Thanks! I have one of Celtic patterns and I love it. Always on the lookout for good patterns...

We have a guest speaker(s) coming to our church (Central United Methodist Church in Radford, Virginia, USA) next month, and a friend and I will be keeping the children busy while the parents/adults are in listening to this person(s). What we would like to know in advance is: - what kind of kids' games are popular in that region? (we're guessing soccer - maybe it's called football there?) - what are some common foods? - what is your most typical kind of transportation? - what are your houses like? - what are schools like? What are popular subjects, for example? Anything you think kids might like to know about your area of the world, I would REALLY appreciate it. And if you have pictures you'd like to send along, that'd be terrific too. All we are allowed to be told is they are from the Middle East - apparently security is a big issue, and these folks are not even allowed to receive letters from our church!

Danger! - Public Service Announcement
wildrose replied to druid's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
Just because something's not new, or has been going on for years, doesn't make it right. Druid's warning was justified. I for one wouldn't think twice about picking up a piece of trash (i.e. a bottle) to throw out if there was a trash can near by. Now I will think on it alot more! It's sad that there are people out there that think pulling this sort of stunt is amusing in some way. My son is always picking up stuff, talking about keeping the planet clean and not littering. -
Peter, I'd considered that angle too; not sure which way I'm going to go yet.

I'm down past Blacksburg, VA. Welcome!

See there, Billy proves my point! I think all of us have had bad experiences (and sometimes more than one) with a supplier. I don't have an issue with venting about it, stating facts and if it was resolved. It's when it degenerates into name calling that it's a problem.
-
I for one am grateful to hear all sides of a story. There are many suppliers, in fact probably ALL suppliers, who have had customers have negative experiences. Does that mean everyone should not order from them? NO. It is simply some consumers stating their problems with the company and the company having the opportunity to respond. I shop Tandy almost exclusively. For me, it suits my needs and my budget. I've surely had some trouble with different locations over the years, but I still shop there. You, the consumer, have the choice where to go. Let's leave it at that.

I've got this same question posted on the "How Do I Do That?" forum. -
Tandy's Holster Sheath Kits
wildrose replied to reddevil76's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I generally shy away from gun-leather, because obviously guns are something to be taken very seriously and what is holding them ought to be top-notch safety wise. For family though, I was willing to give it a try. For a first attempt, and using a "generic" pattern, I was happy with the result. -
Thanks :-) Gives me some good thoughts on it!
-
I guess my main issue is how to keep the thing inside when the cover is opened.

Tandy's Holster Sheath Kits
wildrose replied to reddevil76's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I used a Tandy kit to make holsters for my brother in law, who was involved in cowboy re-enactment. He was pleased with the outcome. -
I've had a few friends and locals asking about Kindle covers. Having never made one, let alone even seen one, I'm not sure how to go about it? (I plan to check some out soon at the local bookstore or electronics place like Best Buy, but I'm not sure they'll have any open for "inspection")

I hate repetitive work like that - but it can be good money and your finished product is really nice looking!

Slaughter Free Leather Not Selling As Expected
wildrose replied to Johanna's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Steven, I've been following this thread on and off, and having read your most recent post I feel a need to reply. Any time a new product comes out, there will be positive and negative feedback. Even when we think we are doing something right in "creating" a new offering, it will not always be seen as the "next big thing". I guess my best advice would be to take it as a lesson and keep doing the great work customers say you're known for. -
My issue through the whole thing has been the use of the term "freeware". Why call it free if it's not? The clipart I used on my leather pieces was only ever from that section. Of course, I've learned my lesson. I just didn't want anyone else to fall into the same "trap". the aon site still loads just fine on my computer too.

I'm happy with mine from Grey Ghost. I don't know about a brand, but drop him a line.

That is absolutely gorgeous!

For our moms' gift exchange, I went to a local gift store and bought some handmade plaques with inspirational words/Scripture on them. They were appreciated, and I felt good shopping local.

I saw that in the paper today and I almost cried just reading it. Made me think of "The Giving Tree" book, in a way. BTW, I live in Radford, Virginia, and it was in our local paper!

Christmas Music - What Do You Think?
wildrose replied to UKRay's topic in All About Us and Off Topic
I hate that song by the Waitresses, "Christmas Wrapping" I think it's called? Unfortunately, my husband loves it. If I could ban a song, it would be Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer. They even made a cartoon of it, and it was awful! -
There's a Silent Night one out too that's beautiful.
-
I could honestly have a field day with the typos/grammar issues on this site as a whole....but I won't. I WILL say that I thoroughly agree with the original statement: Tandy ought to at least send a message via mail/email to that store's clients to advise them of the coming closing.

Ray, you asked about a stigma attached to wearing an earring, and I'm going to be blunt: when I was in high school, what ear a man had the ring in denoted if he was gay or not (and I don't remember which was which, so I can't tell you that). Then it got so generalized that if you were a man and had an earring, you were "announcing" you were gay. Really! Nowadays, I think more guys have them, and it's not such an issue anymore. My husband has often said he'd like to get his ear pierced and I tell him "go for it!". His parents would have a fit though ;-)
