  3. Hey Guys, I've done a lot of trial and error testing trying to get a good Olive/Khaki color with Fiebings Pro Oil dye. Anyone done this before? Anyone have a good formula? I've been using yellow and black and for the most part its been a pain. Any advice here would help Travis Poole Bad Love Leather

  9. Is using this stuff really necesary? The last few projects I did I used oil dye and dyed both sides of the stain so the penetration was full.
  10. Hey Guys, Along with the great info I get here from you guys, my quest for fire leads me out and around town to locals. Where I live there aren;t many Cowboys left but a lot of hoity toity horse people and so there are a few saddle makers around. Since I'm still new to carving I went to the local guy yesterday in hopes of learning some. One of the things he did tell me was to use Oxalic Acid to treat the leather before dying. Where do I buy this stuff around town? Can this be purchased at the local super market or hardware store? Thanks Again! Travis Poole Bad Love Leather
  11. Thats a great lookin seat. I don;t want to be a devils advocate but why is Jester misspelled?
  12. Well. Working on a few more new things. I've been trying to branch out and do some different projects. Here are two knife sheaths that i made for a cheapo knife I have. The one on the left is a thick brown leather with an brown elephant trunk inlay and whip stitch kangaroo leather edging. The one on the right is a brown latigo with an ostrich leg inlay and a kangaroo lace mexican braid.
  13. Every time I open my mouth in this particular context i make money. Grant it shes yer sister but what you produced is excellent. I'm sure the next few will go quicker and could make you some good money in the right circles. The bag looks great!

  16. Did not wet mold this one. Let me tell you guys the T.Poole method of doing things: I'm a Bull in a China shop. Its funny to me but I usually barrel into these projects saying to myself "Yea, I can do that......." and most of the time they come out OK. I have some good leather working skills that have helped me along. I got halfway through this one and was completely frustrated and then looked here and saw Davids kick butt tutorial and felt all stupid. BUT I manned through it and learned a lot and I think that Fries will love his seat. I will also get an air driven rivet gun as the cheapo one I got from Harbor Freight fought me the whole way. David, I will definitely learn from your mastery. When doing this braid its one piece. I generally work with pieces that are about 2ft long and I seam. I used quarter inch cowhide and it was really difficult to work with. Next time I'm using Kangaro that I will hand cut. AND I probably will follow Davids directions. Funny. I thought the carve and tool were gonna be the things to devil me the most on this project. They were easier for me than expected. This is really the first big thing I've tooled.
  17. Well it was only a matter of time. I've been riding for the past 13 years and my leather knowledge has been hungering. My friend Fries wanted a seat for his old Iron Head Shovel. So he told me what kind of skull and cross bones he wanted and left the rest up to me. The seat pan is a Bar Industries pan and its kind small. I've learned a lot from you guys on here already so this was easier at some points and harder on others. I definitely learned a lot and will do the next seat different. So, here are some progressive photos. Any feedback or constructive criticism would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Travis Poole Bad Love Leather
  18. I've been noodling around with some belts. I did one and then dyes it with Fiebings Red Oil dye and then painted the letters with Angelus White Paint. After Several coasts the red is still bleeding through. Any suggestions?
  19. Here is the fruit of my labor. I have to say the tooling of the basket weave was difficult. This wa my fist attempt at it. The bag is 9.5" wide 4.5" wide and 5" tall 9/10 oz veg tan bought at Tandy for $4 a square. Oil dyed all the way through I'm pleased about how it came. The customer is jazzed and I will getting paid for it Saturday. Thoughts?
  20. For the insides you should use 1.5 to 2 oz skin. Rolling the edges doubles up a lot of the pockets and the combined total can make the wallet thick after its done. Most people will pack the snot out of their wallets with all sorts of nonsense so a good guide is to make the wallet as thin as possible. Trust me I've seen my customers show me their wallets a few months later and they look like little footballs. If a kit doesn';t satisfy your creativity i always recommend buying a cheap wallet and taking it apart to learn how its put together. Look around here, you may find some good design ideas. Best of Luck to ya on this project. Have fun with it!!!
  21. Don;t know if this helps but here goes: If the wrist is measured 7 the I make the cuff 2 inches bigger and from snap center to snap center an inch to an inch and half bigger. So a 7" wrist size cut the leather to 9 and center the snaps 8" to 8.5. Average sizes for most people are from 6.5 to 8.5 while smaller men and women have 5.5" to 6.5"wrists Bigger men and women have wrists that are 8.5 to 9.5. Bigger than that charge by the foot......... LOL
  22. I have a CS Osbourne Gomett Setter #235-00 that I'd like to sell for $20. I'll ship for $5. Pay Pal only please. Thanks, Travis Poole Bad Love Leather
