  1. a Douglas groover (worth every dagnab penny) & a steady hand
  2. I've got 2 Paasche VL's - they are workhorses - and by buying two the same, you get to interchange parts and become very familiar with the units and how to use and care for them Airbrushes are very maintenance intensive, but I love mine and wouldn't trade them for anything. You can go wrong with a Paasche - for the price, availability of parts and the performance IMSHO - of course steveb
  3. This belt went out last weekend. Standard fare for me. Only bummer is the customer had a cheap crap buckle he "loved" - oy!! Colors came out nice and i eveni managed to kinda color in the lines...lol steveb
  4. man - that is slicker than eel shite, you did Frank proud!! time for a smokin' bunny seat!! i like the touch of black..nice steveb

    Logo Stamp

Ed - I use a mallet, one good solid shot does it, the small crossed mallets stamp is sharp so it cuts deep w/o much effort my name stamp is bigger, less sharp and so requires a good swing of the mallet to make a good deep impression... you cant double hit these, I get ghosting if i do...so...hit it once - like ya mean it steveb
  6. wow - you need to be doing concept work for cirque de soleil, great ideas and I love the execution you got it going on!! thanks for showing us something truly out of this world, I dont know where i'd ever see anything like that as my friends dont play dress up
  7. well i dont think it is appropriate for belts either...I dont know about you - but in the summer - when on my bike in the heat or when workign outside, i've sweat through my jeans many times...i dont think id want a black stripe around my waist!! steveb
  8. if your going to be punching ovals out of a decent weight leather you better be strong - no double hits if you want clean edges-one whack and you best be through.. I'd get the heaviest damn mallet I could find and I'd put a rubber mat on an anvil to do my punching......you want a super solid surface to do your punching... IMSHO, of course steveb
  9. A 19yr old? eh? I tip my hat to him...just coming up with the scratch and the idea at that age deserves major props. good to know young folks are into it steveb
  10. hmmm - i like what you did with your bike, and really like the antiquing on the sidecovers and aircleaner - cool the copper lower legs look good too and how the hell can you not love heat wrap on upswept fishtails!! i dunno about the lack of front fender tho, i do too much foul weather riding to be able to deal with that for long..ha nice!!...here is my baby after a week long trip along the east Coast seaboard and more! steveb
  11. lol - ya think! bedliner is the solution...methinks
  12. that is an extremely cool wallet, like the design but I am concerned that carving around the bend of a wallet, as I am of the maybe misguided notion that it will introduce a weak spot to an area that sees alot of bending and flexing... nice carving and i dig the inside...got a smile outta me....lol good yob mon steveb
  13. man that is one ugly bike IMSHO, looks pieced together from a confused box of parts the modern fork is old style Indian, leading link springer the gimp bars dont match the 21" hoop, actually the bars match nothing on the bike the pipes have brit trumpet cones on shotgun drag headers crime scene chopper oil bag, that doesn't match anything deep tunneled sporty tank, modern spun headlight close wrap rear fender and a chrome and black evo engine wrapped in whitewall donuts yikes oh yeah - check out the mounting of the oil bag - he is shorting himself a quart of oil when he fills it - he should have made angle mounting blocks to get the oil bag horizontal so he could have gotten the full 4 qts in there... smoking seat tho!! steveb
  14. the galleries are made by a little elf in my devil box i am worldwide... and prefer not to be defined geographically by where i spend my waking time your welcome to see my work anytime! I try and post a majority of my work, but have only been moderately successful as of late
  15. I am in NYC every day for my day job. My shop is not far from the city... I dont know that I have a lot of talent, but I am a leatherworker and I am in NYC... steveb
  16. please- i have NO problem showing my ass, obviously - you've seen my site - but my day yob got me a runnin' and i've been squatting on a few jobs and really really need to get out to the shop for a few sessions...and i know I have more work a 'waiting at my POB...ugh.. as long as people don't mind waiting, and they don't, i will keep on now i think that ebay idea is wonderful, if you want to give it away - if youve got a local bike shop thats decent - put a chain on the wallet and tell the owner to hang it from a hook - give him 25% of what he can sell it for above XX$$ i'd say a decent bike shop could sell that for $200+/- or so, depending and youve made a connection... (now i just may be out of line, you may be a salty dog thats already run this path, in which case, I withdraw my sugg..ha!!) but in my experience ebay is full of bargain hunters and knuckleheads buying chrome hearts repro crap...and i just hate that, know what i mean? lol, thats me, the optimist steveb
  17. nice, some killer turns on the sewing machine, the art reads great quite the technical job - congrats, you must of been dizzy when you were done nice- and how can you not love orange and black, i mean...they just go hand in hand... steveb
  18. lol - main, i love thqt people post their work here, dang if mine were better i'd share more....ha! anyway Kevin well... i get the concept, but i cant say it is my favorite piece of yours...seems kind of like one of those distressed pairs of jeans that is trying too hard to be authentic, know what I mean? i think your too good a craftsman and artist to be pulling off "quick & crude"...or down and dirty.. personally, i like your style very much my .02, worth what ya paid - but i am really digging your snark-a-mundo linings - very shweet!! steveb

    Logo Stamp

well travis: both of my stamps are from infinity, made from tool steel. expensive, but for it - they deliver killer quality in terms of design, manufacture and materials - a lifetime stamp, with reasonable care taken my .02 - why fool around, do the no-brain stuff once steveb
  20. nice - great deep layered look, looks very technical, i love that kind of precision... very rich looking excellent job! i hope you charge a pretty penny for them, they really add a lot to the knife carrying experience and the blade quesiton - do you use cams and internal locks - or do you use the tension of the sheath to hold the blade in? steveb
  21. ok- i dont want to throw any cold water on your idea or your execution - but i need to tell you this.. those grips are going to be uncomfy - on bare hands (which you should never ride with) and even moreso with gloves on - too much material - edges and all - will be mighty uncomfy. ironbraid.com (pic of his work att) is someone you might want to study if your interested in making a good product. He did my levers on one of my bikes about 8 years ago - and they have taken a beating and are just now starting to come apart and show age grips need to be smooth, maybe with a rib or two or some real tight lacing so you can lock you hand on - but something woven like that will not be practical and will stretch out and get all distorted, forget about rain... just my experiences with things like this.... i have just a few miles on bikes.....lol YMMV steveb
  22. i have 2 Bosses, and they are set up differently - thread, table, attachments, etc. They are indispensable for my work (another reason i have 2) and a great deal of the look of my work is due to the fact that I am using a Boss. BUT - when i first got one - it wa a royal PITA, Ron Ross - from the ###### was key in getting me some advice so i could set a baseline for my tensions - once i understood how to do that, i was good to go and haven't looked back since (4 years or so ago) - i use 277 and 207 threads exclusively in my Boss's I dont need speed, speed kills and so the stitch by stick nature of the Boss suits me fine although on a long belt, my right arm gets a bit burnt steveb <<LOL - i see the name of our peer group, "the guild " gets blanked..ha!! - johanna - your a joker>>
  23. wow - beautiful, certainly a technical tour de force...I hope none of my customers ask for something like that..lol..unlikely but in looking at it some more, its almost too precious, more fine art than leather, very Peter Main'ish, and although Peters work is plainly outrageous, it is of little interest to me from a leather perspective ...i ike my leather tough, kind of crude and "hewn", not finessed - like Peter's and Jim's work - out of the material... give me an axe, who needs a modeliing tool!! arrgh!! arrgh!! nice to look at - a "talent muscle flex" certainly, but not the kind of practical work I hold in high regard... steveb - feeling kind of "caveman-y" at the moment!!
  24. I too have had excellent experiences with Wickett & Craig and I too speak with Glen when I call. They also accept email and lately I have been sending in an email in advance of when i order and then he calls me to confirm the details. Admittedly, I dont order very often, my goods dont use up a tremendous amount of material - so a side lasts me awhile Their veg tan is the best, most consistent I've worked with. my .02
  25. beautiful work, i love your flames - really sweet, very dramatic, great color!! it must be tough working with those tiny tools you show in your pics...you've got to get yourself some full size ones, working would be so much easier!!
