  1. My daughter just recently purchased a new (to her) saddle. She is in the process of cleaning it since it's been stored in a barn for quite a while. I told her to use saddle soap to clean it but she said that the dirt just keeps coming off. She stopped cleaning since she was exhausted, oiled it and went to bed. My question is; is there a better method of cleaning the saddle treating the leather. She's not afraid of hard work but I thought I'd reach out and see if anyone had any suggestions. I've attached a few pictures.
  2. Thank you sir! It's more than what I've ever had. Frank
  3. I've seen belts for a long time with a liner, what is the liner consist of. I've done a lot of searches and I couldn't find anything. I have 2 belts to make, 1 for my son who's leaving the Army soon and 1 for myself.

    Yeti Wrap

I finally finished my Yeti wrap. Found the plans in Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal.
  5. I was planning on dyeing it all black, the tooling an antique mahogany and the lettering an orange (my daughter's favorite color). Frank
  6. My daughter owns a horse and I thought I tool a bronc halter blank for him. I finished it (just need to add dye & antique) but for some reason I can't shake the feeling that I could do more. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  7. I finally finished the project. Did it over the weekend at Scout Camp. Gave it to her Sunday and she loves it.
  8. Beautiful work, I want to make one myself.
  9. Nice work; but I've seen that look before, you will not get the appreciation you deserve for your hard work.
  10. To be honest, I did to for a long time. I just watched a bunch of youtube videos, got myself a quality swivel knife and practiced, practiced practiced. I also stopped thinking too much before I made the cuts and more importantly, slowed down and tried not to rush them.
  11. Well progress has been extremely slooooowwwwwwww. For a current empty nester my schedule is amazingly and irritatingly full. Hopefully I can finish this before my daughter turns 25 (she's 21 now).
  12. Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal sells a Bob Park book that goes over the design process step by step. http://www.leathercraftersjournal.com/product.cfm?product=615
  13. This has been in progress for about 18 months; well...I had the kit just didn't do anything to it until last week. It's for my oldest, she picked it out and asked me to do it for her. I hated the tooling pattern that came with it so I made my own. I finished the tooling yesterday, it was a beautiful day but I spent it inside so I could get it done. I hope to complete the finish and assemble it this week (we'll see, I'm a scout leader and have a ton of work to get done).
