  1. Thank you! Reading the forum here helped a lot! No, not lined. Wasn't ready for that just yet ; ) and the leather was nicely finished on the flesh side as is
  2. What weight is the chrome leather? I'm a complete novice at round handles, but just did these on my first bag (thanks to tutorial by Nigel Armitage). No laser cutters or fancy skiving machines , just my head knife to thin out the ends. Leather was 4-5 oz Horween Essex. If your chrome leather is too thin, could you line the end with either the same leather or another thin leather?
  3. Thank you so much! Appreciate the kind words! Hubby is definitely happy thank you!
  4. Wow, looks great! Must've taken a ton of work!
  5. Ha! It's amazing what Scotch evens out Wow, thank you! Was definitely motivated by the work people share here, there's some amazing talent out there! Thank you!! Now I just need to make one for myself
  6. Why thank ya! The zipper wasn't too bad (though I did say a few choice words trying to get it straight). Used double sided basting tape, and a super long zipper so I could unzip it far enough to stitch one side at a time in the pony. And a couple of stiff scotches
  7. Nice! I like the contrast of the green thread. Is the iPhone case just one of those soft, generic ones?
  8. Nice work, love the water bottle holder, and great to be able to recycle the old belt
  9. Thank you so much! Thanks! And my husband says yes, he definitely likes the bag (he's a smart hubby ) Really appreciate the feedback! The edge tint is the natural internal leather color from the 'Parisian Blue' finish; hubby likes a more 'natural' look, so after some experimentation just used a little tokonole and beeswax. Thanks, too, for all the info you share, couldn't have made it without the amazing knowledge shared on this forum.
  10. Thank you! Really loved working with that leather, shaped up beautifully, without being too soft. Thanks mate! Yeah they're a little worn out lol.
  11. Thank you! The bag gave me plenty of practice, still so much to learn. Appreciate your comments, DJole! Certainly felt like a marathon!
  12. Thanks, Leah! I tried to make the lanyard long enough that you can have your keys clipped on, but still reach a door to unlock (~16 inches). I'd say all in probably around 30-40 hours, including drafting the pattern. My stitching got a little faster as I progressed, and I think the next one might would maybe take less time (I also did some experimenting with my edge treatment along the way, which took up time). Thank you so much for your kind words, TSes, really appreciate it.
  13. Thanks so much, Ron, much appreciated! I used a stitching iron, and hammered it the full way through, so only had to use the diamond awl in a few spots. I'm indebted to Nigel Armitage's excellent YouTube video on making the rounds; I made the stitching holes exactly the same on both sides, then pulled them together over a paracord inner core, not using any glue. The zipper was a pain, did it flat which helped a bit. Would love to see some photos of the rounds on your horse gear I did design the pattern myself. Had to make sure the dimensions fit my husband's Harley Streetglide saddlebag + his laptop . More than happy to share the pattern if you like, although it's drawn on card stock, not digital. Thanks! The Horween is definitely a lovely leather to work with.
  14. My first ever bag! Horween Essex leather (4-5oz) in Parisian Blue (thanks @nstarleather!), with hardware from the buckleguy, hand stitched with 0.8mm Tiger thread in dark grey. Unlined, but has an internal pocket and a key lanyard braided from 4mm kangaroo lace. And several callouses on my fingers now
  15. Good news!!! Hope they arrive soon!
  16. Hmmmm.... I do like your logic.... Might have to try that one as well!
  17. Yeah, I feel like I could get arrested for carrying the bevel point already cut the stitching on the sheath when I pulled it out the first time lol why have one when you can have two!?! I'm thinking about trying to convince hubby that collecting all of the knip knives is a valid investment....
  18. Hejsa! Thanks! Pretty simple, beveled the cut edges, sanded with a 3M sanding block, then some tokenole edging medium from Japan, burnished using a wood burnisher on my Dremel, sanded with very fine wet&dry, reburnish then a bit of beeswax and hand burnished with cotton canvas. Sounds like more work than it actually was lol Thank you so much!
  19. Yeah, these took about three months, but well worth the wait. Geargarcon kindly supplied a French model, which has been great, too (the trailing points are perfect for tight inside corner cuts) The rosebud is a little smaller, although the photo distorts the size a bit. I think it'll be handy for skiving and more delicate work.
  20. Thanks! Been trying to practice on smaller pieces like these, for my less-discerning family members
  21. So, my shiny new toys arrived today!!!! Texas Rosebud and bevel point knife. Many thanks to Terry for his amazing work and dedication to the craft. And yes, they are scary sharp. Super glue + bandaids on hand.
  22. Working on a bag for hubby at the moment, but took a brief diversion to make an iPad Mini 4 case for my mum ❤️ Horween Essex, 0.6mm tiger thread.
  23. That came up really well! And yes, I do exactly the same as you with my own projects - the flaws always jump out at me lol
