Inaugural Speech (Political Content)
randyandclaudia replied to Bree's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
If you know anything about the multiverse, you would understand that we are all interstellar aliens. The greatest thing that could possibly happen to this world would be the proving that life exists everywhere in the multiverse. At that exact moment when no one can dispute it, we will all become earthlings. Then perhaps we can all get along. -
I am a husband and father first! Nothing in this world is as important as my family. Nothing! I study the cosmos and work everyday to fill my toolbox with the tools I need to continue my journey of enlightenment. Being awake and aware of my place in the universe is necessary to be alive in the moment of each day. By being true to myself and what makes me happy . . . I am a leather artist! One day it will be our only source of income. I used to create my art for money only . . . Now I focus solely on doing my art for my heart in knowing that commitment, dedication and perseverance to us being happy is what will bring success. Randy If you were randomly placed into our universe, the chances of being on or even near a planet would be one in a billion, trillion, trillion! Carl Sagan

Hey Ian, A great friend of mine once told me his formula for charging for his work. I've stuck to it from that moment forward and it works. Figure out what you would do the project for if you really needed the money (pretend that you don't). . . double it and add $25.00. Especially when you are doing custom or one offs. Works everytime. Your work is awesome . . . make them pay for it. I know an incredible bootmaker who doubled her prices and all of a sudden her orders shot through the roof! Keep on keepin' on . . . nice pants!

We're all put on this planet to be happy. Claudia and I have been pursuing our leather making dream for twenty years and we still have a long way to go before we don't have to worry about the bills. At least we are awake enough to realize that the true reward from our leatherwork is the fact that we get to do it. Most people don't get to do what they love to do. We stopped doing leather for about 3 years in order to bring in a steady paycheck. Cut 21" off of my hair and Claudia and I were on the way to making six figures. Wow . . . were we unhappy. It's what we felt we had to do at the time. So we did it . . . it sure made our families happy not having to worry so much! One day back in 2004, Claudia looked at me and said, " I feel like a rockstar in the witness protection program!" That was it. It has taken the past 5 years to get back on track to relaunch our business again. Sure we've made a few things here and there . . . but if we didn't stop, monetary success would have already found us. Ian . . . don't stop your work is excellent. Dreams do come true. They're going to come true for us because we will make it happen. If you are following the dreams that make you happy you are already successful. I'm the wealthiest person I know and I don't have a lot of money. Here's to 2009. The year Claudia and I will finally have our dream workshop running and on it's way to monetary success. This forum has been a delight. Looking forward to contributing more often.

Thanks MaxxEmpire. It's evident that you understand what you are looking at. Not sure if I have a photo of the suit of armor, but I do have another awesome photo from the same day. I'll see if I can locate it. Take care Thank you for the huge compliment. The old Ferrari concept works well for us fellow leather workers. "What can be conceived, can be created." True we all see something different in the same piece of leather. It is what makes us all different. The same holds true for the human race. If we were all the same what a boring place it would be.

First I would like to say Thank you to Beth for her compliment. Second I would like to respond to the question about using computer programs in our work. The answer is no. Everything is done by hand, the drawing, color coding, cutting, etc. Thanks for your response. Have a great day. Randy -

I have 6 glue pots in desperate need of cleaning. Thanks for the suggestions. I have many different types of glues that I use, but I wanted to pass along the information on some incredible glue that I have recently been turned on to. We've all probably fried our brains already on the toxic rubber cement fumes. I know I have. It reacts like rubber cement except it is a synthetic latex. You can even let it dry and reactivate it with heat. Excellent Glue! I don't use it for everything . . . it definitely saves the brain. You can get it from UPACO Adhesives Division Worthen Industries, Inc. out of Nashua NH. The product name is Synthetic Latex and the number is 1812. I was sent a sample and have quickly found the need for more. The biggest issue for folks is they have a $400.00 minimum order. That's a lot of glue. The good thing is it won't go bad. Hope everyone is having a great day. Randy
