  1. Thanks Jeff. I hope its something he will keep and his kids can ride. When he outgrows it I will have an excuse to build another one. If south Texas gets to hot come see us in Alpine. CW
  2. Pete , Look on the third page of this section and there is a topic titled welts and swell covers that I posted awhile back. Keith gave a very detailed answer that helped me alot. He points out some things that aren't in Stohlman's book. I would have put a link to it but I'm to dumb to know how. Good luck, CW
  3. Thanks JW. Its a 13 inch Will James with 12 inch swells and 4 inch cantle for my little boy. Sonny was sure good to deal with. CW

    San Carlos Quirt

Havn't posted any braid work in quite awhile. Here's a quirt I just finished. The taper on the handle didn't come out quite like I wanted. Let me know what you think. Thanks, CW
  10. Look in the Saddle section under tools. Bruce Johnson posted some pics as well as some others. They are not hard to build if you can see the pictures. You can build them as plain or fancy as you like. I built mine out of scrap lumber and tore up windmill parts. Got about 10 bucks in it not counting the leather for the strap. good luck CW
  11. That should make some fine rawhide. Glad it worked out for you. CW

  15. If you want to lime it all you need is a big plastic trash can and the lime. $20 should get you everything you need. Fill the trash cash can about 1/2 full put in your hide and a coffee can of lime. Make sure your hide is covered and wait till the hair starts slipping. Scrape it, rinse your trash can out and fill it with clean water and a gallon of vinegar. Rinse your hide off real good and try to get all the lime off both sides then put it in the vinegar water over night. Take it out and put it in your stretching frame out of the sunshine and wait till its dry. If you want to scrape it you are still going to need to get it wet enough to stretch in a frame till its dry and tight enough that it doesn't have any wrinkles. Then scrape it with a good sharp knife going with the hair. I never have stpripped one out and then taken the hair off but I believe RCsaddles does them that way. Maybe he will jump in. Good luck, CW
  16. Thanks JW. Means alot coming from you. I admire your work and your horses. CW
  17. Here is my first major saddle project. I traded for this old saddle a few years back to ride colts in and it was in pretty bad shape. It had a rawhide cantle binding that had pulled down into the seat and a hole rubbed in the cantle leather. The swell cover was almost rubbed through where the rope sits and the jockeys were in pretty bad shape. When I got it torn down, I found the riggings were pretty raggy so I replaced them and the stirrup leathers and covevered the stirrups. I have a ways to go yet but I sure learned alot. I want to thank all of you on here who helped me when I got in a jam. Please give any critiques you see and ways I can improve. I see alot of them but hope you can point out some I missed. I can't wait to start one from scratch. CW

    Maker's Stamp

That one was $48. That included shipping and tax. If your not in Texas I think you will be able to waive the tax. That price is for up to an 1 1/2. Anything larger is $5 more. Her link is lasergiftcreations.com. She is great to work with. CW

    Maker's Stamp

I just got my Father's Day gif. My wife told me to order a maker's stamp. After all the good words about Brenda at Laser gifts, I ordered from her. I ordered it Thurs and got it today. It is even better than I had expected. I just had time for a quick test. If anybody is in the market for a stamp you can't go wrong. CW
