    Hello

Hi and welcome. Ask anything you like, nice folks here. Cheers, Karl
  2. Beautiful work! Welcome to the board. Karl
  3. Hi Ray, Interesting job, sure enough. I suspect the still-soft stitched scabbard has been placed on a slim former (possibly the sword itself wrapped in greased paper)while the outside was finished. Then the goop, whatever it is, tipped in and swilled about then tipped out and the scabbard left to drip. I'm not saying this is the way it was done, just how I would approach it. Many old glues, based in fish and mammal (horse and cow) proteins, cross-link and form a rigid film after they dry in air. Fish glue goes very stiff and solid. Have you seen a dried fish? like a rock. After the fish glue hardens it can be varnished to protect it from moisture. Dunno............ Cheers, Karl
  4. That's very nice of you, thank you! Cheers, Karl
  5. I've taken an interest in hand-stitching of late, but realised today that I don't have enough hands....... Do any of my friends on the board know where I can find a nice wooden stitching horse or clamp in the UK? Preferably used? I apologise if this is in the wrong place, I didn't really know where to put it. Cheers, Karl
  6. Hi Steve, So, got the posting thing sorted then? Welcome to the board. There are lots of good people here. There are a good few of us from the UK. If you need anything just ask. Cheers, Karl

  8. Yeah, what Pip said. Welcome! karl
  9. I have a heavy Oak 8' by 4' workbench. Self healing mats cover 60% of it. I do all my layout and cutting on this surface. For punching holes and slots, I use a 12" by 16" half inch Polyboard with my granite slab underneath. Solid. Cheers, Karl

    Super strop!

Aww, t'weren't nuthin' ...... I just use the same size string on everything, I used the core of a bootlace. It's strong, but not corded or woven, just loose strings lying together lengthways. I use an automotive chrome polish that comes in a tube. It's called 'Autoglym', but any chrome polish paste should work. They are all fine abrasives. Been a few weeks now and my string is still strung! My edgers have never been sharper. Just put another knot in it when it gets slack, to make the string a bit shorter. Thanks guys, Karl
  18. Bienvenido! Welcome Cocodrilo....... There are many friendly and helpful people here. Please ask about anything you want to know. I'm in England and we have good suppliers here, please let me know if you need help getting anything. Cheers, Karl

  21. Chuck, I'd be delighted to take you up on your offer. Please let me know how much you'd like for the stirrup and shipping and your Paypal details and I'll fire off the funds to you. Thank you very much for helping me with this. Cheers, Karl
  22. Didn't really know where to put this.... Does anyone out there have a spare stirrup? Just the part your foot goes in. I want to put it on the end of a chain to operate the foot-lift on my Pearson. Age, type and condition are unimportant, but it needs to be wide enough to get my size 10 shoe in. I can send funds for the stirrup and shipping by Paypal. Cheers, Karl
