  1. Nice looking seats. Dig the colors you are getting. What did you use for the border on the nordic seat?
  2. Just wanted to update I got them today. Wonderful, pics dont do them justice. They feel just right in the grip and look amazing. This is one of those things where Im glad I made the choice to order from Ed. These are well worth the money.
  3. Hey Rawhide I would PM ChuckBurrows as he has been doing the vine technique for a long time. Ill tell ya what I do. Smaller pieces I usually dunk in the vine, larger I take a sponge and wipe it all into the leather till you are sure its soaked in a good bit, youll be able to tell when you get a good coat going on. Once I do that I let it sit for a couple of minutes. I fill a clean sink with warm water (not hot) and put some baking soda in and swirl it around to get it to disolve. Then give the leather a quick bath, not too long as the baking soda will change the ph too much from what I have heard. I just swirl it around for 10-15sec. Then I give it a quick rinse with fresh water. I then let it dry and when its allmost dry give it a coat of neats foot. Usually I need about two coats, Ill do another one when its completely dry and depending on the leather this is usually good enough. In my case I usually will give a good rub down of sno seal or picards or similer and that will usually absorb in real good. Then I like leather balm with atom wax. This finishes it off and usually turns out a nice jet black with a slight sheen to it. Thats just what Ive come up with. As allways experiment with your leather that your using.
  4. I never bothered with the nails but what I did was get a bucket with a plastic lid and poked a few small holes in the lid. Grab your steel wool and lit it on fire. Burns nicely for a minute or so. I did about 4 or them and thru in the bucket. Put about a gallon or so of vinager and let that sit and it was ready in about a week or two. Ive had the same mix and must say that now after its been sitting for a while, probably had it 8 months it is all black and turns the leather black as night.
  5. K-man these are cocobono wood. I really like this stuff and have made a couple of bone folders out of it but I dont have the tools nor work area to try and make my own mauls. As for the interested folks asking about the pricing I would pm BearMan (his forum name) and he can give ya a price breakdown. I dont want to quote a price that may fluctuate due to supply prices or anything else. Time for making, once he got the wood in not too long at all, less then a week for this set. Im sure that could vary depending on his work load, life commitments, the moon...... but all in all he was very quick for a custom made item and had excellent communication.
  6. Well couldnt resist and ordered a set of mauls from Ed. They are getting shipped out today but figured I would go ahead and post pics of them to show them off. I am very pleased with how they look and cant wait to try them out. Im sure Ill be very pleased with them. For anyone interested the price is very reasonable as well. Heres some eye candy.
  7. Great looking case, very well made.
  8. The rapid or double cap rivets can be pretty darn strong if set properly, I have a hell of a time being consistent with them but once set correctly it takes a bear to pull them apart. The copper rivets are without a doubt about the strongest you can get for leather work. Youll probably tear thru the leather before them come undone. There are what you would call industrial rivets for metal working and such however you wouldnt be able to set them in leather very easily if at all.
  9. Very nicely done. That vinegaroon looks really good, looks like ya got your mix going good. Im doing my seat in vinegaroon and so far its turing out nicely, ofcourse the lacing isnt that good lol. Thatll take some more practice on my part.
  10. Very well done, excellent use of colors.
  11. THat is very cool looking. I really like the carving. The horn ends are a excellent idea as well. It really gives it that olden time feel to it. Good looking boots as well.
  12. Nicely done, looks great overall and that lacing is excellent.
  13. Looks great man, goes very well with the bike.
  14. Welcome and good looking work. I like how you implemented the skulls and sheridan style. Actually seemed to make it work properly.
  15. It does have a sun tan in areas so maybe getting the whole thing in the sun for a bit will even it out maybe. Over all its not too bad depending on what your gonna use it for from what I can see in the pics. Alot of it looks very usable. Ofcourse it depends on what you paid for it also.
  16. Looks great for a first attempt. Interesting idea for sure. Thanks for posting the finished product.
  17. Nicely done, turned out very good.
  18. Thats cool, is that a homemade bow you have there as well. Nice looking quiver. Ive gotta get back out to the range, they have a nice walkaround area where you shoot thru variouse conditions at variouse distances and its very fun. Good exercise as well.
  19. Great looking belt and good concept. One thing I did notice was that the part that you fold over for the buckle looks like it allmost started cracking. Are you getting that portion pretty wet before you fold it over?
  20. Well this will take some getting use too lol. Just wanted to add a couple of things I saw that Im not sure if they are bugs or not. On FF it seems to work pretty good but the PM's which you allready know about arent there. On IE8 which I primarily use lots of the post have a long dead space which makes it impossible to scroll down with the mouse wheel like I normally do. It doesnt do it in FF just IE8.
  21. That should be fine to have them split it, its free and thats how they get the different weights. Wouldnt be no different then if you ordered different weights from someone else. Good luck with your project. Oh and remember my way of doing it is only one of a thousand or so. Find what works for you and I recommend reading how everyone else does it then piece together your own way or a combination of all of them, thats pretty much how Ive learned.
  22. WandC does have some nice leather but as we all know every piece will be different and even different portions of the same side will oil and dye differently. Personally I would cut the pieces out, case them then slick them real good. This tends to help even them out a bit. You may need to cut a larger piece, wet and slick, then cut out your pattern as this will stretch the leather some but should help even it out. Once this is done I would oil before I did the conditioner. I like to oil, let sit over night, then condition it with lexol or bick4 then let that sit for a few hours then seal it up.
  23. Thats some good looking stuff Rawhide. Not sure of anything I could critique on it. The only thing Im not sure if I like is the red border. But thats more personal preference rather then something that is artistically incorrect or however you would say. The leather work is outstanding though.
  24. You do some amazing work and allways love checking out your work. As far as eco flow havnt really tried it yet. I dont know if I will. One thing though is how does it hold up to outside usage in not so pleasant conditions? Things like rifle slings, seats, holsters, stuff like that.
