Looking for feed back and advice
Jordan replied to CedarCreek's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks pretty nice to me. 2 questions tho, is it the photo or is that chrome tanned leather? and is one holster a crossdraw or are my eyes playing tricks? -
Just for general info I was perusing Craigs list and saw an ad from Paige(sp?) Arizona for a variety of leather working equipment from a retiring shoe repair shop owner. No affiliation just info.

Bullet loop tutorial of sorts
Jordan replied to jbird's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I did one the badger way but left off the rivets, just sewed the ends of the strap that end up on the inside of the belt then covered with a liner. the leather going through the same slot twice around the cartridge, holds everything in place by friction. Good job Josh & Badger, shows to go ya there is more than one way to skin a cat. -
Advice for first solo seat sale
Jordan replied to KliffsKustomHouse's topic in Motorcycles and Biker Gear
Really a nice job on that seat. It has been awhile but visiting motorcycle builders sites has prices ranging from 300 to 600 dollars for custom solo seats. They are not cheap thats for sure. The seat makers here would probably give you a better pricing idea than I could. -
How many leatherworkers are also musicians?
Jordan replied to UKRay's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
I'm in the same or lesser league with you UK. I play my gibson really poorly and amazing grace on the harmonica till the puppies howl. Someday I will play some campfire songs and some blues that are at least recognizable. -
If you are using microsoft Can't suggest anything, If you use linux and firefox you can download a program called No Squint works well and is adjustable.

Personally I would not do it, from reading your post my little voice says there will be no pleasing this gentleman. But it sounds like you are intrigued by the challenge. When I do a cover I get the general items like name, cross, etc. from the person but I let them know from that point on my artistic muse takes over and they will get what it turns out to be. No complaints so far for the 7 bible covers I have done except 1 which the measurements they gave me were wrong. I let them know I would redo it if they let me have the bible for a day or two. Lazer lettering may be a way to get all the verses on it. I think there is someone on the board that does that kind of work.

Von Dutch a guy who was very involved in auto and motorcycle artwork like pin stripping and such. 50's-60's era I think. Very famous in Hot Rod circles.

After reading more comments, I change my vote from maybe to no we don't need it. Came to this conclusion due to the consensus that this is a leather working site not a forum for pushing personal views, being mean, vindictive or being a S@#! towards kindred spirits.

Whatever you decide J. I suggest a spot like the adult section with the understanding that if it gets out of control/wicked bad it will be stopped and rules of engagement will be adopted for the entire forum such as no politics, religion or ? etc. (I would not want to be the one to make the decision as to what is appropriate topic matter). I think most here are responsible adult types and I have a lot of respect for everyone here. While this is a/the Leatherworker.net site we are all humans and occasionally need to vent so I see no harm in giving a restricted topic a try. We have a poster on our wall Titled "All you really need to know to get along with others is what you learned in Kindergarten. I especially liked the one about taking an afternoon nap everyday!

Thanks. Got to set some goals and incorporate some dreams while I'm at it. Figure I got a good 25 years left and might as well live where it's warm, grow some grapes and rescue some puppies.

My mom has offered her cabin in Idyllwilde (sp) inbetween the Hemet and Palm Springs/Banning area until we get on our feet again. Then if everything works right, we will be getting a few acres and build a house in the Sonoita/Elgin area southeast of Tucson.. Already working on the balsa model and blueprints, it is based on a Katrina Cottage plan offered by Lowes Hardware. And it looks like I will end up doing most of the labor to save money.

Times are tough, have been before, will be again. They are after all, politicians and/or talking heads. A person can do only what they can to protect themselves and their families during times such as these. As far as the rant....Good for You! the more people that get P.O'd the better the chance of change. And contrary to what they tell you, One person can make a difference no matter how small it might be. This country is so hellbent on immediate gratification it is destined to repeat the errors of the past. The riche got theirs, you think gates really cares that he lost some pocket change! his accountants will make that up and more from the loopholes put there by ...guess who!, and now everyone else is left holding the bag and scrambling to make ends meet until better times arrive. As far as the Queen, I believe she is a very nice lady and probably a pretty good monarch compared to most others. Don't know why she would need an Ipod or whatever. She loves those dogs, so shes ok in my book. Maybe one of the collar makers around here could whip up a few and send them off.

It was made by a member here, Tina I think, there may be a thread on this forum about how she did it.

Thanks all for the positive comments. For sure things were alot worse on the financial and health fronts 6 months ago, we were in a real deep hole with no apparent way home. The situation around here has eased somewhat for which I give all credit to God. By his grace and our faith the wife and I will do our best to turn rotten apples into sweet cider. I am sure that I will be signing into the forum on a fairly regular basis until things start moving. And restart the leather work once settled in So Cal. Thank goodness for family and Thanks again for all the wonderful support.

The more I put in boxes the louder George Carlins voice gets about having way to much STUFF!. Australia according to the travel shows has way too many animals that would make it their mission to kill me. Kinda like the mosquitoes around here!

Well it finally arrived, the money tree has died and we can't continue to rob peter to pay paul. The for sale sign goes up tomorrow. According to our agent we have a pretty good chance of selling. And the grand adventure to return to California then on to Arizona when the finances allow it begins. I have no idea where we got all this junk from! After 14 years of pakratting I am finding stuff while boxing things up that I didn't even know we had. How many shoes does a person really need. I seem to have aquired enough books to open a dang library! I have not even gotten to the storage room in the basement, oh boy thats going to be fun. Hope deseret industries thrift store is ready for the deluge. We, while in dire straights, are trying to keep a good outlook by convincing ourselves it is another grand adventure! Except for the nagging financial issues that is what it is. Here's to hoping for a quick sale and a minimal amount of stress.

I hand sewed them after punching the holes with my neels5 without thread.

In reading Bianchi's book most horseback riders holsters in the olden days were worn crossdraw on a cartridge belt. Stolhmans book on holstermaking has a pattern for the parts to a shoulder rig, I think the photo is of Jack Webb from the TV show Dragnet "Up against the wall you hippie" LOL. From what I gather shoulder rigs are a very difficult item to fit properly and most comments I have heard and read from users has not been real positive. Good luck with the project I am sure you will do a fine rendition. A retention method of some kind makes alot of sense as I remember my one and only horseback experience was one of being bounced all over he#@ and back. I'll take a motorbike over a horse everytime.

The first pair are on display at the local Tandy store and the owner uses them in his travels to scout troops and such. The other pair have been waiting for summer, dang it snowed again today.! The third pair I sold this past summer, no calls so I guess they are holding up. The only irritation has been the heel strap/keeper, it needs to be wider as they tend to not ride right kind of twist a bit. Somehow the last post ended up in the wrong thread, anyway a video exists on a site called Metacafe I would post a link but my computer is not being very cooperative today.

I used tandy lace on my watchband, mexican weave is what the book called it. It is real comfortable.

I think it is two guys in some lab somewhere named Mike and Ron. They came up with some ridiculously small measurement and named it after themselves to cornfuse everyone!

If I remember right there was/is a video of someone making tyre sandals on utube.A legend in my own mind me thinks.
-
I posted a bunch of pics somewhere for the sandals I made. From paper pattern through finished pair. Tandy sells a ebook on sandal making, have not purchased it, but it looks like it was originally available in the early seventies as far as style goes. I did sell 1 pair last summer for $75.00. and I am waiting for the warm weather to start wearing the other pair I made. Just have to find a pair of bermuda chorts and a hawiian shirt to match

Burnished edges are usually the rounding over, compression of the leather edge and sealing it with the application of a liquid like H20 or gum trag etc, apply pressure and brisk friction with a piece of burlap, wood or whatever material works for you here is a couple of pics of an unfinished and finished edge.
