  1. Storm, Electrathon is correct, they are called Gypsies and were very popular in the early 60s. George Hurst reminded me of this information. The soles were premolded and punched with needle sized holes for stitching them to the tops whech were also prepunched. They were made from 10-12 oz skirting. Just keep the post uptodate and someone will have a pattern in their archives. I'll check with some of my resources also. Indy
  2. FYI on the sandals, those are an "old" Tandy kit from the 60s or 70s. They had a molded pre-punched sole and top with a back tab at the heel. You might check out some back issues of the Leather Craftsman magazine. They were promoted heavily in there. George Hurst might be able to give some insight on it. Indy
  3. Antipaladin, Check out the books/patterns and a video by Jim Simmons. The book for construction techniques is YeeHaa! The pattern paks and video are available at Hide Crafter. The Will Ghormley patterns are still available at Tandy. All are good when you apply your own skills to them. Happy toolin' Indy
  4. Cindy, Welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here and look forward to some of your work. Anything we can do to help is what were all about. Very few of the folks in this craft are "legends in there own minds". Those have an inflated ego and don't stay around long and live in their own little world. Charlie (Grandpa) will be there guiding your hand always and we'll be here to answer your questions. The only way to correct a mistake is to make it and identify the way to cover or make it work. Happy toolin', Indy
  5. Your welcome. That pattern has become really popular with the pocket knife set. There are a couple of stores in NM near Philmont Scout Ranch that sell as many as I can make during the Summer camping season. Goes good with our Fleur de Leis 1 1/4" concho! If you have any challenges with the assembly I can take some pictures to show the way. Post a picture of what you make with it if you use it. I'd like to see your project. We can always use more good customers and good advertising. Our motto is "If you don't see it-Ask anyway. We'll help you find your answer". Best regards, Indy
  6. Robert, Great job on the Sheridan pattern by Blanchard and i really like the decorative cuts on the inside. That reminds me of the post a couple of months ago by Keith Seidel he sold for $16,400. His was an acorn/oak leaf design and he had the decorative cuts inside. He had said he had about $6000 worth of custom silver on it. What about the edges? Are your going to slick them. That would really finish it off professionally. Keep up the good work. John aka Indy
  7. Looks like Vargas has made it to leather. Nice work! Indy
  8. Josh, That looks really good. Its got a really subtle border and your carving is coming along wonderfully. I'd wear it. Your Dad is going to love it. Keep up the good work. John aka Indy
  9. Jerry, We have screws to attach a concho to the female part of a line 24 snap to a project where a snap closure is needed. Is that what you're looking for? John aka Indy Front-Line Products, LLC <front_line42@yahoo.com>
  10. I am looking for a hardware manufacturer/supplier for Kilt belt hardware in the US or Scotland. We need assorted buckles and the wire for the buckle bale to hook into on the other end of the belt. We appreciate any help. John aka Indy
  11. DJ, I can make you a thistle stamp if you are interested. i have one that we made for some of my Scottish Rite and general Scottish items. Contact me at Frontline products, LLc <front_line42@yahoo.com> or call 817-596-8128. Best regards, John aka Indy
  12. Nice work Johann! I can see Rene's influence. When you see him next tell him hello and Happy Father's Day from John formerly from Hide Crafter and Lonestar. Keep up the good work. Indy
  13. Dok, What models are those examples? Get back with me at <front_line42@yahoo.com>. I can't upload the file with a couple of holster pictures since it is 2.7MB in .pdf and my .jpg won't load. I'll send it by direct email if that this doesn't work. Indy
  14. Hey Doc, Welcome to the forum and glad you're "getting back on the bike". There are a great bunch of craftsmen & women here with a wealth of knowledge and skill. Show us a picture of the firearm(s). Left hand is easy just flip the pattern over and do everything in your right mind. Is it a 4 1/2" barrel or overall length? What size basketweave do you want? I have access to several that will do the job. With guidance and a little practice and you can make any of them work. Let me know how I can help you further. Indy PS-No ADs OK. They hurt and are embarrassing to explain too! Had a policeman here that had an AD when he placed his Taurus .45 auto in the back of is pants and they lovingly (yeah right) call him "crack shot" now. Whew, that hurts just thinking about it!!!!!!!!
  15. I had faith you'd develop a technique. Deadblow is good and a firm grip tight to the project with ONE strike! Small mallet-small die, Large mallet-large die, mobetta. Indy
  16. Tom, You've got the hang of seating/orienting that maker's stamp without a bounced image. The purse/case looks really good! What's the lining that you used? John aka Indy
  17. Welcome to the forum Ryan. I'm John aka Indy. I'm originally from (duh) indianapolis but live in Weatherford, TX just west of Fort Worth. You are between two good guilds and some really great folks in the Calumet and Central Indiana Guilds. Central Indiana meets in Beech Grove, IN and Edd Lucas 317-849-8847 in New Palestine and Brazil, IN is a great contact. Calumet meets in Highland, IN and their contact is Beth Volpe 219-937-1556. Letme know when you need help and I'll do my best. indy
  18. Russ,If it doesn't show patent pending, copyrite, trademark™ and you bought it it's yours to do with what you want. Borrow some ones design with their permission or use the one in the kit and sell it, give it, trade it etc. Don't be paranoid about being sued. We all stand on the shoulders of those that came before us, Stohlman, Baird, Giehl, Hurst, Gomer, King, Geer, Lair, Linnell etc., etc., etc. These folks gave to us so we can learn, practice and give to others in the future. The patterns are for you to gain experience and then you can create your own designs and patterns. (Example) It's not against the law to write and forge a check using someone else's name and account number BUT it is against the law to utter that instrument for personal profit! Sounds contradictory but it's the law as I enforced it! I look forward to seeing some of your creativity. Indy Good answer Dave. Indy

  20. Hey fremsn, WELCOME! What Branch are you in? Got a son that will be deploying with NSW 7 on this 2nd go 'round. Glad you have an interest in leathercraft and we look forward to helping you. You will find some amazing talent in many different disciplines. You'll learn alot hanging out with this gang! Does your name, "fremsn", mean what I think it means or something entirely different? Indy
  21. Marlon, I really like the pattern and design flow. I see an absence of leaf liner, flower center with seeds, mule foot and bargrounder. Are you finished with the Sheridan style or is this a phase I? The leaves look really good but need more lifting to give depth. Sorry I missed coming over this weekend. My attention got diverted to other tasks. I'll give you a call Wed. and we'll see how our schedules look. John
  22. Tom, Simple but elegant. I'd love to see your cutting pattern if you could post it. John aka Indy
  23. Ooooops!......I got carried away. Sorry
