  1. I was raised by a conservative Christian family, and have been a church goer all my life. I have a strong, personal belief in Jesus as my savior. That said.... I have dressed up almost every Halloween for as long as I can remember. I went trick or treating 'til I was "too old". Now I get the treat of seeing kids coming to my door, while Tim takes Ethan out (or he stays here and I take him around). We are glad to be in a nice neighborhood, and it's safe and well lit. I enjoy seeing the costumes kids (and parents!) come up with. The only thing I get annoyed over is teens who walk around with little or no creativity to their costumes, carrying a pillowcase or plastic shopping bag. Those are the "moochers" - they're only out for some candy. I guess that's how the littler kids view it too, but at least they and their parents are putting some effort into the experience! Some of the older kids don't even give the standard "Trick or Treat!" phrase, just shoving out the bag. Tim won't give candy to anyone who doesn't say it. I have had friends over the years who only see the negatives and the history of Halloween, but I see a chance to dress up and have fun.
  2. I'm with Angel on that one! BTW, I like the new dragons they have too. Going to be stocking up soon...
  3. Yeah, Spence, it pretty much screams Elvis to me The stain is Eco Flo. Initially, I was shooting for a light blue. The customer had wanted white, but I talked her out of it. I started off with Hi-lite sky blue, but didn't care for it, so applied All-in-One mariner blue. After everything dried, I applied a liberal coat of Aussie Wax before setting the spots and rivets. I use Tandy for all my supplies.
  4. I'm thankful for the suggestions I got on making this. It didn't quite go as planned, but I'm pleased overall with the result, and it was a learning experience - which is a good thing! (I'd had to move the buckle from its original position, which is where there is a slot on the back; and I made an error in the layout of the gems on the right hand side of the star)
  5. The Celtic Classic....ahhhhh, yet another reason I miss living in Bethlehem. Just not another festival that size down here in VA....
  6. My husband thought it had to be the shape of the blade, but open at the top so it could come out. I'd love to see any patterns you'd like to send. Customer wants it to be very plain, in fact said scarring on the leather is even fine. It does need a belt loop. Thanks!
  7. It belongs to a friend of a friend. I accepted the sheath order before I knew it was for a curved blade...
  8. I've never made a sheath for a curved knife before, and am looking for any and all help I can get on this. Thanks in advance!
  9. Here's the beginning of the setting; should've allowed for more room on either side of the star, but it'll look good when all done.
  10. I might try the cuff next time then! Thanks for the idea You can see some of my knotwork, along with some of the stools I've made (think they're on there at least...) on my site: http://www.wrcleather.com
  11. Congrats! I like your sister's quote - that's how I feel about the cat we adopted from our city shelter.
  12. I realized I erred in the length I cut for the strap - it was too short to try Spence's way. So I still folded it over, but I put the buckle on one end, then stitched in two keepers, and hole punched the other end. Right now, I've measured out where I will begin installing the sparklies. Will start setting them tomorrow. Pics to follow, of course.
  13. I don't know about that one, but the ones I've made held at least 250 lbs.
  14. Does the cuff of leather hold the legs together well? I usually see those with what we call tri-bolts....but they're notoriously hard to find.
  15. I love men in kilts! No arguments here.
  16. You're welcome. I did a final modification pre-carving: I made the open end curves/finials on opposing sides. It looked a little better that way, to me.
  17. Almost cussed a blue streak when I realized I'd measured (and gouged) the spine/fold line wrong on a photo album cover for my cousin's wedding. Had to cut off the spine entirely and make it a separate piece. Turned out okay in the end, just meant more sewing than I'd planned on.
  18. That helps ALOT. I can see I ordered the wrong kind of buckle for this style. Can you tell me what you're using?
  19. It'd be hard to be mad at that face!
  20. This is one of those moments when I'm reminded how lucky I am that my 5 yr old won't even open a door to go outside without telling one of us.
  21. If you could show me one of yours layed flat out, I'd appreciate it. I was thinking the buckle went on the end, but I re-read your description and realize the D ring is on the end.
  22. I'll go ahead and add my .02 I'm often asked "would I do some examples for display?" and it goes nowhere beyond that. Usually those shops will pay me for a piece or two, and I've come to expect nothing further. I've been asked about doing consignment, but never really got to the DOING stage 'til a few months back. I sell at craft fairs and our local farmers market. A new store opened up in my town, and the owner saw me at the Farmers Market (right across the street). She asked if I'd do consignment. For me, this is the chance for my work to get daily exposure at a really cool shop. Her rate is 75/25 (YES, I get 75%! That's a pretty good deal as far as consignment goes) I love the shop, it has a variety of hand made products in it, as well as tie dye and fantasy themed t-shirts. I've already sold some things there, and picked up my first check.
