I know how violated you feel it really is sad that dispicable trash would rather steal others hard earned property than work for it themselves. Here is a photo of what I found a few months back when I went out to go to a doctors appointment. The local PD and I got lucky about a month later the scumbags wreaked on a motorbike they stole and the investigation turned up my wheels and tires.

Point taken, this is true in most if not all manufacturing, walley world knockoffs of almost every product out there as an example. -
holsters
Jordan replied to OzarkMountainGunleather's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
wow, ???? how do you make a holster that does'nt look like one. There seems to be only so many ways to put them together and so many hardware configurations before they all have similarites that can't be denied. As was said earlier it is a large market and room for many makers, as long as the item is top quality, well designed and the customer is happy, what does it matter that someone was impressed enough with someone's work, to model their product after it? as long as they don't misrepresent it in the marketplace or violate any patent or trademark laws I don't see the problem. Maybe I am just off the mark with this but I would be flattered that someone copied something I made. -

Very nice work, looks sturdy and professional, you should have a ready market for those and more like them. Machine stitching? -
There is a tutorial somewhere on the site (is a link) to make a light box, basically a cardboard box with sides and top cut out, openings covered with tracing paper to difuse the light from a couple of shop lights, made one in about 20 min. worked great and the price was right.

Generally wood glues are not designed to be flexible, in most cases the surrounding wood will fail before a good glue joint does. I don't think that it would work very for leather projects due to it's inherent flexability.

There is an attachment that is like a mini circular saw that would work for straight cuts with a metal cutting blade, also an attachment that is like a router base that may be good for curves.

modify Galco lefthanded shoulder holster
Jordan replied to SmilinJim's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Don't know that much yet but it would seem to me it may not make much difference other than slowing the draw process until he got used to how the snap is located. I think that a snap strap was implemented more to secure the weapon on duty holsters and to help prevent assailants from easily removing it. It also protects the body from pinches and such from the hammer area of the weapon. It would be alot harder to unsnap if you have to reach around the backside against the body, plus that would give the officer more time to stop the removal. Just speculating at this point. -

I have had good results cleaning stuff with a can of spray called PB-Blaster very strong stuff do not let it stay on your skin for very long it will BURN, Co-worker was cleaning an asphalt laydown machine and did not realize he was spraying his crotch area also! It was halarious to see him jumping around yelling and stripping out of his clothes and rolling in the snow. Felt bad for laughing once we found out the reason for his bizarre behavior. It works real good on rusty frozen bolts. You will have to clean the blaster off with mineral spirits or the residue will discolor your leather. Worked real good cleaning up all the nooks and crannies on my brass/bronze? imprint rolls for the strap embosser machine.

great howto, I don't know if it is a problem but to help the staples not pull on the sheeting and eventually tear it you could use the thin strips of dense cardboard that upolstery shops use folding the material around the thin strips and staple through that into the wood. I am definetly going to make me one of these as soon as I get my shop area finished. Thanks, Jordan

How much time would you estimate you spend doing leatherwork?

I know exactly what you are saying about dealing with PTS and Depression it is very difficult to handle at times, the wife experienced 2 car crashes, neck surgery PTS, major depression etc. I developed HBP, Diabetes, nerve damage, chronic pain etc etc. All in the last 4 years. So needless to say things have been pretty messed up. Working with leather has been a real plus in improving my outlook on stuff, now if I can figure out how to pay for everything and win the beauracratic battle for SSDI, we should be ok.... Man, when it rains it pours! But It could be alot worse so I try not to whine too much. -

red or blue training weapons
Jordan replied to Nixon66's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Just got my order of 4 or 5 (can't remember, and too lazy to look in the box right now them 88 cent tv dinners really slow you down) rings handguns and matching mags from mirage technologies out of florida, 34 ea. and 14 ea. respectively. 11 and change shipping to utah. Most of the blue ones also come in black. I have not read good things about red ones and have also read the quality of the aluminum ones has gone way down. -
Consider it done. Everyone deserves to know others care, even if they have never met.

Tandy has also gone with a different belt embosser and they discontinued the square looking aluminum one. I bought one of the older style, they said "last one in Utah" for 150 I think the retail price was 300 or so. I also got some discontinue dies for it, haven't tried it out much, I did have to do some file work to make everything fit better without binding.
