Well, I guess there's still some regional differences betwixt us. Ray, a low country boil is a seafood cookout, where EVERYTHING is thrown into a 55 gal drum, and a bonfire is built around it to get it to boil. To serve the food, dump most of the water (using welding or noodling gloves) then up end the drum on a sheet of plywood set on trestles. There's a splash of near boiling water, then just a big pile of boiled food. There's no plates, napkins, or manners. I think it probably evolved from large 'community' soup/stews made by the river folks back in the old days.....check that...the really old days. You know, the '50s. "...sounds like a medical condition...." And you called ME droll.

Very nice portrayal of Sitting Bull.

umm Billy is not speaking American English. He's speaking Southernese. Of course, he's speaking the South Carolinian dialect, while I speak Alabamian. Ahem...let me attempt to translate: Maws = hog jowls, spider (in this context) is a pot/large bucket of cooking oil over a propane burner. There's not much to the burner- 3 or more legs and a burner head connected to a regulator and propane tank. Wash tub is a large (usually galvanized steel) tub/bucket holding anywhere from 5 to 50 gallons with handles on the ends. It's called wash tub because depending on the size, they were used to wash clothes, vegtables, or people. Some washtubs might more easily be recognized by you by their other name...trough. Billy, how'd I do on translatin' your style? Down here on the coast, we have low country boils.

Since this thread got bumped, I'll reiterate OderNix. It's an enxzymatic scent killer, and it works. It may also be sold under 'hunter's odornix', or 'veterinary odornix'. There's a few flavors, some with scents added, but the basic mix kills all odor and there's nothing left to smell. http://www.denniscastro.tv/websites/odornix/maincatalog.html BTW, I have no investment in this product or company, so I'm not 'promoting' it for any reason other than that it's a great product. -
Where is leatherworking in Australia going? The only way it can go- NORTH!

I'm really leery of things like that. Before using it, I'd try to see if it had any executable files that would allow it to autonomously access the internet. It might be a very pretty trojan horse that sends all your passwords to a hacker.

hmmm well I'm still trying to learn about Gimp. Instead of 'copy', I right clicked and did a 'save pic. as'. Ain't it great to have all the different progs, where instructions aren't universal?

If nothing else, copy, paste, and save as a jpeg. Then you can do anything with them.

There's a thread about KK for the reading, and unless it's changed, his Paypal account is posted for anyone that cares to make a contribution as well. -
I am going to print at least the second half of this thread. Herein lies PROOF that at least two people have acknowledged that I have a sense of humor- never mind that they're on different continents than me! ....and what's wrong with my sense of humor anyway!?!? I'm having a mighty time with the visual of the Rayus Britannicus image copyright of Warner Bros.

Don't ever ask for 'chitterlings', as no one will know what you're talking about. Here, the pronounciation is "CHIT-linz". Google the term 'chitlins' if you don't know what it is. Oh, and "cracklin's" are fat that's double deep fried until it's expanded and crunchy. Almost like a pig fat 'cheese puff'. It tastes like bacon, and almost qualifies as a food group. And if you come visit the US, bring your own beer- our's is like sex in a canoe. Another difference I've seen a lot: Here in the 'States, an engine is also referred to as a motor. I can't count how many arguments I've gotten into about the difference.

Grits are the South's version of Ambrosia:) It's coarsely ground corn- white corn for white grits, yellow corn for yellow grits. Boil until softened, but not squishy. Serve lightly salted and peppered, with a spoonful of butter, or alternately with ham and redeye gravy, or cheese. Some folks even ruin them and add sugar, which in my house is referred to as "Rurnt Grits". (oh the mental image y'all must have of me now...) Overcooked (and unsalted) grits, like rice, makes a pretty good adhesive paste. Cream of wheat is pretty much like grits, but made from wheat, not corn. Hominy starts out as corn, but the end result is different due to processing, and the fact that most hominy is whole kernal.

There's a special magic potion available for this. It removes inhibitions, and grants confidence. Recipe: Mix 1 part whiskey with 1 part whiskey, and carefully stir into 1 part whiskey......

Latex swords......... sissies! In my (enter the way back machine) role playing days, if and when we opted for 'live action' playing, it was with EMT, RIGID, or some iron plumbing pipe wrapped up in pipe insulation and wrapped again in duct tape. There were no "magic spelled swords", and no dice. The two combatants faced off and didn't 'whack' each other- it was more like 'pummeled', or 'beat down'. In anycase, there was no confusion as to who hit who or when. Also no confusion as to who won Thinking back on it....I'm not sure if my younger cousin ever forgave me for not knowing the 'new' rules...hehehe.

Marketing your item on ebay, craigslist, etsy............

This is starting to look like it's turning into a TROLL thread- keeping an issue revived even after most folks would gladly let it pass. -
We have Grits in the South; Oatmeal, cream of wheat, and hominey are for other places. And thankfully, we DON'T have porridge.

So....it's more of a hide and hoard what you've got, and hope nobody ever finds out about it?

Today is catch up day for me. First, catch up on sleep, then catch up on LW, then catch up housework/cleaning. Sometime after I get done with procrastinating, I fully intend to catch up school work. Then maybe, just maybe, I'll remake the IWB holster for my Colt.....nah, I like the ugly one I use now.

Welcome to Leatherworker.net ! Here's a link to a primer on the main page for carving leather. It lists a few of the tools and defines their purpose. However, this is by no means a complete list and you are welcome to post your question threads. Basics to Carving Leather https://leatherworker.net/introcarving.htm Note: I didn't write the guide, just linked it.

:wtf: I've been called many things before, and not all of them flattering! But I've never, never, never, ever been called a Legend. (is being called a Legend good or bad------I'm not well versed in speaking upside down Aussie.) As far as showing only half a stamp.....well, you have to make the impression on some leather before you scan it....so I'd say make a scan of 5 impressions of each stamp (that's starting to sound like work isn't it). Full impression, then top, bottom, left, and right. Either that, or when you add the image in the layer, just use the eraser tool in the graphics prog. to remove what you won't be using.....naw, that's too simple. Do it the first way to have the image of what you'd put on leather. Mike PS I know you asked about software that could do this, but have you considered just scanning the impressions and printing them on transparancies to lay on the leather?

Mobile phone cases

Well I hate to but the Tandy version is a one piece model, suitable to stiffer leather, and is commonly assembled with only three or five rivets. -

The administration of this website gets paid nothing. This is all volunteer work- a labor of love. -
Davy I think you could do this fairly easily with just a graphics program. You'd need to scan in each type of impression, save each image with a name (like the stamp #) and adjust the transparancy of the image to allow overlapping. Then, create a library of images, perhaps a 'pallet' of each where you could just click the image and drag to the target location. I'm not preficient with photoshop so I can't speak for it, but GIMP (and successors) allows the user to work in layers. I'm thinking multiple layers of images overlapping would give you a good idea of what your multi-stamp designs would look like before landing on leather. It'd also give you a nice way to organize the order of the stamping.
