Ruined My First Project!! Or, Help Me Fix It Please:-)
Firewalker replied to MarkInKy's topic in How Do I Do That?
Even better with time! I dig it! To the OP, I would also just roll with it. If you need a pick me up I will show you a properly ruined piece that was going to be dyed a light blue with some USMC black soaked all the way through. I used a dauber to apply it and I wanted it nice and dark. Well...... it turns out that passport wallet needed to be black inside and out. Poof! Lemonade. Nice job on your project! Scott -
I use a craftool as shown above and prefer it over the look of the round holes. Off the top of my head I don't recall the size but it may look large to some people. It was the look I was going for on my belt. Keep in mind you need to be more careful with your alignment when using an oval punch. I still manage to get them off just enough to make me nuts. I think all of us share a certain amount of OCD. All the best! Scott

How do I do this carving coloring?
Firewalker replied to PJCustomLeather's topic in How Do I Do That?
As soon as I saw the question I was thinking about Don Gonzales video about this. I did a wallet using his technique and I believe it was dark brown stain, tan coat everything, antique paste, tan coat to clean off excess... It worked great! I agree, it looks amazing! Cheers Scott -
I agree with Fire in using a base coat of white then going over it with your colors. Some of them build very slowly but I have found that using thin layers and taking my time gives the best results. I am in no way a painter but this is what I came up with using Angelus Paint over a water stain with pearl additive. All the best! Scott

Oh I am sure we could swap war stories for several hours on sissy juice on the shop floor! I had a dandy when I convinced myself I could just hold a disc of rough cut sheet metal in place while I drilled a hole in it on the drill press. "Just right quick" right? No stitches on that one but it took some direct pressure and time. :D Lesson number 19,801 learned the hard way.

Hahahaha! That's good stuff

Knife Sheath for Esee 6
Firewalker replied to Firewalker's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks so much! That was my first attempt at air brushing the edge. It is a USMC Black edge fade over a Burgundy Base. Thanks for the kind words! This particular design only allows for scout carry but I have kicked around a design to allow vertical, vertical dangler or scout. I just haven't worked out anything I am happy with yet. Thanks again. Thanks so much. I appreciate it.- 23 replies

Thank you very much! Hi Ross, I will see if I still have some images of the back side of it. This was stitched by hand. Thank you very much for the compliment.- 23 replies

This is a sheath I enjoy making and it has proven to be efficient design that stays out of the way of a side arm or a backpack. Comments are welcome. Hoping each of you are doing well. Scott

My friend you are doing a whole lot of right! I am certainly not dogging your work as it is beautiful. I too have been trying to finish up late at night and scrapped an entire piece. We live and learn. Try that bevel drag trick and tell me what you think. You can do it with a spoon too if you like. Wishing you all the best. Scott

I think it looks nice. The thread color compliments the leather very well and your stitches are beautiful. The Sheridan tooling looks Fantastic! It looks like the corners have you a hard time which is something I have dealt with as well. It is painful as heck though non leather workers aren't likely to notice it. I have noticed on my own work sometimes the bevel is somewhat choppy around my initials and I simply drag the beveler by hand to smooth it out. I am a believer in the additive for the spray bottle and it helps the tools glide instead of sticking. It helped me tremendously and I won't go back! Please don't take any of this as insulting as your work is beautiful. I think we can all get better by helping each other along the way and honest critique is part of that. I really like that inside flap and I think it is a unique feature I don't normally see. Wishing you the best! Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
