  1. From the album: My Creations

Moved to real gold leaf, boy it's pretty... 8oz leather 4 1/2", hand carved Bitcoin wall decoration
  2. Last time I made a batch I boiled the resulting liquid down to a dark almost black syrup then added Isopropyl alcohol to it for bottling. It does still make a lighter shade of walnut compared to the Fiebing's Walnut Dye.
  3. From the album: My Creations

About 8"x10" More fun with gilding
  4. From the album: My Creations

    Oops...

    From the album: My Creations

The first shoe upper I've ever tried making and my knife slipped, cutting straight through the topline. Devastating mistake!
  7. If you apply liberal amounts of paint to the lettering depressions then wipe the excess away with a square sponge or towel on a block, it leaves paint in the depression. Similar to applying antiquing paste.
  8. From the album: My Creations

Found a free pattern online and decided to try it :)
  9. That tumbling is quite different to the milled leather I've purchased. Gives it a much more distressed look to me.
  10. It's the first time I hear of tumbling to soften leather! Could you take a picture of the finish?
  11. You could always re-dye the belt black if it bothers you
  12. Yes, this is common practice. Nothing wrong with the construction of this belt.
  13. We should probably set it up on the "dark web"
  14. Will Ghormley uses a water based rust tank to make grey to black leather: http://www.willghormley-maker.com/MakingHOGRig.html (scroll down) Probably smells much less...
  15. I totally want to make myself a pair of shoes now... Can you share titles and authors off the old books you have!?
  16. Those period buckle clips are very hard to find indeed! Do you know someone who can fabricate it from a small piece of brass sheet such as a silversmith or jeweler? Anyone who works metal should be able to do this for you.
  17. Do you know the IMHO, For hunting, antiqued/darkened solid brass is so ideal! Acetone / liver of sulfur / oven. Kills the flash - a hunter can spook prey with a small flash of reflected light. For show? Shiny solid brass. If they wanted to polish the brass they could bring it back to a high shine with some Brasso... And if you can, get the buckles stamped "solid" - cause I guarantee the customer will see that Afterthought: you could also look into nickel "fuming" with vinegar - darkens the nickel hardware.
