    Tools for tooling

Ball end stylus tools of varying sizes and water cased leather should do the trick, if I am understanding your process and question
  2. I found a site of a silversmith by the name of Doug Mangus out of New Mexico and I think the Skull lovers on this forum will get a kick out of his skull series of belt buckles if the price don't kick you first! http://www.douglasmagnus.com/ I hope this address is correct.
  3. The tandy by me carries black, I think there is three sizes, I bought the midsize, and use a small machinist vice to hold the pieces if I need to use a small file on them to shorten them for thinner applications. The metal is quite soft so filing is pretty quick and as long as I keep the angles true there is no adverse effects when scewing them together.
  4. Tandy for the screws and a hardware/homecenter for the washers

    Hello

Welcome, If becoming addicted to a very satisfying hobby/business/whatever, this is the place to learn all about it. In my humble opinion this forum is home to some of the best leathernuts in the world. Good people and great artisans.
  6. I have used Chicago screws with a fairly thick soft rubber washer between the layers of leather. There are probably screws out there that are designed for tension use but my rendition seems to work alright.
  7. I made this one awhile back for my bersa and am working on a double magazine pouch for the opposite side. I used the holster making book and paper patterns mentioned earlier.
  8. The talking heads think that most Americans are morons and they can't comprehend anything so they do whatever they want. It's like the guy whose job it is to press the button that screws up your life just when you think you see the light at the end of the tunnel, now they have a guy that presses the make money appear out of thin air button so the rich stay rich. Now they want to track people with black helicopters for buying an adult beverage in utah. Hah hows that for the saying that paranoia strikes deep in the heart of man! They already put chips in cows pretty soon the mark of the beast will be on everyone forehead. Seriously though something is very wrong or some accountants are really in denial when everything is tanking but visa and mastercard are showing a profit! Bailout bad, reduced taxes good I don't know. What I do know is I can not pay all of my bills and the financial whizzes will not bail me out of anything! Seems to me the goverment is making the same errors that contributed to the great depression throwing made up money and a bunch of greedy sob's who need to suffer the consequences for thier actions. Who really needs corporations that are supposedly to big or to important to fail. The shiek that holds a controlling intrest in Citi should have to sell a couple of his yatchs like everyone else! But wait..... they are going to buy a new jet and rename yankee stadium to the tune of 440 million taxpayer dollars? OH Well, enough of my jibberish I better get back to some agressive leather pounding.
  9. Beautiful renditions. DL drivers license I think. Looks like a tin of skoal would fit quite nicely.
  10. I only watch it for the football if the Vikings are playing, otherwise it is only for the commercials.
  11. That's the one I have and at that price is a good deal. You should get lots of use out of it while waiting for an osborne to come along. Sharp tubes are a must. The other two they offer are not made very well, Too flimsy and have no heft to them.
  12. Welcome and do not fret the language thing, pictures speak volumes and as you have probably noticed WE ALL LOVE PHOTOS! The bag you posted elsewhere is awesome! The stitching is superb.
  13. Got my sights set on another 60's BMW to restore. I had so much fun with the first R69s I am going to do it again, but I think I will keep it rather than sell it. Man I miss that bike. Maybe one of your seats is destined for the next one!
  14. Finally figured out that it is the placement that makes the birds stand out more(on top rather than more incorporated in the other photo) in my minds eye. I do enjoy your seats and have seen many examples of the older style tatts. SPS being the customer gets what they want and my disney comment really doesn't amount to a hill'o'beans as I don't foresee ever being able to afford one of thier masterful creations. LOL
  15. That one is pretty cool and looks well constructed. Does the jaw rotate on the base with that pin?
  16. Welcome and salutations. This forum is a treasure trove of information and provides excellent access to some of the best leather artisans in the world. It will take some time but read everything, ask lots of questions and practice, practice, and practice some more. You will shortly see vast improvements in your skills. Posting photos of your work will get lots of helpful comments which in turn will make you even better.
  17. I like all your seats, but even though I voted yes, I think the birds look a little to disney-ish for a motorcycle seat.
  18. MLK said something about hoping someday his kids would be judged by their character, integrity and actions, or something like that. I was brought up to take people on pretty much the same principles. Which brings me to the conclusion that the man needs to be given the time to prove that he will walk the walk as well as talk the talk. He has got a real rough row to hoe so we will see. Also, He is an excellent orator, has alot of great ideas and seems to have the backbone to get stuff done so again we shall see, he is after all still a politician. The one thing that bugs me is the media barrage about his race. Seems they can't complete a sentence without stating the obvious! or is it, seems to me by the photos of his family he is, as he put it "a mutt", like a vast majority of Americans are. This country is after all a melting pot of all the worlds peoples. While his election is historic, the media should give it a rest! Besides it looks like voters pretty much indicated it is a non issue.
  19. How are they going to prevent the poison from killing everything? including the birdies. Poison is poison, and I don't think non target animals will be able to know not to eat it too.
  20. That is a real nice job. Looks comfortable, stable and has a good color.
  21. I would use 4x4's for the legs, plenty of bracing, as large as you can deal with, higher than normal to minimize bending over, real good overhead lights. an a double layer of at least 1/2 " for the top so you can flip them when they get messed up, essentially 4 bench tops. I posted a pdf bench plan awhile back that seemed pretty easy to build and is strong enough for woodworking. Got it from Fine Woodworking web site. But a bench is really all about personal preference and individual work habits.
  22. Anythings possible I guess. Personally I think it was operator error. TV news did not have the detail of the written article. I am all for personal carry but some people just plain don't get it and should not be allowed the responsibility. Kind of a funny story but still a very serious topic.
  23. Last night's news, A toilet in a fast food joint was destroyed! Appears a gentleman utilizing a conceal carry holster was going about his business and while hitching his drawers the weapon lost it's grip, hit the floor and blew up the vitreous china receptacle. A lady in the next room had to be seen for chest pain by the paramedics but otherwise everyone escaped unscathed. No mention of weapon type or holster mfg. but I would imagine someone is in the market for a new holster and a repeat of the firearms safety classes.
