  1. Great work for your first time! I like the nail idea though I tend to use large paper clips or thick string as temporary clips. I did have an older briefcase that had magnetic closure and found over time that they gave out and had to replace them with Line 24 snaps. Keep it up and Welcome to the forum!
  2. Nice working blog.....Welcome to the forum!

  4. Oh....good one. I know that is came up before and it was documented somewhere but I cannot remember where is right now. Let me take a look and see if I can find it again.
  5. The problem that I found with the pony you referred to in the prior post is that the thread WILL get stuck on that tightening knob, trust me! I am working on some new designs. Good luck with your endeavors!

    Hello

    Welcome to the forum Patricia!
  7. Actually there a a new company that has started to publish a series of new books on Japanese leather carving with inspiration from American Leather carving primarily from the Sheridan influence. These books are pretty thorough and though in the native language they have probably 3 times the amount of pictures explaining the process then another book that I have seen. The publisher is a Japanese company called Studio Tac. How do I know, well, I happen to own about 12 books from this publisher that i have collected over the past two years. There is probably another 12 that I am missing or have no desire to purchase due to the subject. To help you do some research, here are a few spots where you can look at the books or start your collection. * www.goodsjapan.com * eBay seller: CharmingBabe ~ She is selling the Chinese translated version of these books. * Craft Japan * Seiwa Company There is one more company, but I cannot remember it right now. Old age. Good luck! Sam

  9. Since I am not in leather business, I usually will buy what I can at the time. Occasionally, if I have an odd shape or piece that I need that is thicker than I want. I use my small Tandy 4" bench skiver. Now, most people will knock this skiver down and I was ready to throw it away or sell it when a friend suggested that I sharpen the blade. I did and mounted it back on and now it work like a charm without much effort all the way up to skirting leather that I bought from a member on here. I probably do not use it as often as those who have already commented, but it works for me.
  10. For that price you can make a 12 ton & 20 ton press converted. My recent press conversion was less than $200. Good luck on your decision.
  11. Check out Steve at Cobra Leather Machines. He is a sponsor on this site.
  12. Do you think you can get them in a large Flat Rate box? Maybe two? I pay for the shipping. These will more like go to our leather guild library for our members. I appreciate your generous offer. Thanks.
  13. Looks pretty awesome....I have made some leather valets for family and friends, but nothing as elaborate as your design. Bravo!
  14. Congratulations and welcome to the forum!
  15. Happy New Year Bruce! I just love your leather tools site.....Wow!
  16. I use everything suggested. You can also apply some Gum Trag to the interior of your veg tan and take a glass slicker. Work the Gum Trag from the center out and it should slick down the fibers. It should produce a nice smooth surface. I do this to my belts when the customer does not want to pay extra for a liner. Keeps the costs down.
  17. Congrats and enjoy your new found present!
  18. Try applying a small amount of water to the side you are skiving. Let it soak in and strop your knife before going at it.
  19. Welcome to the forum Anna! Happy New Year greetings from Central Texas!
