Tooled Snake Belt
Jordan replied to Casey Jordan's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Great work, but as I have a supreme aversion to snakes I would not go near it with a 10 foot pole! Where's a shotgun when you need one! -
Bolts, washers and rubber gasket thingys,
Jordan replied to LAPat's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Not sure if this helps but here goes. However you put it together the object would be to isolate the motor from the table to minimize any vibration traveling through both. So if the vibes are strong switch things up and see if the vibration is reduced. Also the nuts should contact the washers not the rubber directly. -
If you have an edger you can wet the leather and bend it over the edge of a table at the fold line the use the edger to remove about half the thickness of the leather along the fold line. Then it should fold over pretty flat.

See things are looking up already!. I feel for you, as I and my wife have gone through alot of financial and medical problems for what seems like forever. But we are still here and still working at it. Do not sell your tools, use them. Take or make happy moments whenever you can. I have found strength to carry on through working with leather(a little olive oil makes a beautiful finish) it really is a fantastic all around therapy. And the satisfaction of making a useful item for someone is priceless. I don't know if you belive in a higher power but I have also gained a hard to explain inner peace by renewing my relationship with Jesus. Hang in there, God bless you and yours and by all means have fun working with leather.

Silver knight concho for a holster
Jordan replied to RMB Custom Leather's topic in Hardware and Accessories
Looks like a custom made piece to me. You would probably need to contact a silversmith or metalworker of some kind. I have not seen anything like it available in any quantity for purchase. -
I think they have restrictions on selling animals and family members!

Well said, I think off topic is a good thing. Anywhere people gather the needs to be a vent. People who don't like to read such stuff don't have to. But for those who do it helps mentally and physically to express your thoughts once in awhile. I do agree that other areas of the forum have had an overflow lately(guilty)of this self expression and we should all make an effort to keep it in the off topic area for those that are perturbed by it.

Thanks, I do not think I would ever be able to own that Austin Healy but it has always been my dream car ever since my parents had a 3000 model back when I was in grade school.

You could rent some from smartflix web site.

Here is mine, bought new in 1990. Pretty reliable, two clutches, alternator, idler pulley, some batteries, brakes a few times and some oil leak fixes. Needs some little stuff like door lock fix and window riser mechanism etc. Inline slant six Ford F250 5spd manual w/overdrive. A nice companion would be this Austin Healy

I meant no offense I just posted the quote to show there are a variety of way that people judge machine vs hand work. The opposite is also true of machine work it can be terrible too if not done with care. As I said, if people do not buy a piece for the asking price they really did not want it. Also after buying 4 or 5 items for less that end up falling apart they will buy a quality piece if they want it.

"Don't be seduced into thinking that sloppy work is the hallmark of handmade pieces. Handcutting, stitching and basket stamping are not necessarily marks of top quality pieces unless they are done in a top quality manner." From J. Bianchi Blue Steel and Gunleather page 188 on the topic of How to judge handcraft quality. Charge a fair price that the market will bear and do not compromise on the quality of your work. If they don't buy it they did not want it.

My latest Holster/Belt Combo Project
Jordan replied to Jordan's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Here is my progress today, after fixing the fridge, I worked on the 3 by 45" belt. about 38" between the buckle and the center hole of the billet. Still have to work on the keeper and the bullet loop parts but thought I would post a pic for any that are following the process. Stamp spacing got a little off and I should have only done a single crease on the holster, but so far I think it is going well. Getting a little ahead of myself but I am contemplating boiling down some coffee and giving that a try for a finish. -
I have a question along the same vein, In countries that have, according to the nature shows, wide open areas overflowing with very dangerous animals apparently out to terrorize and eat everthing in sight, what does the law abiding citizen protect themselves with when the government either outlaws private gun ownership, or makes it so problematic and expensive to own one? I mean not everyone can wrestle a croc or charm a viper every time they need to go to the store. (I am sure by watching those shows one gets the impression that you need to dodge killer animals with every step you take outside. )

Sandwich the Masonite with a plain leather backing and put them in the back window of one of those Pickumups posted elswhere. Very nice work it would have taken me twice as long at half as good.

Need "Blue Guns" for Holster making
Jordan replied to ABC3's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Some models of blue guns are available in black too. -
That pretty much it. Green new unread Black arrow you contributed a post, white has been read and blinking I think means it is currently a popular topic.

Open carry is legal in Utah but most of the public and more than a few law enforcement officers are not that familiar with the law and that has on occasion caused some confusion. I do not have a permit yet but am going to get one when I have the money. Being from SoCal originally, I am still amazed that the closer to hunting season it gets the more my neighborhood transforms into an armed camp. Stats I read recently were that 1 in 5 in public are armed in Utah. Reminds me of another stat that is a bit more of a concern to me, 1 in 5 drivers at any time day or night, on the freeway are impaired by drugs or alcohol.

My latest Holster/Belt Combo Project
Jordan replied to Jordan's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Mr. Ghormleys' western patterns are pretty much offered by any company that sells leather stuff. Very prolific distribution it seems. Also he has them and some real nice buckles on his web site so you can order direct if you choose. As far as I can tell his stuff is real well thought out and researched. Excellent. Not going to get much done today on the holster as the fridge decided to break last night. Some bureaucrat must have thought I could see the light at the end of the tunnel and pressed the mess his life up button instead of the easy button. -

Tandy leather. It is where I get all my stuff mainly because it is close as I don't venture much past my front door these days. -
I don't think it is considered advertising in the full meaning of the word. You will find the members here a very friendly bunch and willing to share alot of information. I would not post your email address in a reply or post as there are alot of bums on the internet that troll forums for them to send out spam. There is an marketplace section if you would like to post info about your business. Of course a moderator can explain all this stuff much better than me. Welcome and enjoy your foray into leathermania.
