I've heard of Ken around in circles, but never met him. It is always nice to learn in a class setting, lots of ideas and opinions. I'll have to try the newspaper thing next time, which will hopefully be far off in the distant future.

I have been to Hotlanta several times and neve once seen anyone wearing something remotely close to that. Must be some serious underground cult. Very nice work though.

Anyone, know where I can get some more rawhide mauls and heads, new. Tandy did have the ASB mauls but now everything is Poly. I'm a traditionalist and prefer the rawhide ones. I don't want those cheap rawhide mallets with the wood handle, but some rawhide mauls with lathed leather handles.

Wow $30 a pound, I don't know if I would like it that much. I realize it has a name, but I haven't had any problem with my thread at half that price. I would have to be very curious. Mostly I use Helios Hernan. Work Good for meet. I have tried Southern Thread, but the nylon wasn't bonded very well.

which spacing between straps do you like better?
TracyMoss replied to esantoro's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
Let me clarify. If the dees or rings for the strap are sewn on the side of the gusset in chrome tan, it might be more likely to tear out. Especially if the dees or rings are sewn on with chrome tan/chap and not veg tan. -
More than likely the end of the week. Thur/Friday possibly Sat. I would like to meet up. Maybe you can PM me a number if you are available. Or I could give you mine. I haven't decided for sure when I'll head up. But, If I had to chose a day it would be Friday, I will definitately be there by noon. Got to get some of that free BBQ.

Nice bags, I can see where the chrome tan might not be suited for strap on the side. Thanks for sharing. -

what kind of dot is that? -
I wonder what kind of books he'll be marking with that? If it is a bookmark.

Do you mean the ink or carbon powder? Interesting, never thought about that. Where did you go to school "Bob".

I'd guess creaser as well, the lines are too defined to be made by a beveler. Or it could be a divider. If you case your leather properly the lines stand out real well.

Thanks for sharing your old photos. I always enjoy looking at old saddles, it makes you realize nothing is new in the saddle making world.

Lucky for you women have to have twenty different purses. Change it up a little and you'll have them hooked on the NEW EDITION.

Very nice work. Did you use two different machines to sew it? -
The buckles look Good. I order alot of Custom silver buckles, so the price seems good to me.

Ed do you ever make any out of skirting/tooling sides. -
I have to go with Bruce on this one. I wouldn't touch it.

Well you could make your own. As for not parting with the folding stuff, my charities are limited to particular local causes. Don, I cut the back so thatt when I folded it out it would work like a picture frame and then I added a piece of leather to fill in the space and fold out to the other flap and I sewed the two flaps together. Howver, next time i will devise a neater looking design.

They make an upholstry glue about the same cost as AP cement and I used it when I worked at a saddle shop in Texas with a paint sprayer for woolskin lined items and many other items. It worked really well and made it easier to apply a light coat.

It is really hard for me to tell, without carrying it. I put the straps on the gusset on my briefcases, but they are made from leveled skirting/tooling sides. Notice the forum in the background? My wife tells me I'm Addicted! -
As long as they don't see the back! The picture frame look in the back was an after thought since it was too top heavy and I should probably shorten it a little bit, but I guess it might work for some brochures as well.
