Awwww! and what a beautiful dress!

biggundoctor, that's honestly what I usually do! If the oak pattern folio were not something I could use for other items, I'd not be considering adding it to my collection. In their defense, they did bring a leaf/tree i.d. book to show me some photos of what they were after.

Thanks!

LOL to you both - right after I posted my request, I got my Tand-E-mail notifying me of the portfolio being on sale! How's that for timing! So I'm going to be calling Charlotte, NC, Monday morning and ordering one!

I've been commissioned to make a small notepad cover/folio. The fellow mentioned that in Germany, oak leaves and acorns are used to symbolize a hunter. I'm guessing that's his heritage; because that's what he's after. He and his wife have not chosen ANY of the patterns I've sent thus far, however, so I'm writing hoping someone can send some my way. It shouldn't be too elaborate. The wife specifically showed me red oak leaves in a book, and according to a search I did, apparently the red oak acorns are one of the deer's favorite kinds? Any help would be appreciated. I have a flask cover to make for him first, so I have a little time.

Buying A New Shelter For Fairs/festivals
wildrose replied to wildrose's topic in Marketing and Advertising
I'm jealous of your set up! The biggest events I've done are, in order: #1. Steppin'Out, a 2 day street fair in Blacksburg, VA. #2. PA Renn.Faire in the Lancaster area (2 weekends out of their run) #3. NJ Renn.Kingdom, a 5 weekend event in North/Central Jersey. (did the whole run a few years) Here in Radford, I sell at the Farmers' Market every Sat. morning from Apr-Oct. Other than that, I usually do small, in door events. The nearest major Renn. faire is in northern VA, and isn't feasible for me at this time. Hopefully some time in the future, I'll get back into the faire circuit; I really miss it! Most all of my work is Celtic themed. I make everything from keepsake boxes to Bible covers and notepad holders to wallets and the like. Pretty diverse really. -

Nighthawk, had I stayed exclusively w/Ren.Faires I'dve bought from Panther. Great selection and site. You've certainly done well by it! -
Oh no! He mispelled your name?

A recent Facebook post nudged me to remember Jeff Mosby, of Grey Ghost Graphics. I dropped him a line and had him make me a stamp. Just wanted to post that I'm VERY satisfied. Speed, great service, and quality, at a great price. ps it's a 1"

Buying A New Shelter For Fairs/festivals

I ended up replacing the carry bag - found one at a good price on eBay - and that has sufficed for now. Had some heavy rain one weekend recently and gave my neighbor vendor an unexpected "bath" when I pushed up the "lid" of the tent and the water sheeted off it....oops! -
I have a paperback Bible and the cover I made for it is 4/5 oz veggie tan. I gouged lines for the spine, so it would fold nicely, and used separate pieces for the interior flaps. Works fine for me!

ranting by me no one really needs to read

Man, you're having a tough time of things!!! My heart and prayers go out to you. -
I've been cutting my own strips for mystery braid bracelets for a while now - they sell like hotcakes around here! - but always dread staining them because it's messy and time consuming to get to the sides and insides while the strip flops around in my hand or on the dye table (yes I wear gloves). Suggestions? I should add that I usually use either a dauber or sponge tip brush to apply the dye/stain.

What a blessing! Your father would surely be proud of you putting those tools to work. I know my father in law (still living) loved passing along some wood shop things to me that I am making use of in leatherwork.

That is simply amazing! Great job!!!

I have a tax id here in VA, and it gets me the business prices at Tandy, which significantly reduces my cost. Works for me.

Dale Grabowski, of Grandpa's Pastime. I love mine from him - he's a great woodworker. He calls it a sit 'n stitch. http://grandpaspastime.com/SITNSTITCH.aspx

Welcome! We're glad you're here! It sounds like you've found a helpful store/good service to start with, and that's always great. I remember when I got back into leatherwork after college, having first learned it at a camp as a teen, our local Tandy was incredibly helpful to me. There are people here from all over the world, who make leather into all kinds of things. I've done dog collars myself on occasion, and I've found it's nice to make something that's basic yet very useful - and still offers so much chance of customization! Anyhow, I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions and comments for you

Getting Rid Of "pests" In The Workshop
wildrose replied to wildrose's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Suze, I've had that kind of pest too - LOL! I turned the de-humidifier back on and put out some more damp-rid, and things are a little better so far. I'm sure the "battle" isn't over though! We put fresh batteries in my son's "bug vacuum" and trapped a spider with it today. It was fascinating to look at it up close (in the container portion, which has magnification) without worry of getting bitten...because, aside from my fear, THAT is my big worry. I really don't want a spider biting me. I had one a few years back that swelled up my elbow and I had to spend days draining pus out of it...YUCK! -
Our basement is finished into several rooms, including a bathroom, our den/son's playroom, and my workshop/laundry room. The workshop has its own entrance, stairs that enter down from the side of the house, under a covered awning that comes out the side of the house. When one enters the shop from within the basement itself, one immediately passes the washer/dryer and progresses to the shop area. It's kind of an "L" shape overall, so while it is narrow entering, the shop extends back after you get in. ANYHOW, I'm having a huge problem right now with creepy crawlies. Let me say up front that I have a phobia of spiders. I have gotten to where I will let them live if they are outside, but if they are in the house: they're dead. Same goes for other insects (yes, I know a spider is not an insect). I've had crickets, which I generally let go, earwigs/pincher bugs, etc etc. Is there a way to easily remedy this situation? Our house in PA had a plug in thingy that I guess emitted a sound bugs didn't like? (Left behind by former homeowners). I don't really want to spray, since that'd involve moving alot of furniture. Maybe just spray around the door and window/dryer vent? I killed 5 spiders (two very big ones) in one day, and today killed 3 and some bugs.

Quetzalcoatl Book Case
wildrose replied to czechmauseritis's topic in Books, Journals and Photo Albums
I understand if it's a no, but my son is crazy about Quetzalcoatl and if you'd care to share the design, please pm me. -
Love your avatar! My son and I love the Penguins of Madagascar.

I feel your frustration! Then to find the original piece at the end...Argh!

I agree that the guys at Charlotte, SC are great. I've started mail ordering from them; I also like the Raleigh crew.

I'm the suspicious type too! I'm hesitant at all to do it, but figured with my hubby home too, it ought to be okay. The fellow is a local Gideon (the guys that give out Bibles) and my father knows him too. Not that he still couldn't be a "bad guy"...but it makes me more willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I've been checking around while awaiting replies, and most folks seem to feel 20.00 is in the ball park. Yet I also know he's low on funds. But part of me says: if he really wants to learn the craft, he's going to need to at least put out for supplies, right? Those are my thoughts at this stage.
