  1. if you cannot get the bottom snaps to seat correctly, it sounds like you still may not be using it right. anyway, for those that cannot or don't want to build their own stand, they actually sell one where you can mount it on your workbench. the way i've found that works best to use it is to get the dies on there, put on the snap parts (on the dies)...after punching the hole for the base snap, put the stem through it...then with the screw unscrewed so that there's only a little travel available, press. That should begin to seat it. after that, without allowing the jaws to open, adjust the screw so the jaws need more force to close, then close it again. repeat until the snap is properly seated. usually takes me about 2-3 times of doing this and then it's set very nicely....nice, rolled-over stem...no splits, etc. you need big boy/big girl (e.g. STRONG) hands to use this thing so if you don't have strong hands, seek assistance from those that do.
  2. if you use the press-n-snap correctly, it doesn't break any bones. i've been using one for years and it works fine and i haven't come anywhere even close to breaking anything. my snaps are set correctly and look great.
  3. why did you use really big stitches? i've read generally that watchbands have around 8-10 stitches per inch. you're looks like about 5 or 6spi.
  4. lol!!! +1!!!
  5. i highly doubt it. let's do a little math here using your own numbers and the overcharge on shipping as reported elsewhere. so let's pick a good midrange package total per day of 625 packages. that is from your self-proclaimed "500-750 packages per day", as you stated in the previous post. then let's say on the conservative side that you're overcharging people by $10 per package. i personally think it's quite a bit higher than that, but will err on the low end and say $10 per package. ...and since certain people can't be bothered to read the FIRST POST in this thread, HERE: then let's say she works 10 hours a day. again erring in your favor as i'm betting that is lower too. so...625 packages per day X $10 overcharge per package = $6250.00 gross profit just on shipping overages per day. deduct her salary from that... $6250.00 - $200 (which was $20×10hrs.) = $6050.00 net profit..........just on how much people are getting overcharged. i'll let everyone else draw their own conclusions from the math. yeah. you make "a few cents" on shipping sometimes alright. even if you take into account shipping materials, that cost would be a miniscule part of that $6050.00 per day amount. that's not a $20/hr. job. it's not exactly skilled labor. oh. i see. so you're letting your emotions dictate that we get gouged on shipping so SHE can get her $20/hr. got it.
  6. i agree with electrathon's post above. very well put. grossly inflated "shipping" fees (and "handling" fees) are just trickery to pocket more money. i was going to say something about paying someone $20 an hour to ship stuff, but i'm trying to be nice.
  7. lol well that's great! i think you'll really like it. i'm working on a wallet right now and am about to burnish the edges on the inside pieces...can't wait to try it out again...
  8. thank you very much for the detailed answer! very helpful and i will try to give it a shot and see how it comes out. thanks again!
  9. i'll check it out. thanks...
  10. did you buy the last 2-tooth one they had? anyone know of anywhere else besides fine leather whatever that has them? i don't intend to wait months for them to get them back in stock.
  11. every time i see ridiculously high shipping charges like that, i automatically chalk it up to "well i guess they just want to pocket an extra $28 on the sale" because i happen to know it only costs a couple of bucks to send something that small/light to Canada. .......but that's just me.
  12. can anyone recommend a good place to get 4-tooth and 2-tooth Blanchard pricking irons that actually have them in stock right now for a decent price. before anyone tears into me like last time, yes i know they're not cheap i'm just trying to find somewhere that isn't charging 2-3 times what they cost most other places that's all.
  13. where in Texas are you???
  14. unless someone can point to actual, real specifics about why these are just so much better than pro edge, i'm not buyin' it. (literally)
  15. the one i got from pro edge is perfect. i highly doubt they can get any better. oh and i had mine about 2 business days after i bought it online, so.....
  16. their webpage mentioned having to wait a few weeks for them to fulfill orders right now. i didn't particularly feel like waiting so i ordered mine elsewhere. you should email them again and ask them where your stuff is...i'd keep sending them until i got a reply. there's no excuse for them ignoring you.
  17. yeah without knowing what you're trying to make then any of those would be great. lol (or all equally unsuitable either way haha)
  18. so i opted to not have to wait 4 to 8 weeks for a Dremel burnisher from leatherburnishers.com and instead bought one from Pro Edge Burnishers...placed to order Friday, they shipped it Monday, and I received it today. it's beautiful, btw...but even better - IT WORKS GREAT!!!!! can't believe how much needless toil i'd been putting in just to get a mediocre edge before.....just a few seconds with this on my Foredom and wonderful edges.....even just with water. i'm looking forward to finishing my projects now and am looking around for scraps to practice burnishing on. there is a sweet spot on what speed to use. on my Foredom, about mid range on my foot pedal works really well.
  19. because said newby wrongly posted their question in the "help wanted" area instead of the "how do i do that?" area. afaik, all "help wanted" posts in that section have to be "approved".

  21. go to lowe's and look at the special order drawer pulls. they're probably as close as you're gonna get to actual conchos with your school logo on them.
  22. gee those look familiar... http://www.leathercrafttools.com/shouhin.jsp?id=9668 Ooooohhh....THERE they are...lol
