S&W Model 10 holster
alpha2 replied to alpha2's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The antique is Fiebings Dark Brown Antique Finish and the stain is Eco-Flo Saddle Tan. I keep thinking I should do something a little darker, but I just love Saddle Tan. I did a couple of applications to darken it just a bit. This is my second holster, and I learned A LOT from the first one! -

I picked up one at the Black Friday sale too! Couldn't pass up the price. I, also, have found that it is something that will replace a few other blades. Still working on the edge, but it's been an amazing addition to the tool collection. Now I can see that I need a larger one. I'm NOT surprise that happened. One tool ALWAYS leads to another...hence my purchase of a French skiver and size 0 edge beveler today. I got the beveler home, and realized that I also need a size 1...and 00. And a wider French skiver. Oh, my, I'm seeing a pattern here.

WooHoo, we have picture! Glad you kept at it. Nice strap.

I see it's a kit for the barbed wire stamps. They don't have it at any of my local Tandy stores, so I'll have to order it. Thanks for the info!

Nice! Where did you get the barbed wire stamp?

The thing that led me astray as a newbie was Tandy Leather videos where they said again and again that casing was done by saturating the top surface with a wet sponge, then waiting until it almost returned to the original color. That may work for some thin leathers in small sizes, but it's a far cry from the proper way to "case" leather. I finally know why I wasn't getting consistent depth and color to my stamping. I can't wait until I use this method for my next project!

I have noticed that the depth of the stitch groove can straighten out the stitches. All that effort, and the groove straightens it out. Bummed. (It also has to do with the ratio of thread size to stitch groove.)

Black Rose SAA holster

I'm kind of at the same stage as you. I've found that with the fern and vine stuff, less is more, and be sure to angle the veiner tool just a bit more than you think you need to. Good looking holster! -
Nice! When you can get the 3D effect that way, you're way ahead of the competition.

The skyscraper of tool racks! Great idea going vertical. Tabletop real estate is very hard to come by, and easy to use up. I believe there is one of those in my future.

OMG! Thanks, I thought I was the only one. Feeling much better about myself now.
