  5. @Mijo....I just stamp my maker's mark and lace it to the project before I ship it out. It is a nice touch to keep everything leather.
  6. I use the bellies for coaster and small pouches, key chains and product tags. Certain bellies are running from $8 to $22 depending on the status of the leather. If you cannot use it, try to sell them on here or eBay to recoup the costs back to help you move forward. Good luck
  7. I use wine bottle corks on my awls to prevent the issue you are stating. I did have an awl recently break and I think that I will grind it down to a shorter length to see what happens. Either way, the cork works well because can be removed as needed. So, bottoms up!
  8. Welcome to the forum and thank you for your service!

  10. I will not repeat the good information already shared. I will tell you what I have and use in my little shop of horrors. I have a 250 grit King stone to remove heavy metal. I then jump to a 600 grit, 800 grit, 1000 grit, 1200 grit, 4000 grit and finally an 8000 grit stone. These are all water stones so there is no oil mess to deal with at the end. Now, there are stones that go much higher than 8000 grit, but at this height you are pretty much washing out the use of green rouge for stropping. I recently started switching out my King water stones for DMT Diamond stones. The best benefit that I found has been that I do not need to pre-soak the stone or re-level them when they cup after repeated use. I have also purchased a 1"x30" belt sander. I found a US supplier for AO belts ranging from 80 grit up to 1200 grit and a leather stropping belt. The same company has available an attachment that can lock in angles for certain sharpening of specific tools. I have tried this setup on my older dull kitchen knives (don't tell the wife) and it has work out better than expected. I have cut my fingers more then once in the kitchen by just touching the blade. Finally, I have not had much luck with any type of files. With my "V" groover (hand tool adjustable?), I sharpen it by hand to include my "U" groover. You just have to do it carefully at a higher grit to prevent ruining the angle. Just food for thought. Take everything you read here and play with what you have and learn. Good luck and Happy New Year!

  12. I also use Masters in the white can. I get my supply from Sheridan Outfitter's. I switched after using the Duval 88 and Tandy's old stuff ran out. I have really happy with the use. I would also second the Thinner. There is a good video on Springfield Leather's YouTube site regarding adhesives. I shared it on my Facebook with my followers. I have also used Weldwood only because I found a gallon for 6 bucks at Home Depot on the Clearance rack. It worked alright for me. I guess I may have not used it right? Anyways.....report back what you found and how it works for you! Happy New Year!

  14. Never mix Oil & Water! I really like the new professional water stains and would use equal products for finishing. They do have a matted finish product. I mostly use the Fiebing's product and I have found that Bag or Tan Kote will usually give me a low sheen finish especially if I very lightly buff it after it completely dries. Now, I am not sure of the Deglazer saving your project. Good luck and let us know what happens. Sorry!

  17. Welcome to the forum Hunter and Merry Christmas to you!
  18. My gallon will separate and thicken, but I just give it a good shake and it will mix and loosen up a bit. I will also lightly case my leather before applying the Tan or Bag Kote. This will usually not leave any streak marks.
  19. I know that Texas Custom Dies made one for another local leather artist. Give Heather a call 817-832-3897
