Interesting dye pattern! Nice -
It's definitely cracking some, will take some photos and share! I also need to level out the top from the chainsaw cuts, which I haven't quite got round to yet. Stump's currently sitting in the garage, to the annoyance of hubby

Corsets or mug sleeves?

Sorry it took a while to recover from surgery, really hope you continue to heal well. I grew up in WA, so really appreciate seeing the Aussie Rules and rugby patterns! If you get a chance to share the written instructions on the American / Aussie Rules ones, that would be fantastic. And thanks again for sharing.

My fingers hurt just looking at that! Amazing work, and I think it's a beautiful heirloom piece. Thank you for sharing, it's inspiring to see the skilled work done by others.- 19 replies

And if you take a photo we won't hear the swearing i like the grommets, too. Maybe if you used elastic cord as the lacing, it would fit different sizes? Was thinking about making myself one for all the starbukkers I drink....

Nice! You'll have to post an action shot

Been lurking here a while - advice requested please

Joanns fabrics have a pen that disappears after exposure to air for a while, haven't tried it on leather but that might be worth a shot. I also use tailors chalk to mark the grain side of leather, doesn't last long but usually long enough : ) -
I have a turned, wooden mallet my step-dad made for me years ago, made of Jarrah, an Australian hardwood. The thing is indestructible. Every now and then it gets purloined by hubby for some "percussive engineering" on the Harley...

+1 to Stetson912. I feel your pain - just hand stitched a long zipper for a bag I'm making, and it took bit of fiddling. After the leather edge is folded / bound using glue, I like using double-sided tape (narrow, used specifically for sewing so it doesn't gum up your needles) to hold the zipper in place while getting the positioning right, punch the holes, then clips to hold firmly while you wrangle it around to hand stitch... -
Nice! I like the contrasting colors, and the design of the strap reinforcement on the front.

So, hubby misplaced the first sleeve....here is my second go at the same pattern ; ) -
I've made a few corsets, and some garments from leather. Couple of things to think about will be the weight (thickness) of the leather, how you sew it and how you treat the seams. If it's light leather, on a domestic sewing machine, then I strongly recommend a leather needle, and I generally use tissue paper strips between the presser foot and leather so it doesn't stick. Stitch length is longer than fabric, usually for me ~3.5mm, with a jeans or buttonhole type thread. Double sided tape (make sure it's sewable, i.e. won't gum up your needle) is invaluable for basting. You may be able to lap the seams to cut down bulk, and use the underlying seam allowance to create a channel for the boning, if you're using any. You can iron some leather, just no steam and low-med heat, and especially if it's a metallic, test first on a scrap!!!

Fishing Plier and Cutter Sheath

North East Scuba Supply (online, with physical shop in Norristown, Philly) might have some decent retractors used for dive gear that'll stand up to the salt water. They also stock a great range of assorted stainless steel hardware at very reasonable prices. -

Really nice work, I like the design of the front, curved pocket. -
Really nice work! Depending on the arrow heads, if you do stitch, you might need a welt. If they're just target heads, then probably not as much of an issue. Love the "faster than lightning" boast

Thank you! Thanks! The practice definitely helps, and the Ian Atkinson video is great. I like working on smaller items so there's less to mess up initially ; ) -

Thanks, Brian, much appreciated. I've actually been reading a couple of your posts on edge finishing, so will try and put some of your wisdom into practice
