120 years. Yeah. Right. Wow.

Paragear has the best quality thread I've ever used in my twenty years of sewing.
-
According to their manual, you can only go up to V-138 with that machine. You can get it in black, white, olive drab, sage green, and white here... http://www.paragear.com/parachutes/10000046/ Or search for V-138 on etsy, ebay, amazon, etc...sailrite.com has it in black and white too.

probably machine stitched and different colors for thread and bobbin.

A Few New Little Things!
LTC replied to Shaunread's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I would round the corners on that oxblood one and make the stitching follow the rounded corners. The stitching on that one looks a bit wonky to me also...I read that you have to always put the needle in from the same side every time in order for the stitches to stay straight...to stich left/right in the same order on every stitch, if that makes sense... -
Yeah, it really doesn't matter to me whether you believe me or not. I know how that crap affects me and that's all that matters to me. I am done with this. I can only waste so much time having pointless conversations with addicts that are only interested in furthering their addictions. Have fun.

Sounds like a good project. Thanks for volunteering to take that on.

I have plenty of understanding for them as long as they don't use that stuff indoors. I cannot stress enough how badly an effect that stuff has on me. Apparently, no one seems to care about that though. The important thing is how much better your vices are for you...not any detrimental effect it has on others. But keep citing your little "studies" and all. I'm really sure those aren't funded by those ecig companies, huh? I have no pecuniary interest in any of this so do not have any reason to lie to you about the effect it has on me. It literally makes me cough as badly as if I had hay fever and I don't even have seasonal allergies. Just because "they" say there aren't any I'll effects on people does not mean it's true. Oh, and someone using methadone doesn't have any direct negative effect on me, so no...I don't give a crap about that. The ecig garbage does have a direct negative impact to me and yes, I will oppose it and do everything possible to get it regulated and banned in the same places regular tobacco smoking is banned. Every time someone tries to claim it has "no negative effects" on innocent bystanders, I will reiterate the negative effect it has on me. Outdoors, I don't care what you do because I can choose not to be around you in favor of being able to breathe. On a side note, I find it humorous how many people seek praise and congratulations from others for "quitting" (replacing) a horrible vice that they chose to begin in the first place...

sounds like there is a story there...did you get burned by a buyer or something?

most of the stuff I've seen at lowe's and home depot was really, really bad quality. the surface of the metal was badly pitted and rough. I don't think I would use it on any leather items I make because it would greatly detract from the overall quality of them. the hardware I found at tractor supply was a little better, but I will be checking with the Amish place. I wonder if their hardware is made in the US.

How do you protect the "blasted" areas from becoming soiled? Seems like they would become dirty more easily than the smooth parts unless they are sealed somehow. I have the harbor freight blast cabinet also, but I wear a respirator when I blast anyway, just to be safe...(I use their media too...not regular beach sand...I'm just excessively safe...)

You called me a liar by trying to claim that crap has no effect on innocent bystanders after I stated I couldn't breathe around it. I don't drink coffee, tea, sodas...and I don't eat eggplant. Oh, and I was ten years old once and I managed to not start smoking. Guess I was brought up better than that. People like you are why that crap will get banned. You seem to have some sort of self righteous attitude that makes you think you can spew that stuff out anywhere you want...that is why people like me will succeed in getting it regulated, if not completely banned altogether. Saying ecig "save lives" is pretty ridiculous...you're still ingesting carcinogens, you're still spewing out carcinogens for others to be forced to breathe (because you are not absorbing 100% of that garbage every time), and you're making ridiculous excuses to justify that behavior. And don't say "there's carcinogens everywhere"...that doesn't give you or anyone else a right to add to that because of your own personal vices. I now know what kind of selfish person you are, so I am finished talking to you...unless you call me a liar again in which case I will correct that again.

I know how breathing the exhaled crap affects me and I do not appreciate being called a liar. The actual, real alternative is not to "continue smoking"...it's to get control of yourself and stop ingesting all that stuff completely. No one forced you to start smoking and no one is forcing you to continue. Also, that ecig vapor stinks and yes, the people using it smell foul. I can smell it on them. The worst is the exhaled vapor though...I cannot breathe around it. It's horrible. Also, it isn't "safe". There has actually been research completed recently that found the ecig junk is actually more carcinogenic than tobacco smoke. I didn't do anything to those people, so I don't understand why I must be subjected to that stuff. If people insist on sucking on those things, they need to do it outside where myself and others won't get choked out by it. That's all. And if they continue to be inconsiderate with it, yes...I will lobby as hard as I can to get it banned.
-
I hope they ban that ecig crap. It chokes me out as bad or worse than regular secondhand smoke. I know everyone tries to claim it's "only water vapor", but unless you absorb 100% of that stuff (extremely unlikely), there is more than "just water vapor" getting spewed out.

I couldn't find any awls I liked much, so I bought a couple of metal pegging awls and they're really nice for my purposes. I don't have any delusions about being talented enough to make my own awl.

I think you may have more confidence in me than I do. Thanks for your comments.

ok well I am getting ready to make a "trucker" type wallet. I have a few ideas for the exterior design, but can't decide whether to make the design span the entire wallet or whether to have smaller elements on each half of the wallet. I can't decide because if I use a design that goes across the whole wallet it won't look right unless the wallet is opened up completely flat. I don't think that would happen very often, so want it to look great when folded. not sure if I'm the only one that's thought about this but I couldn't find any threads about it before. maybe I am not searching correctly. I'd appreciate any advice on this.

What kind of leather?

Just because I sell the things I make doesn't mean I should be expected to pay more for his books than others. Oh well it's a good thing I already have quite a library of reasonably priced books on leatherworking.
-
Just because someone is "charging" $97 for a book does not mean people are actually buying them...or that the book is worth $97 at all. I am not referring to any future book that Nigel may or may not write -- I am talking about the original books posted about in the first post. There is no way on Earth I am going to pay $97 for a book that has almost no information about it, no example pages or pics, etc. Some might. I will not.

Safety

Or you could contact your local Environmental Health Department and get them to have him mitigate the fumes. That's what I'd do. I mean, you can go talk to him if you want, but when he ends up telling you he's not going to do anything to stop it, call your local Environmental Health Department. If I knew specifically where you were, I would even look up the contact info for you...but I am sure you'll be able to find it for your area.
