  1. There is a vendor that I talk to every year at the North Texas Irish Festival and his booth is Rev's Armour Werx and his sewing machine is a hand crank that looks kinda like an old Singer but he got his new just a few years ago. I do know that they go for about $750 but after watching how his works I think it's well worth the money. I bet if you shoot off an email to him off his site he'll give you the info you need on how to order one, and maybe send you some pictures of it. Damon
  2. Mink oil maybe? I know that mink makes the leather nice and soft but I don't know if your customer wants a soft sling or a stiff sling. Damon
  3. I just tried my first round braid last night and I'll pass the word on to you before you try it. Keep your work tight. I ended up restarting 3 times before I got the tension more or less consistent. Once the batteries for my camera are through charging I'll post photos for everyone to see. Damon
  4. I saw that your the newest LSLC guild member (got the news letter the other day). Welcome to the group. Hope to see you soon. I'm looking forward to see what you can teach a newbie like me. Damon
  5. I play the Irish whistle, ocarina and every so often a bamboo flute. Sometimes I swipe my boys sax from him for a while when the mood strikes. Damon
  6. Work has let off enough that I can start doing stuff now (ie: I have most of my weekends back) and I'm looking to make myself something similar to http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/home/de...ure=Product_171 and I was wondering where all I should look to get some vinyl approx. 1.5-3 mil. thick. If I have to buy a few yards that's ok but I don't want to have to buy several yards of the stuff. Thanks. Damon

    Copying stuff!

If you have a web browser that stores your username and passwords you might want to jot those down. Damon
  8. I like both of them much better! For the font, I like it, but if you want to look for something a touch more "older" or "western" looking, go for it. Nothing like Times Roman, but maybe something with a little serif to it. Also, with your listing of what you do, you might want to have all of them capitalized or lower case, your first and last don't have capitals while you have the others starting with a capital. Damon
  9. I'd take out one of the pics unless you just want the balance, use your makers mark in place of one of them. If you keep both then I would at least center the text between them (maybe make them double column) and put your makers mark underneath the text but centered on the card. Don't touch the top and bottom, I think those are fine and dandy. Damon
  10. As a whole, I don't really care about the looks of rawhide, but I really like what you did Hushnel. Super great job!
  11. I have a friend whose new husband is a sheep herder outside of Edinburgh, Scotland. I'm going to send this to him to see if he can do better. Funny as heck though Damon
  12. If I'm set up away from my computer, it's whatever is on my ipod. Rob Zombie, Rasputina, Leaves' Eyes, Alice Cooper, you get the idea. If I set up in either the living room or dining room I turn up my computer with www.liveireland.com (the trad. music stream)
  13. I'm not sure about a holster but I can recommend a few rifle slings for it. Hand cannons are smaller than that thing.
  14. What I'm going to do for holding the legs together is tap a 9/16" hex nut with a 3/8" holes on every other side and screw the bolts into the new holes on the nut. I live in an apartment so any kind of welding is a no-no. But thanks for the opinions all! Damon
  15. I'm looking to make myself a stool for work when I have to work on wall plugs and I was wondering if anyone had a pattern to share or tell me the best dimensions for a stool. I know that the pockets for the legs needs to be bigger than the seat piece but by how much? Thanks all, Damon
  16. While I plunking down about $240 at HC this morning and I asked Ron about that and he told me that the new catalog will be ready in 2-3 weeks. They're going through the final layouts & approvals. The new "discontinued items" edition is simply a temporary catalog. And yes they do carry a better quality of hides than Tandy. I also went to Tandy today too and most of the leather that I was looking through had some sort of marring, scratches or holes in them in areas you don't want them to be in. Damon
  17. You can also go to www.kissyoutube.com and enter in the url of the video you want and download it that way also. Then you can get a program called Free FLV Converter that will allow you to convert it to .avi, mpeg-3 & 4, ipod formats and a few others.
  18. Hi all, I'm starting on a cell phone case and I was wondering if it would be better to cut out the pattern before attaching the leather to a backing or going ahead and attaching the leather to the backing, do all my tooling and then cut out the pattern? Thanks
  19. I'm now starting to get the "forbidden" page but I got myself a new computer last weekend and when I installed Firefox I put in a addon that keeps tracking cookies active on accounts that I don't log out of and if I try to log into LW.N without paying attention whether I logged out of the previous session then it has given me forbidden pages if I log in while still logged in. I'm going to keep track of what goes on on my end and report back in a few days to see if I get rejected while doing a legit log in.
  20. If you keep the same motors you have the problem of 3 phase power, unless you already have access to it but I doubt that it's 380v. Otherwise you'll burn that motor up in a heartbeat. I would recommend something along the lines of a VFD because they can control the amount of voltage going through it (you'll have a hard time getting 380v otherwise because it's not a standard 3 phase voltage. Here it's 120/208 & 277/480) so you'll need to check into something that can choke down 480v. I wouldn't recommend a standard motor control because they don't regulate the voltage, they just use what's fed to it and trip off if there's an overload, mainly to start and stop it. If you can the machines are really worth it I would check out about changing the motors
  21. Thanks, now I feel the need to raid the fridge.
  22. Your Odin and his companions looks AWESOME!!!
  23. I was up there on Saturday and picked myself up a 2009 price list (which is what you got, ATX). I asked about if they were going to update their pdf catalog anytime soon and was told that it was currently being worked on. So, keep an eye on their web site for a new catalog soon. Damon
  24. I use to have one until I accidentally broke it. And yes, you have to use a straight blade on it otherwise it won't work worth a
