  1. yeah it's called "vinegaroon" lots of threads about it on here
  2. i used 1.4mm Tiger thread on the Field Notes case I made and i love it. so much better than that crappy stuff i got from tandy. Going to use 1mm royal blue on my next item.
  3. i am a disabled Iraq war veteran and have very few funds available to buy books that's why i was hoping to find info here. doesn't matter i'll just keep trying to figure it out on my own.
  4. no, that is wrong. it is not tied on a foundation knot that "pushes the middle out". if you look at the tutorial brian posted, it is based on a ginfer knot and the "ring" part that is around the outside is woven onto that over 1 under one part in around the middle of the base knot. in any case i found the knot in grant's book but as i suspected the pictures suck so i cannot follow them. the way he did it is he tied the upper part of the base knot with basically the over 1 under 1 along the bottom, then tied on the bottom half of the knot onto the top half. since all it looks like anyone wants to do on here now is argue and say they're right and get upset because someone asks a simple question i think i will stop posting now because it's not helping anything and just making people argumentative. i don't enjoy conversations like that and do not participate in them. see ya.
  5. if i use a spanish ring knot as a base, won't the raised part i weave onto it be the same width as the Spanish ring knot? i did see references to tutorials for this on khww but none of the links work anymore. i did find it in grant's books, but those drawings are so bad i cannot follow them. going to try it again tomorrow though.
  6. well i was hoping someone might help me out in finding some of these things for a reasonable price but i suppose that's just too much to ask. i don't have enough to buy brand new ones right now due to my disability situation. thanks
  7. anyone have any of these things that i could buy please?
  8. ok well i didn't mean to make you mad. sorry you're put out with this. i appreciate the pic and your efforts in making it. you obviously understand these a lot better. i don't think i will understand those diagrams in all the rest of my living days. but i hold out hope that i will some day.
  9. That was supposed to say "proportions". stupid auto correct.
  10. i tied the 9P x 8B ginfer knot this weekend and it is not the same as the base knot in the pic in the tutorial you posted or in the pic i posted originally. it's much less wide than that one. i want it to be exactly the same as those because the proportions look better that way. thanks
  11. ooooohhh........ok i will try it that way and see if i can get it to work. thank you.
  12. the over under on that thread didn't look at all like either one of the ginfer knots i've tied. i tried the grant book too and didn't see it. not that i can actually follow any of his drawings anyway but i'll check again
  13. thanks for the link there but there is nothing useful in that thread. i tried tying one using the sequence given in it and it didn't work. saw it a few days ago when i started trying to find info on this knot thanks
  14. yeah i don't know how to use that thing and i know i definitely wouldn't be able to figure out a ginfer knot with it. i'll try but i'll come back to let you know when i can't get it to work lol
  15. so no one knows how to tie that specific ginfer knot then huh? i am sure there must be more than one single book that shows that specific knot. i bet some of yall know how to tie it too. lol i'm not very good yet so i don't think i can figure it out. if someone can do a tutorial for this knot i will make a youtube video for it so that others will be able to learn it too. i don't think stuff like this should be treated like it's some sort of State secret or something.
  16. yeah i probably could but i don't want to. i want it to be the same size base knot so it has more base knot showing on each side of the ring knot. that's why i'm asking how to make the exact same knot in the original pdf you posted. thanks
  17. hello.. i am looking for a few items to try to expand into some different projects. hopefully someone can help me out. i'm a disabled veteran so I don't have a ton of money but i have a little cash saved up. mainly looking for some horween scraps that would make nice watch bands. could also use some 1/2" wide rawhide lace for button foundations. finally, i'd like to find a used blanchard pricking iron. i am not picky. just hoping to pick up a good used one because i can't afford new prices on my limited income. if you have any of these please pm me instead of posting in here. thanks for any help acquiring these things.
  18. oh good. well I read on another thread that there was a good tutorial for the ginfer knot on your website, but I wasn't able to find it. the book I have only shows the 9 part 8 bight one and the 6 part 5 bight. but neither of those are the same as the base knot in the link you posted earlier. i'll keep looking. if someone knows which ginfer knot that is or has a tutorial for it pls let me know.
  19. it looks like the one in Grant's book on page 51.
  20. theres tutorials for a lot of different types of mystery braids online.
  21. that is a "mystery braid" if you google it you should find some instructions for it.
  22. no, i said the base knot was a ginfer knot. not the one around the outside of it.
  23. Thanks for posting that. I know you said before you didn't know what base knot that was, so I tried to find it today. looks like a "ginfer" knot to me. does that look right to you? The book I have that shows it only has one long "part" on each side of the short parts in the middle. now I need to figure out how to add another long part to each side and I'll have the same base knot then. I'm not sure it would look the same if trying to tie it on a regular gaucho knot.
  24. If you click on the link, you can see it. I just checked it just now and it works. I tried to attach it as an image, but since this forum software doesn't work right it wouldn't let me do that. Anyway, I just clicked on the link and the pic showed correctly.
  25. you consider 7l x 6b turks head knot with interweave to be "intermediate" then? I ask because I'm doing many more complicated knots than those and spanish ring knots and still consider myself a beginner. lol what would you consider "advanced" level knot-tying then?
