  1. Here are a few of my latest creations, had to do something to curtail the withdrawal symptoms while the forum was being overhauled. Hehehe. The bookmarks have no stain or finish yet, still trying to decide on color, antique or just clear. Finepoint sharpies, and tandy stamps did the deed. The watchbands are a works in progress, still need to be sewn or laced together, make the actual straps that attach to the watch face, add a buckle and keeper then slide them into the slots of the wider strap. Finding a proper sized buckle has been a pain though. Having trouble posting pics that didn't happen befor the crash so I will resize and try again with the edit function asap. Jordan
  2. I tried with no luck, they would only sell 1 at a time, here's a pic not great but gets the idea across.
  3. I still have not found anyplace to buy the watchband buckles that are real thin/skinny and use the same spring rods that a watch face uses to attach to the band. Any ideas? The regular smallest buckles I have found at most suppliers just won't do it, they make the bands to bulky for my taste. I will post a pic when I can find one that may help describe what I am looking for.
  4. Tina, Happy to see you reposted your stuff, it is simply outstanding work. Jordan
  5. Very cool stuff on your web site and "this be the place" to learn huge amounts of useful stuff. I found that the doughnuts are not to be trusted and there is an occaional food fight. LOL Jordan
  6. The black one I dyed blue then black with tandy dye then super sheen acrylic, the other is saddle tan then super sheen acrylic. I used paintbrush and wool dauber on both just slathered it on real good. I have noted a problem with small areas of the clear pealing off on the back of the black one. I will probably setup a couple of dipping tanks eventually and give that a try. Pretty much experimenting with everything I do. I am going to switch to Fiebings (sp) when I can afford it, not to happy with the tandy finishes. Thats one of the reasons I love this site, and all the information I have not been able to find elsewhere. Happy tooling to all. Jordan thanks for fixing the spelling on the title.
  7. And now all is right with the world again. Ain't it amazing how you don't miss something till it's gone. A huge thank you to those who have toiled in front and behind the scenes to restore the a site that really helps the aspiring artist in all of us. The $ from my next sale will be forthcoming, minus material costs of course, so I can buy more leather. LOL Jordan. Seriously though, as soon as I get my financial sea legs back, I will be contributing to this worthy forum. Peace. PS I was wondering is there a way to be able to see a preview of a photo before you upload it. I find I have to open my photos in a seperate window so I can view it. wouldn't want to accidentally upload a compromising one.
  8. Hi Ed, I don't remember the thread size just some stuff I had laying around, made them before I bought your machine so they are done by hand, I just haven't had time to set it up completely, so many other honey dews keep getting me sidetracked. LOL Jordan
  9. Not sure if they will come back so...... Doggonit mispelled couple
  10. What you say makes alot of sense in the mfg. arena, I probably should have been a little more detailed, I was thinking in terms of a retired or hobbyist machinist because the related costs and stuff are kinda nulified by the passion of working metal. LOL Jordan. Costs vs. profitability and all that does prevent or limit what is available in the market.
  11. Just a suggestion, get the basic seven tools try them out then buy more as you need them. You may find those are all you need for awhile. But you could buy a few that you like, at that price like a basketweave some geometrics etc. Careful though, tools have a way of becoming addictive and you end up spending alot of money, better spent in some ways, on leather rather than tools
  12. My wife gave me a dvd for christmas that I really enjoyed it is called Building with awareness the construction of a hybrid house. Fully self contained, makes its own electricity, rainwater catchment and passive eco stuff throughout. We plan on building a house to retire in, outside of tuscon az. grow a few grapes and raise our rescue dogs. It is a small enough house that people will visit but not stay forever ( read Kids LOL) and this is an idea for self reliance I and my wife have been kicking around for years, going off grid and such. Well worth a watch if you are interested in this kind of stuff.
  13. Irfanview is a great free program I had used it in ms win for many years. No linux version though.
  14. That is a good idea, I need to get to a few gunshows this winter. I would rather use a blue gun than mess with the real one, got mine for about 34 dollars. Unfortunately there are none available for alot of guns like my bersa or others that are not as popular. I experience alot less stress about something going wrong when I use a dummy! It allows me to concentrate on the holster rather than worry about the pistol. If a machinist were interested I am sure that the market would be good, as Rings blueguns are the only ones out there that has the quality size fit and close to the weight. I really would like to see some books out there that deal with modern auto holsters, Hmmm, maybe I can increase my revenue stream. Like maybe "Leather Holster Design and Small Scale Manufacturing for Modern Weaponry" or "How to make a Holster that isn''t a Cowboy Rig". And there is always " Holster Making for Dummies" LOL.. Jordan
  15. Uni, that is just like the trouble I had with those stupid tests years ago where you had to pick the 3 demensional object that a pattern makes that is laid out flat on the page. I think it was to see how concrete one's thinking was compared to something or other. My mom used to say our family was bad at that cause we were a bunch of artistic free spirits out to buck the system.. LOL, she said alot of stuff, but most I can't print in a family oriented forum. I do admit I have alot of trouble with knots and braiding do it once the right way then seconds later I do it wrong. Jordan
  16. I think don101 had a post about patterns awhile back. How to make holsters book from tandy also some pattern packs available from them, almost all that is out there in the public is for revolvers of the western persuasion, you will most likely have to design your own for modern autos
  17. thanks will give it a go later today.
  18. I would probably be interested in most any tool that made a tedious and painful at times task easier. You may be interested in an air powered punch that a machinist made for Gremlin on the Chopperhandbook.net forum, apparently arthitis pains led to the design and BIGJIM sent it to him without any notice or cost that I am aware of. I don't know how well it works but I am sure Curtis would be happy to let you know. I believe curtis is also a member here. He had posted an inquiry about .45 cal conchos.
  19. Do you happen to know if it will work with the latest itteration (sp) of Ubuntu Linux? ver.7.10 I believe. Used costly redmond behmouth microcrap for years, then found Ubuntu about a year ago and have'nt looked back
  20. Yes the heat has something to do with it, can't recall the name some french word me thinks.Jordan
  21. Not sure what a J style is but Ohio Travel Bag carries clips of all sorts. And I have seen some pretty sturdy clips on Mfg. websites, maybe they would be willing to divuldge their sources. Even though metal clips seem to be popular and I have used one, most makers lean towards loops and snaps as being more secure during the draw and reholstering process. At least that is what I have read. Hope this helped. Jordan
  22. Thats why I like shopping with the little guy for sure, They deserve the business, and are truly multi taskers. Most of the mega corps. get lost along the way.
  23. I know what you mean I have been plagued with being my own worst critic for as long as I can remember. My wife keeps telling me " If you hadn't pointed it out I would have never noticed. I did find a belt that matches, one of those customers that insisted at 55 his waist was still the same size as it was way back when. LOL I think I will be giving this to my mom as she has a PPK that was purchased directly in Ulm Neu-Ulm. Just after WWII by my father-in-law I believe after he was repatriated. Kinda a forced retirement from the luftwaffe as he remembers. Jordan
  24. You always end up leaving the leather supply store with more than you went there for.
  25. If that is the shop of the little guy, I think I would get lost forever in the big guys store! I have their pdf catalog and they do offer good stuff for a good price.
