser engraved stamps. Cya! Bob

How does the chrome tanned do in water? These traps will be used in mostly fresh and possibly brackish water. From my research it does seem that Latigo will accept gluing if both surfaces are roughed up a bit. Cya! Bob

I have a pending job to make a number of items with various names. The space available is 1 1/2" and I'll need a dozen or so different names. It won't be cost effective to do individual letters and too expensive to have 12 stamps made at $40+ Any suggestions? The ideal would be to go from a pdf to a plate somehow. Thanks! Bob

Interesting idea about cutting a "circular" strap to get a maximum length. These are utility straps to be used in an expedition, so other than some minor skyving at the edges of the koint no need to make it pretty. Will Barge hold on heavily piled leathers? I use veg tanned tooling exclusively at the moment. A 9 oz latigo will have sufficient strength, so no lamination necessary but it's the joins that concern me. Thanks! Bob
