  1. I'm going to be working on a wedding photo album for my cousin's upcoming "big day" (late Sept.) Her invitation had starfish on the corners, with waves lapping at the shore. I thought of incorporating that on the cover. Suggestions? I'd also love instead to do other shells? Am looking for ideas. She has always loved my Celtic work too.
  2. Cool! I believe I saw them open for another group years ago. Always liked them.
  3. Looks like a purse. The long pieces are the gussets, they are sewn end to end at the flat parts. The one large piece would be the front of the purse, and the largest piece I can't guess on. The smallest piece looks like it'd be used for the closure.
  4. Yes, in fact I think I used some of what's lying under it, actually, or something similar.
  5. I took a square of leather, folded it over, stitched it across the bottom and up the side, and added a clip to the back. You can also make it longer up the back, and have a "flap" closure. This one had a magnetic "button". I'd likely do that differently next time.
  6. Sorry Drac...I almost always eyeball things too. Sometimes I don't notice it's off 'til the whole piece is done. Then it drives me batty.
  7. Beautiful! Since you've asked, the thing I notice most is that it's off center.
  8. Let's not get into baiting again, shall we? There is no reason to get antagonistic when the purpose is to present information/get information.
  9. Von Fuct, I understand how frustrating chewing dogs can be. The Airedale my parents have now is their first female, and she is mouthy about everything! She's not a mean biter, but just is always snappy. She's also a jumper - almost knocked my son down a set of stairs. Friendly dog, poorly trained. The training is everything. My understanding/experience, Tony, is that crate or kennel training is the use of a metal (or other) "cage" appropriate to the dog's size where you put a nice bed and things to keep him/her comfortable when you need him/her contained. I.e. you're going out to the store or when we had puppies we'd put him/her in there overnight to keep them from wetting around the house. It is NOT for very long periods (as my mother's boss found out). It should not be a negative experience for the dog. It should almost be like a "den" where they feel safe. We left our crate up with the door open for quite some time as the latest Airedale grew, and often found her or one of the cats snuggling in there. She knew she could get in away from the visiting kids there (though I have a funny pic of my son climbing in there with her!) Muzzles can be important too. I often see a variety of them on dogs being walked; or at groomers; or on tv vet shows where the vets are unfamiliar with how the dog will react to treatment.
  10. While you did ask for a pattern, Von Fuct, it isn't outside of the range of this forum for people to try to give constructive advise on alternatives. No one was slamming you by suggesting crate training. The fact that you yourself had suggested it to your roommate tells us that you knew of it too; the wise thing would've been to just state you'd done so and leave it at that, without getting defensive. My family has owned Airedale Terriers for years; and anyone with terriers will tell you what chewers they are. We have always crate trained them, and it has never harmed them. A muzzle could get caught on any number of things within the home, and cause alot more trouble than a dog in a crate. It's sad that your roommate doesn't understand the potential benefits. Perhaps you could present them with research on both subjects (crate vs muzzle) Crate training can be abused of course: my mom's boss kept his Airedale in a crate all day long and couldn't understand why the poor dog was bonkers upon being let out. People are only trying to give suggestions, so let's not turn this into a shoving match, okay? No one is out to debate the value of properly used muzzles.
  11. Actually, I have that video; you're right, it's pretty straightforward.
  12. I had some of the Tandy pattern packs, and the most useful advice I ever got was from a biker/leatherworker who instructed me how to make one using the customer's own jeans. I made a pair of shotgun chaps for my dad that way. (ps, all by hand, I don't have a leather sewing machine) That was a while back though, and I don't have contact with that person anymore.
  13. I don't have a problem with those who want horse meat to legally aquire it, and for horses to be legally slaughtered for a valid reason. I have a HUGE problem with stealing someone's pet from their field or barn, butchering it, and leaving the carcass for some distraught owner to find. That is cruelty, and also does irreparable harm to the owner's emotional state. Such people should be caught and jailed for a very long time.
  14. Their loss is Tandy's gain. I'll never forget his generosity to our 4H group. Great guy.
  15. What kind of printer are you using?
  16. Got this from one of my closest friends, who just moved to Prattville, AL: "We seem to be a locus for Timber Rattlers here. I have a hide curing on my shed door now -- a little over 4 feet long (snake was close to 5 feet). The rattle was 9 segments. One of our neighbors shot it as it came out of my pasture. Sloppy shot -- tainted the meat and put a couple of large holes in the hide. Still -- it is a snakeskin. How difficult are they to work with? If I get any others, are you interested in having one (or more) -- I can't guarantee a steady supply -- but I'm fairly certain we'll have others in the future. Also -- if I harvest one, are there any special instructions you would have to make it useful to you? (First one's my experimental/educational skin for my homeschooler). "
  17. That is very ingenious! Good work. You have a patient dog!
  18. LOL no problem. I find alot of people think my real name is Rose; I jokingly say "no, it's another plant...Holly" I use alot of pretty basic tools: mostly checkered bevellers, small backgrounders and such. All from Tandy.
  19. Thanks :-) I figured it was easier just to post it than send it only to one person. My husband is Timothy Moore, formerly of Girard, Ohio. My family name is Atkinson, and I'm originally from New Jersey. We met at Grove City College in western PA - about an hour north of Pittsburgh.
  20. I'm laughing 'cuz the hummingbird is also my fav. With the fish at the top being second. They are all really great, and definitely have that Arizona feel.
  21. My husband got a belt pouch he loved at a Ren.Faire in NJ years back. I took it apart, traced it, and have made several since - including this one for him. The one he'd bought was plain black. It's a pretty basic item, so I really don't feel I'm "stealing" someone's idea. I've seen this type of thing everywhere.
  22. I agree, it's definitely important to know what will sell. Sadly, my favorite thing (boxes) just doesn't sell as well as these little projects.
  23. I appreciate all the feedback :-) It really is an easy project, and you can keep it simple or make it very decorative. We have ALOT of coffee shops around here, so I'm hoping it'll be a seller.
