  1. I had 2 happy days when I had my Boss, the day it was delevered and the day I sold it...
  2. What kind of applicator are you useing? I found the best is a wet sponge, be sure to work it in real good. I have found the Tan Koke to be a very good all around finish to most leather goods and have used it for years. I have not had any problems with streaking.
  3. Weaver Leather makes some really nice ones that are not too expensive, I have a full set of the round punches, oval, bag and pointed end belt cutters, Did not buy them all at once but have gotten them over the years, really like them all. But with everything the price has gone up and are a little pricy these days.
  4. I bought one from him in Sheridan some years back, At first it seemed like a really good knife but then had a hard time keeping and edge. I put it under the magnifer and found that the colbalt steel was chipping making it hard to keep sharp. These very very small chips were hard to work out and it was a real maintance nightmare to keep sharp, sold it on ebay about a year after I got it. Someone else may have had better luck with one than me. Randy
  5. I have one that I have been using for a year or so now. I use regular carpet knife blades. I take them and break them in 1/2 so there is not a sharp edge sticking out. It seams to work very good for the price, I have no complaints other than you have to be very carful with the blades sticking out. Randy
  6. If you are wanting something like vinal plastic sheets you can get that at most sewing material shops. It is what I use for the clear window in wallets insides. You can get it in several weights and thickness. comes my the yard or foot off a 48" roll.
  7. Snap setters, Rivit setters Unless you want to start tooling you have a good list started. Randy
  8. When you call them to order, just tell them what you are using it for and they will pick you out a nice clean side. They have for me and I have never been disapointed. They are geat folks to work with and customer serive is tops. I rarley order from anyone else these days. RC
  9. Barry King can fix you right up with what you need. He has a web site but If I was you I would give him a call and explain what you are wanting to do. He is one of the good guys and will help you out. RC
  10. There are two sides to every story and you have just heard one of them.
  11. I am doing an event where I will be setting up as a vendor, they require a 1M$ liability insurance policy. This is seperate from my product liablity that I have as a rider on my home owners policy. I have spoken with my agent and he is trying to get a quote but suggested looking at someone in the trade industry that my write for leather workers, I have looked in Shop Talk and the LC&SJ but have found no adds for insurance. If someone has knowledge of where or who to contact for such a policy I would like to hear from you. MP me if you like, Corneliusaddlery@yahoo.com Thanks Randy
  12. Would suggest you contact Springfield leather, they are the closest supplier that has a full line, great products, great customer service and fast shipping that is reasonable.
  13. Bill Gomer asked that I post some art work that he has for sale. The first one is a Moose picture, embossed and hand painted by Bill. It is professionally framed and the art work measures 16 X 20. The indian is also embossed, hand painted and will be framed also, the art work measures 11 X 14. If you know someone who maybe interested please have them call Bill direct at 785-442-3048. I can tell you that the pictures do not do them justice. They are really very nice pices, if you know Bill's work you know what I am talking about. I think the Moose is some of his best work. He really could use the money right now. I have high res pictures that I can email to anyone who is interested. Just send me a pm. I am just posting these for Bill, Call him for prices.. Randy
  14. I will have them send me the split once in a while. I use it to make leather belts for my 4x36 belt sander. I then put rouge on it and have a power strop for stroping my knives. That is about the only use I have found for the splits. RC
  15. Weaver Leather makes a comerical product called, "Leather Stiffner" I have used it and had average results. Not sure what's in it but it is clear and buy it by the gallon. I use it on molded items. RC
  16. You can get the Weaver Knife direct from Weaver Leather. You have to have a tax id number or wholesale account to buy from them. If you don't, one of the forum members can order it for you. If interested I will also just send me a pm and I will get you a price quote. Just seen you are from Europe, that may make the price not so atractive. Not sure about shipping to europe. Randy
  17. Really tilt the blade back when doing tight turns. It also helps to add a little soap to your casing solution. It will help the blade glide through the leather. All the above tips are good.
  18. Also you may want to check the bobbin tension. It shows how in the manual and the video. there is a small set screw that locks the adjustment screw. I have mine set almost as tight as it will go and it seems to work for just about everything. Then I can us the top tension ajusters to fine tune it. rc
  19. Have you tried Springfield Leather?
  20. You can case your leather real good with your casing solution, then apply a few drops of Lexol and a few drops baby shampoo, that will help the knife slide through.
  21. I have cut 10' riens out of a 8 ' hide before, round off the but end of the hide so that when you cut you will cut straight down the hide and then around the but. Hard to explain with out a picture. Not sure how you would get 15 without splicing the strips together. I made some 20 and 30' tracking leads for dog handlers and that is how I do it. You will have to taper both ends and glue and sew the ends together to make long leads. Hope this helps. Randy
  22. When I was still in school, I was riding horses with my dad who was a cowboy in his own right. I loved to ride and basicly grew up on the back of a horse. I cannot ever remember not having all kinds of horses around as my dad was a breeder and a trainer. So I asked him one day, Do you recon there are horses in heaven? My dad said he did not know for sure but if there were'nt he didn't want to go there. I feel the same way. Horses are my theripest. They will listen to me when no one else will... Good topic. Randy
  23. "There is nothing so good for the inside of a man, as the outside of a horse,,,,,Will Rogers.. I want that on my stone someday when I am laid to rest. Randy
  24. I had the same problem, finding someone who was reliable, would return phone calls or I could afford. I finally went to my local high school who has classes on web design and who look for work for the students. I have been with them for over a year now and are very pleased. Quick service, affordable and I own the rights to everything. So I would suggest contacting you local high school IT teacher. Randy
  25. I personally have been dealing with Steve from Cobera for several years, starting when he worked for Artisen. He has always been very helpful and willing to bend over backwards to work with me. I have also heard the same about Cowboy dealer also. Steve goes to all the leather shows and is available to chit chat with about the machines and pick his brain. Have never seen Cowboy at any of the shows. I think you would be good going with either.
