  1. I did as Jock54 requested in his first post and PM'd him. He explained that he is in Australia and is looking for someone to make belt buckles - and I for one have made several, so I think not everyone buys them solely with belts or permanently attached to belts. Here's Jock's post to me: "wildrose, thank you for the reply to my post, i have only seen pictures of leather buckles, and it seems that a piece of metal is used as a blank, and covered with leather that has a wild animal or a carving of what you like on it. The metal clip is also bought with the other parts as a kit, i understand. I cannot find anyone here in Australia who makes them, the leather shops do not stock them either. If someone makes leather buckles, and would be interested in selling, PM., me. Thank you wildrose for your assistance. Kind regards. jock54." Let's all take a deep breath, and try to help the guy out. Patience on all fronts would be great :-)
  2. I'm so sorry for you. I hear the ceremony at our local park is fantastic every year. Vets deserve better.
  3. I don't do Sheridan at all, though I've seen pattern books of it via Tandy and other suppliers. My suggestion otherwise would be Dover Publishing. Coloring books, tattoo books, "how to draw" books - basically think outside the "leatherwork" box.
  4. Reuben, my best friend had a Boss in his shop, and he'd totally agree with you!
  5. if you want to take a Beginning Leatherwork Class and you're in this region, I'm teaching at the Giles Historical Society in Pearisburg, VA. It's July 9 & 16 (those are Saturdays) from 2:30-4:30. Cost is only 25.00!
  6. There's a fantastic video called Pittance of Time which I highly recommend.
  7. Thanks Tim! Those are perfect for me too.
  8. I've written to this guest as well.

    Key Fobs

I'm looking to buy some key fobs to make into keyrings for sale at my festival booths. Not really thrilled with Tandy's shape, and don't really need the rivets and rings that come with it. So I'm wondering if any of you have a set up to click them yourselves and would be willing to sell me some?
  11. I understood that about the brown - I just felt that lining a brown collar with black lining wouldn't really be an issue. Of course, we all have our preferences :-)
  12. I'd suggest buying the bridle leather that you like and perhaps lining it with black goat from Tandy. So you wouldn't have the the dye step, and black goes with anything.
  13. Wow! Gorgeous! You'd did a fantastic job with those, and the bag came out great.
  14. mine like to hide small hardware (like snap parts) 'til I'm walking around the shop with no shoes on.
  15. ahhhh, I understand now - sorry about that. I've had that same issue on sword scabbards, actually. I guess it's easier to do on big items though.
  16. Using a strap end cutter would be the solution. I have an English Bridle strap end cutter and it'd work for something like that. You can get them in different sizes, and cut off only as much as you want.
  17. I would rivet the top one on (if you look on the left and right sides, near the bottom, it has small circular holes that would be a good spot for that); and glue the bottom one. That's me! As to glue, probably a "white crafters glue" like Leather Weld. Sewing is certainly an option though.
  18. I too have done both...but actually I prefer it dry. And I always test the "depth" on a piece of scrap first so I don't go too deep on the cut.
  19. get to do one of my fav things today: lacing!

  20. I make leather roses, and I had another vendor give me rose oil at an event, saying to me that maybe I'd want to scent the roses. I never have. People always tell me how much they love the smell of leather, so why change it?
  21. ROTFL! Like something from "A Christmas Story". Thanks for sharing....ours was a lot more mild. My mom and dad have a small (10 acre) horse farm in Christiansburg, VA. We gathered there: my parents, my sister, brother in law and their 3 kids, my husband, son and I. We had an egg hunt for the kids, and a big family dinner. My sister's family dog was there, as was my parents' dog, and neither caused that much trauma ;-)
