  1. It is the real thin pig skin, I am guessing 1 to 2 oz. Thicker would work if it is a straight through printer. You need to treat it after wards with several light spray coats of neat lack or similar product.
  2. A few years ago I accidentally drop a piece of thin pig skin in my ink jet printer and WOW I was so impressed. I had been sublimating on leather for years but never thought about running it through the printer. Now I have figured out how to run it through my wide format ink jet to make pillows etc.... Two things I learn after playing with it for a while. If it is a straight through printer just make sure it is ironed flat,I heat them flat on my t-shirt printing press. If it is a roll through you may want to heat it to a sheet of butcher paper, wax side. This makes it a little stiffer. Use the setting on the printer for transfers, or card stock. You could use this technique to make inserts for wallets, boxes, even yoke for coats. not sure it this had been discussed on the site or not, but always happy passing on my years of doing the unusual with leather. 3. I am new here an not sure if this link has been posted before, even if it has, it is a wonderful sight for designs to use for leather, laser, wood carving..... Patterns Whoops I already see some one has posted these, sorry about that, but it is worth a look again. 4. LOL, I come from a working cattle ranch, so the smell is nothing to me, just smells like branding time! The laser's are available for around $10,000, cheaper if you get a foreign model but I don't know the quality of them. If you buy used make sure to check out the amount of Co2 left in it. Watch them work at Laser Working I love my laser, couldn't live with out it, even for my own craft projects. i put a small pumkin in the rotary attachment the other, wow did that turn out neat and smelled so much better then the hair, LOL
  5. Here is a couple pictures of what I mostly do with leather. The horses are laser engraved into the hair on hide, lines around the edges are also lasered. The bread box is all hair on hide but the canisters are hair on just front & top, smooth sides & back. I use old bread boxes & canisters I pick up at yard sales, etc. Recycle-GO GREEN!

  10. Wenell & Friltz is the same thing, both are very good. Brasso, all it is is bleach, it takes the color out but doesn't actual take the oils off the brass, that's why it is quick, but tarnish comes back rather fast. After you polish real well, wax it with a carnauba car wax. This will keep the moisture from the air & oils from your hands off it for aprox a year. This is a quote I use to have printed on my busniness cards when I had a brass shop, it works! Kathy
  11. Chris, the corset is beautiful, love it. I would love to see more of your work. Good luck in finishing school, I give you an A+ Your English is as good as some of us that live here, LOL! (laugh out loud) Kathy

  13. Here is a good cheap place for the horns. Powderhorns
  14. I score mine with the laser cutter, actually burns the edges quit nicely also. But because of the fibers of leather it is hard to cut all the way through with out using to much heat and flaring the edges. That's why I just score it then use a new blade in the excato knife. It has a nice line to follow an the knife stays in the lines. Ok so not every one has a laser, but it is getting more common. LOL
  15. That's what I do for a living. what would you like to know, I don't mind sharing my knowledge at all. Kathy
