do you think this would fit a CB3200?
-
check out this chart for the thickness of leather that you currently work with, and what you are thinking of working with https://www.tandyleather.com/en/leather-buying-guide.html . I am planning on ordering a Cowboy cb3200. One of the bags I want to make the machine will need to sew through 3 layers of 8-9 oz vegtan and through 5 oz oil tanned which is 15/32" thick... the CB3200 is rated for half inch and up to 5/8" thickness of leather. But that would only be maybe 6 D-ring/strap holder straps...the rest of the bag is all 5 oz oil tanned.... So once you know how thick of leather you are going to work with then you can start narrowing down on machine types...and good luck finding a used machine on the low end... the CB3200 is $1695.00 plus shipping and accessories.

There is a love hate relationships with the Tippmann Boss. If you are mechanically inclined and like tinkering with it, then you might be ok with it...but it also depends what your planned use of the tippmann is... I work with medium weight leathers , from the impression I got, the Tippmann is great sewing through thick layers of leather. I came close to buying one and asked a member here for his advice and he agreed one of the Cowboy models would be better suited for my needs. What kind of leather work do you do, or want to do?

nice setup! how much did the Uwe's custom flat-bed cost? And yeah I am torn about machines lol... Only can justify spending so much money at the hobbyist level...only plus is Toledo sewing told me the machines do hold their value if I decide to trade up at a later point.

I spoke with Ryan Neele from Cowboy., the CB3200 would handle the heavier leathers, just not less then 2 layers of 3 oz... but that's what I have my sailrite lsz-1 for.. want to talk to Bob From Toledo Ind sewing today if he has any other machine suggestions... maybe get lucky and he has something used that would meet my needs

Now, I guess I am not seeing it, but what is the difference between the CB341 and the CB3200? The 341 is $300 more and won't use as heavy a thread as the 3200.

Hello folks, I am starting to look seriously for a machine, hoping to have it by the end of January/beginning of February. I am a Hobbyist, I like making leather journal covers, but really want to make leather backpacks and messenger bags and old world style leather duffel bags/weekend away sized bags. Mostly hand stitching I have been working with oil tanned leather in the 5 oz range but I read I should be using vegtan 7 oz or so...I guess both have their pluses. I need to keep the budget under 2k. A few models I have considered are the Cowboy CB3200, and Springfield leather has a Cobra 20 that sounds spec wise similar to the cb3200 but only goes up to 207 size thread. I guess with the cb3200 and the flat bed attachment would give more options and more thread sizes for the future. Any other suggestions? I saw in a posting a person here made a leather and denim backpack on a cb4500 and she said she at a few times had almost half an inch of material under the presserfoot... so I don't want anything too small but can't justify a cb4500 right now lol...maybe once I start making some extra money lol.

Hobbyist looking for an industrial sewing machine

March I was told -
Hello Folks, I am mostly a Hobbyist, but friends have suggested I should try selling my work on etsy (along with a million other people lol) I like making bags and want to start making backpacks and travel bags but the thought of the amount of hand stitching kind of makes me drag my feet. I have a Sail-rite Ultra-feed® LSZ‑1 PLUS with the monster wheel and using leather needles, which is ok for canvas work and light weight leather but the 4oz oiled utility hide I got from Tandy's black friday sale, the largest leather needles they make for my machine wont punch through it...it does ok with the 3-4 oz veg-tan I put through it but it sews too fast for the control I want to have over the piece. I was looking at the Cowboy CB3200 I think it will meet my needs and been watching some YouTube video's but I figure getting some opinions from here might help. I will be honest I am curious about their new Outlaw hand powered model... but for a little more I can have a powered unit and the servo motor is much better then the electric motor on my LSZ. I really need to make up my mind in the next few weeks because I had a workman's comp injury over the summer and have to have a disk replaced and fused that was done 30 years ago in February and I am looking at being home for at least 3 months... and won't be up for making my rustic country furniture (my other hobby) so I figure leather work will be doable. Hate charging that much on my credit card, but I know I will go stir crazy at home with nothing to do.

Thanks Wiz, I am resigning myself to the fact I guess I am gonna have to spend some money. I am thinking about the Cowboy CB3200 or maybe the Outlaw... I guess I will start a new post about it.

is that why the tippman boss they came out with rubber top and bottom stops as opposed to metal bolts for it to stop against?
-
Just out of curiosity, how much would a CB3200 head sell for with a knob for a handcrank go for?
-
to be honest, when I saw the first picture of the CB2500 I thought it was handcranked. I for the next few years have only so much space for my "tools(Slowly renovating a cabin I want to retire to one day...so lots of power tools)" and I don't want a big industrial sewing machine in my bedroom...the idea of portability, bolt it on my work bench when i want to do some leather work stuff, when done slip it into a case and slide it under the bench.

Very sharp looking! Why aren't they being marketed in the US?
-
very surprised, got an email back from Ryan Neele the US guy Hello:Yes, the Outlaw will be a much improved version of the Boss.It will have a longer arm, all cast iron construction, and will have a bigger hook and bobbin. The machines should be here around the first week of March. It should be a much better machine than other hand crank versions on the market.Ryan

Since this post is several months old I decided to email CowBoy to see if they have any idea when it will be coming out.

Hello...I saw these on ebay and Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Leather-Sewing-Machine-110v-480w/dp/B013FU9WSM/ref=pd_sbs_201_9?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B013FU9WSM&pd_rd_r=2W6WB4SRR7PVFC5M0G30&pd_rd_w=HkuGB&pd_rd_wg=y0BkB&psc=1&refRID=2W6WB4SRR7PVFC5M0G30 Was wondering about it. I am a Hobbyist, probably the heaviest weight (now) would be oiled 6-8oz hides (I like making bags/backpacks etc. I have a sailrite lsz-1 which is fine for real light leather. I have seen lots of gorgeaus machines 2k and above but for my use it isn't worth the small space I have for it... more portablilty even if it needs to be bolted to my workbench, can always put it away when I am not using it. I really like the look of the tippman boss for that reason. If I was doing leather work more professionally then a higher end machine would be on the list... but that isn't the case right now. Any other machine suggestions would be appreciated. thanks deryk

Looks Great! Thanks for the update! -
After I saw a video on youtube about why guys as we get older should have a man bag it got me thinking about it. I like breinging my tablet out with me to read on when I get bored, and I am at the stage of not quite needing t wear glasses full time but I need them to see anything small if the lighting sucks. So I have decided to make a crossbody/Sling backpack similar to this http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=61849&hl=%2Bbackpack+%2Bpattern 14" tall, 9" wide by 6" deep. Just big enough to carry a change of clothes if I stay out for the night...a pocket on one side and an area to hold a water bottle on the other. Now my question is without much of an overlap of the top if it rains is it going to get wet inside? I was debating ideas of making the top a separate piece and be 1 inch wider so it would give it a half in ch on each side...or taper the top in a bit . Any suggestions? thanks
-
yeah I was looking at that, and watching Ian Atkinson's wallet video has given me a few thoughts. Thanks!

Hello Folks! I have been looking through the forum post's on wallets and not finding what I think I am looking for. I am looking for a larger sized bi fold wallet that could hold at least 20 credit sized cards. yes sounds insane, but driver's license, work id, 2 work door swipes, health card/prescription card/dental card, union card(actually 3 with work related info)atm card, visa card, grocery store cards, a few business cards etc I was actually surprised at how much I carry in my wallet lol. I thought about making a card holder with the grocery store ones and leave it in my truck, but I know I will remember that i left it in the truck after standing in line for 10 minutes at the check out. Any suggestions for a pattern?
