My new shop space once it is done will be 10x10 with rubber tiled floor, drywalled and insulated, a 3x6 workbench, a sewing machine under the window, floor to ceiling storage shelves, computer, stereo, fax, fridge and phone, a clicker, a moulding press lots of lights various benchtop tools, a couple of stools, an airbrush and finishing hood and maybe me if I don't gain anymore weight..... well a feller can dream right?

This is a photo of a 1967 R69S that I restored last year I needed something to keep the mud and road junk off the front of the engine so,.. leather to the rescue! stamped some skulls and letters on it and walah instant custom mudflap also you can see my first attempt at a seat refoamed and recovered the passenger seat with kid skin.

Thats ok don't break anything the last thing I need is a bunch of leather workers ticked off at me. I didn't realize the whole menubar had to be moved I thought each one of the items was seperate. I can live with the way it is!

How about puting the "Todays hot topics" menu item at the top of the page instead of the bottom it is awkward to have to scroll down the entire page to get to it.. thanks Jordan

So I am looking at $777.00 total? If this is right I guess I need to find another $102.00. How do you want payment? Personal check, money order, bank check etc? Is it possible that I send you the 600.00 then have UPS deliver it COD for the additional 177.00 in shipping costs I don't know if they do that, or do I send you the intire amount and hope UPS gets it here without damage. As you probably guessed I have not dealt with this stuff before. I have been out of the cross country trucking business for about ten years, did it for three years and almost starved to death. Don't believe all the hype about loads of money to be made in trucking it is Not True!

cool, I am really hoping that shipping is not going to cost an arm and a leg, If I was still able to drive a semi I would pick it up myself and visit relatives in jersey to boot I did have a question for you, I noted in some other posts that this type of machine kind of messes up the bottom layer when sewing 2 pieces of leather together is it that bad? or can the leather be smoothed out easily.

wow that is an expensive tool that does look relatively simple. Tool setup and design probably took many more hours than actually making it. I think 100 to a school is pretty fair, as it is all about learning by the students, besides I think most students in machine shop would jump at the chance to make a useful item, instead of something that teaches the skills but is not really that useful in the real world. hope this made sense....kinda ramble on sometimes.

so how bout it, any others out there willing to share their ideas for marketing, research, pro formas etcetera? It's very helpful for those of us that are struggling to write a plan to get a fresh outlook on the business end of things, without having to pay a professional business plan writer that probably has no idea what we are trying to do. LOL

Ed, I sent you an email with my contact info. Can you post some photos of the machine and the items that come with it so I can get a better idea of what I would be getting? Are there any tools, manual accessories, bench etc. I am really hoping I can add it to my shop soon. thanks Jordan

I don't know if this will work but I am trying to post a .pdf file of my business plan and I would appreciate any feedback from you guys as to format, am I on the right track ideas etc. all I ask is that if anyone wants to copy it for thier own use that they not use it verbatim, you know change some words around and such I have only done the first couple of pages the rest is a template I downloaded for msword. Thanks..Jordan

Ok, I will let you know for sure by tomorrow evening, maybe you could send me an email MtPockets54@msn.com with some details such as payment method, shipping cost to Clinton Utah 84015 It looks like this machine is exactly what I need to get started
-
Ed, do you still have the machine? If so it may take me a couple of days to arrainge my finances but if I can swing it I am interested. thanks....Jordan

thanks guys, I will continue to watch for one I can use. It will probably be awhile as I am in the process of finishing a 100 sq ft area in my basement, insulation, electrical, drywall and all the little things that need to be planned out for a workshop that is useable, but my back went on the fritz 3-4 days ago so just sitting up is real difficult right now. Yes I am contemplating the machine offered by esantoro among others, 2600 for a toro 4000, 1500 for a consew at ksl.com and about 4 others from a grand down to 200.00. Information overload is my problem when looking at all the different info the companies put out. it is very helpful to get the straight dope so to speak from this forum.

Is there a formula to figure out how much thread to use on a project?
Jordan replied to Sjm1027's topic in Sewing Leather
I have had pretty good luck by measuring the length (or perimeter) then double it and add 1 more length for insurance, if that makes sense, it does get unwieldly on larger stuff but if you sew fast it becomes managable -
I saw a tool on ebay last year that was the size of a basic stamping tool like a camoflager but the company would lazer cut your actual signature on the business end. I can't find it again and can't remember the company name, has anyone else seen one or know where I can get more information about it?

very good marketing idea steve, I am kicking around the same type of idea when I get up and running, I was thinking along the lines of a small bottle of leather care solution or greased lightning holster treatment (I think thats the name), kind of like those sample bottles of stuff at hotels. Maybe a small logo keychain or bottle opener on a little snap chain(got one of those with a pair of boots I bought once). I do think people appreciate a small token with a purchase, psychologically I think it gives them warm fuzzies and repeat business is a goal afterall. Your logo is great and very condusive to stickers and patches I have seen your t's around town occasionally.

Very good topic, How about some examples and ideas for business plans? I am working on mine and would like to see some general examples of others ideas for sales methods, marketing reseach, startup costs, pro forma spread sheets, demographics etc. I have used Business plan Pro software in the past for a few ideas over the years but I always seem to get stuck on the financial stuff, the wife says it's because I'm a idea man with the talent, and can't be bothered with the numbers. LOL, that would get me in trouble if she wasn't around to pull me out of the clouds once in awhile.

The reason I ask is I saw one for sale on craigs list for $300.00, looked in good condition I read up on it on some sites and the limited info I found said set on zero it sews a straight stitch has a clutch motor and does thin to thick material. I am very short on cash(disability income or lack there of) so I was thinking it would do till I can afford an artisan 3 or 4 thousand. Gotta save the fingers, running out of flintstone bandaids for the blisters LOL. Oh well at that price it is probably sold already.
