  1. Thanks Jordan! I guess I was naive over their use of the word "free". I've since learned my lesson. I asked my husband for the latest edition/package of the Celtic Knot Font, which I always loved but haven't used since we got a new computer (which only takes cd-roms). I also have a collection of Dover books and others, so it's not like I'm crying over losing Aon as a source. It was more their attitude than anything else. As it was, I had a sleepless night fussing over it - I know, I'm too sensitive for my own good.
  2. Okay, let me see what I can offer... A pair of collapsible cups One of my coffee cup wraps One of my lighter covers Two mini flasks A Tandy ID pocket kit Two wrist cuffs, for the same person, to cover her tattoos for work Mystery braid in VA Tech colors (Go Hokies!) A bracelet for a customer...went through a few trying to get the spacing better
  3. That is a REALLY cool idea! Nice work too.
  4. Timd, I like those money clips! (I like the stuff Ray showed alot too!) I never thought of using button magnets in place of the rectangle ones.
  5. I have in the past recommended aon-celtic.com as a site with really beautiful work, including a freeware section. After receiving a scathing note from the artist's "watchdog", I have come to realize that FREEWARE isn't. I had used some of the designs on pieces that were gifts, and one or two that I sold. Since pictures of said work was on my site, the watchdog sent me a note about copyright infringement. I am retracting my recommendation of the site. If you continue to use it, beware. I have had my webmaster remove all pictures of their work, and I have deleted it from my patterns folder. It seems to me a person should call something "only with our permission and you paying us" instead of free. But I guess I'm dumb that way.
  6. Here is the final list. You are now in charge of making a 3x5" or smaller "artist trading card" for the person beneath you on the list. Last in line makes one for the first person. Remember, anything goes design/style wise. 7. Phil, I'll drop TwinOaks a line (though I suspect he'll see this here). He told me he'd have the list randomized today and back out by tomorrow if I recall correctly.
  8. That is an amazing piece of work! Love the colors, the design and your workmanship.
  9. Tandy does sell a kit that is a 3 ring binder. I think they call it a memory kit or something like that. Another option would be to buy a binder and make a cover for it.
  10. (wow, my avatar did change to me and the ol'dusty hat...wasn't sure it "took"....) Okay folks, deadline is here, and I will be sending this list to TwinOaks. If any are interested, I spoke with Billy at the Tandy in Charlotte, NC and the "cards" are available in a 12 pack for 15.00 to those with a business/tax ids (I don't remember what the retail price is...) Stock number is 47300-15. 11. We will take names 'til the end of today. I've asked TwinOaks, who so generously volunteered to help (LOL!!), to randomize the list when we're done; so after that, it'll get posted and you'll need to contact the person after you on the list to get their real name and mailing address. Here's the current list, remember it will be re-arranged (randomized) when the deadline comes. If ever you note I leave off your name, tell me! 12. Stunning! I always love to see your work.
  13. Beautiful! My only suggestion, and it's for the inside, is to gouge fold lines where the spine is, so it folds better. Don't know if you did, so am just mentioning it.
  14. Tomorrow's that last day to sign up! I had a question from a member that led me to think that next time we'll go back to the "anything goes" style (i.e. you are not restricted to making a "business card"). This time around though, we're going to stick with what we've decided on. Here's the current list, remember it will be re-arranged (randomized) when the deadline comes. If ever you note I leave off your name, tell me! 15. Feb.3 is fast approaching! Jump in now or wait 'til the next go-round... Here's the current list, remember it will be re-arranged (randomized) when the deadline comes. 16. Glad to have you! I'd stopped for a while too, but it's an addiction with no known cure
  17. Like Kate said, any design/style (inc. inlays or embossing) is fine. Here's the current list, remember it will be re-arranged (randomized) when the deadline comes. 18. That is some AWESOME work. I really like it alot! My younger sister moved to NC (Raleigh area) from NH last year, and she's enjoying the lack of snow.
  19. To re-state and update some details... Deadline for accepting names: Feb.3 I will post the final list next day (or two) thereafter. Deadline for mailing your Pay It Forward to the recipient: Mar.10. You are responsible for finding out the "real name" and mailing address of your recipient. In recognition of the fact that some might have a problem keeping the card within the original 2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inch size, let's allow a max. size of 3 x 5 inch. Also, I’d like to reiterate what TwinOaks said. Please don’t worry if you’re new to the craft! Here's the current list, remember it will be re-arranged (randomized) when the deadline comes. If ever you note I leave off your name, tell me! 20. I like the coaster idea too, for the next round (no pun intended!) This is a link that was posted on the Pay It Forward topic to show what we mean about artist trading cards: http://tandyleather.wordpress.com/atc-gallery/ PLEASE, since this answers the question as to what they are, if you want to talk about Pay It Forward, do it under that topic. THANKS!!!
  21. List now is: The list so far: Wildrose (Holly) TimD dbusarow (Dan) TwinOaks JLSleather Budd4766 Luke Hatley jbird (Josh) CitizenKate Crystal DScott Donnie Blaze Leatherman1457 I'm going to take an earlier suggestion and have the list randomized when we're done taking names, so remember that you will likely not have the person who is currently after you on the list! That is EXACTLY what I'm talking about! Thanks!
  22. They are actually quite small. I was really hoping to track down the ones I'd seen on Facebook, since I was pretty sure that person is on this site too. Anyhow, go to "All about us and off topic" and look under the "Pay it Forward?" topic for the rest of the info.
  23. I saw on Facebook that some people were making trading cards out of leather. They were being passed around and now I can't for the life of me find any pics of them. We want to do them for our next Pay It Forward here, but would like to see some examples. So if you are either making them or have some from another leatherworker, please post pics!
  24. I'd swear one of the leatherworkers posted some on Facebook, but now I can't find it. Will post about it separately and see if we can get some examples out.
  25. okay, positive responses so far, so let's go with the trading card and set the "take names 'til" date as Feb.3 (a little over a week). Then the list will be published and we'll set a deadline on when your card will need to be mailed to the recipient (I'm thinking Mar.10, that gives a little more than a month). If you'd need longer to get it done, you can always let your person know that. I waited on one and MAN was it worth it. I've loved everything I got so far! You can make anything you want on your card. The point is to represent yourself; but you may also want to get a feel for things the recipient likes/does if you so choose. The list so far: Wildrose (Holly) TimD dbusarow (Dan) TwinOaks JLSleather Budd4766 Luke Hatley jbird (Josh) CitizenKate You will make something for the person after you on the list. The last person on the list will make something for the first person. Remember this list is not finalized yet. When we stop taking names, you will be responsible for getting the "real name" and address of your recipient. Remember we have members from all over the world! With cards our other advantage is keeping shipping costs down...
