  4. I got into the habit of using a lot of index cards for notes, sketches, lists and whatever. Decided to come up with something to hold them in. Same approach as my business card cases but much bigger. Plus a newly configured design.
  5. NEEDS A BEER!?! Bloody hell...you need a Darwin Stubby! I've had me Victoria Bitters and a Fosters Lager or two. Swilled down Jackaroo Juice until I couldn't see. But when it's time to get really pissed it's an ice cold Stubby for me.

Banjo Patterson eat your heart out!! LOL!

  6. Nice first commission Katie!!! You did a super job on this one. I also like the architectural scale that it holds. I have a feeling you are going to get some more work after this one. You did a great job on the Basket Weave and I like the color. Storm
  7. These boots are beautiful and unique. I also love them as they look like they are very well made and should last a long time. I would love to come up with somehing like that but incorporate my love of carving leather and even some pyrography and color too. They are wonderful! Now you need to model them and pick out a cool outfit to go along with your new illustrated boots. You should treasure these boots. Storm
  8. Nice original idea. Never saw anyone every come up with this idea. Alright! Storm

  11. You might want to think about acrylic paints for the coloring. You don't have to use Cova dyes. I use regular acrylics and mix my own colors. I is a lot cheaper and just as good. I am attaching some old color flash samples and so forth to give you an idea on the old school colors. You might want to practice walking your beveling tool. It will give you a smoother more even look. Hope this helps, Storm
  12. Bevan No kind words were needed. Those are for people who's work is marginal and you don't want to hurt their feelings. Your work on the other hand is bloody marvelous. Storm
  13. You have some very handsome whips here. I used to live in the Northen Territory and I must confess an attraction for your stock whips. Lovely pieces!! Storm
  14. Don't worry as it is not just a problem in the Netherlands. LOL! My experience has more times than not shown that people want the finer things in life but do not wish to pay for them. Which is true here in the USA and Australia and many places. Happieness is not the destination but the road on which we walk. It pays sometimes but I just do it for the pleasure of being able to. Silly right?

  15. My Friend! This is a beautiful piece of work. Very clean and definetly your work. You have a unique style. мой друг! Это прекрасная работа. Очень чистые и, безусловно, ваша работа. У вас есть уникальный стиль. Storm
  16. Mark, All in all a very nice piece of work. There were be only one thing to try and work on and that is burnishing the edges. Check out Bob Park's tutorial. He is a very accomplished and well rounded leather craftsman and it is a good bit of info. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=18101 Great piece though!!! Storm
  17. Thank you everyone for the kind words but we should also thank Arbalet12 for finding the original image upon which I based the pattern. Storm
  18. Hey Tim, Nice! Your son's friend must really be into Oregano. Doubtless one of the better herbs. I really love the roses. For me if you aren't there then I would have to say that the rose down front and center is awfully close. Storm
  19. Easy peazy! Take the scanned image into Photoshop. Expand the size of your canvas to a little more the twice the width of the first. Now drag and copy the first image over and flip it. Bring them together. Crop off the excess on the side. Now figure out how big you want the finished size to be and go into image and resize the entire thing. If the finished image is too big for your printer then cut it in half and print the two halves out seperately. You will then have matching flipped images that are exactly the same size. You will have to retrace but the end result should be better. What I usually do is the same thing but with my tracing paper sketches and drawings. Get it all together before going into tracing on film. Used to have access to a large laser jet that would take a double matter mylar. That was sweet. From Photoshop straight to tracing film.
  20. Turkigibliti non carborundum-Don't let the turkey grind you down. Next time the bird can get stuffed and you can lace here closed! LOL!
  21. I have never had much luck getting anywhere hand stitching in the normal manner. For one thing I always wanted a sit down stitching pony and not that inane flimsy thing that Tandy tries to sell people. And most are a little rich for my blood. All of my hand stitching is done using a three point 3/32" thonging chisel. Look at this one. http://www.tandyleat...ature=Product_5 I have modify to increase sharpness using a Dremel tool but using a three prong and a single prong gets it done for me at this point. Of course going down so small, as in the case of a watch band, does require the traditional approach or a machine. My own opinion is that those four prongs are totally too big. They leave a hole big enough to drive a freight train through.
  22. I have seen and held both the new Damascus and the Al Stohlman round knives. The new one is impressive but I will have to concur with what some have said. I have my doubts about whether or not it is a true Damascus stell blade. The way Tandy has been operating of late I would suspect if it was really the case. Besides a truely well made Damascus knife would be very pricey. I gravitate toward the Al Stohlman but even here we find that most of them have exposed brass pins in the handle that rise noticeably above the surface of the handle itself. Good steel and craftsmanship coupled with some sort of decent quality control is what we need to see. I would rather buy a high end Gomph for twice the money knowing that I was getting top drawer. Remember the old horse traders admonition: "You never remember the price you paid for a very fine horse and you will never forget the price you paid for a bad one!" Oh Ya and there is always Caveat Emptor....Let the buyer beware!
  23. If you would like I can send you the pattern I created from the little image arbalet had. Then you could try inverting it. Just send me an email. Storm
  24. Hi Ganonymous, No need to be confused. I used to use the same sort of technique doing watercolor illustrations and paintings. In the case of the tulips I wanted the flowers to remain the same color as the untouched leather. So I carefully brush on the Super Shene and coat the petals and anything else I don't want to have dyed. I usually put two to three coats on and let it dry thoroughly. Then apply your dye and when you wipe it off the coated(Blocked) parts should remain the same color pretty much. My recent skull and roses used the same technique. That is why the roses appear so glossy. That is also due to my scanning he art into the computer. Hope that this helps. Storm
  25. Dave....This seat is top notch and ought to turn a whole lot of heads. Primo lacing too! Storm
