  1. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I seem to be not seeing something. What is the contact cement being talked about here? Is it rubber cement on steroids (ie: made for the leather industry) that is just bit harder to remove? I ask this because the last "contact cement" that I used was back in my SCA days when I added padding to the inside of my armor and the stuff I used made a permanent bond between the padding (neoprene) and the leather. I know that today, almost 6 years after making my armor, if I tried to take the padding off by any means, heat, water, you name it, that it won't come apart. Thanks for the answers in advance.
  2. What I mean by "rendition" is your interpretation of said item But all of your work there is outstanding. Keep up the good work!
  3. I spoke with Ron at Hidecrafters FT. Worth and he said that the price is still good.
  4. Hidecrafters. I think they still advertise theirs for about $60. I'm going up there in a little while I'll verify that for you.
  5. I was taught to use my wing divider to draw out the width of my border an take my knife to it. The down side to the Tandy border tool is that you cannot use it with an angled blade, it must be a straight blade. It wobbles around too much otherwise.
  6. I bought it at a renfaire about 10 years ago, way before I got into leather. If I had to guess I would say that it's made out of 6oz leather, It's not suede, the maker just put the flesh side out. I must say that it's good quality leather because I've worn it through several Texas thunderstorms with no shrinking, or at least not enough for me to notice. Because of this thread I'm thinking about making a pattern from it, with some changes, and make myself one for everyday wear. Here are the measurements of what I have: Brim 14"x16" - inside opening- 7"x 8 3/4" Height 3 3/4 + seam allowance with a circumference (top) of 23" + seam allowance
  7. Here you go. Thanks for being patient everyone. I put them on my MySpace account because of the size of the photos. My leather photos Damon
  8. What kind of sword it it? Rapier, broadsword, long sword? Have you tried the V & A Museum in London? I know a few SCA people who have gone to/contacted them with questions and the V & A helps them out to the best of their ability. Maybe they have something similar to what your trying to make and maybe give you some pointer on how it could be made.
  9. Sorry, sorry, sorry ..... It's actually sitting on my desk right now. I've just been working out in the gas fields quite a bit lately (50+ hrs./wk) and not getting home till late hasn't helped much, like now, I just got home from school. I'll do my best to have them up tomorrow. It's actually a very simple, 3 pieces plus the hat band. Damon
  10. I have a stitching awl from Tandy and I like it well enough to keep using it. I does take a few minutes of practice to get the tension down but after stitching a few projects the tension becomes second nature, I don't even worry about it any more. I've stitched up a couple of wallets with it and they look good despite the amount of abuse they take at work, the stitching is still good and tight. But I'm starting to get to the point where I don't want to do chain stitches and want to expand my skills. Try it, you might like it.
  11. I know that a few of you are on the FLASAH Yahoo group and they have contests every few months. LW.N could do that, with or without prizes, and the winners piece could be placed in the "gallery of the uber cool". Maybe have a couple of contest a year an open theme and then have a couple theme based.

    Rune set

It depends on the flavor of runes. If you ordered the elder futhark set then there is 24 runes, if you ordered the younger futhark then there is only 16 You might want to file a claim.
  13. If anyone wants I'll post photos of my cavalier hat that I have. I'll try to get some good photos so anyone who wants to try engineer their own I can have photos ready by Saturday afternoon for everyone.
  14. I like it! Being trained for first aid for work, if I had to respond to someone having a problem something like what you made would get my attention long before the small little necklaces or bracelets, and I do look for them on people that I work with. Keep it up!
  15. I'm an electrician who work comercial and industrial sites. I'm currently working at natural gas wells right now.....and until further notice.......
  16. Another thing to consider is how much weight will it be expected to hold. My tool belt has a pouch for each hip and when it's loaded it's good 15-20 lbs., and I still carry 2 more tool bags-o-stuff. I would see about finding the lightest leather that will work with the amount of weight that it will be expected to hold and don't be afraid to use rivets at the stress points, I would say that those are a must. If you are looking to purchase a pattern you could try Bighousedaddy Leather. I haven't bought any of his patterns yet but I know that he does have a tool pouch pattern.
  17. I just checked it out and now I like what they did to the site. Kudos to the designers
  18. I find it a pain to use in general. Sometimes pages don't load right, if they do load. And the pages have seem to slow my computer down big time. Gives me flashbacks to when I had dial-up
  19. Going on mine tours are fun aren't they? When I was a kid my parents took me and my brother to Colorado where we went through a couple of mines they have out there. Sounds like you enjoyed yourself. Thanks for sharing.
  20. You didn't step on any toes or anything. I was just wondering. On the lighter side, I'm going to go to a job site next week for a 70 hour week so once I get that paycheck I'm thinking on getting an Osborne round knife and finding someone to teach me how to use it.
  21. Do you think that this knife here would have any use in leathercrafting? Maybe an alternative to a head or round knife? Or does it look like that the blade is too thick?
  22. Thanks. I finally get a day off tomorrow, had to give up my holiday this last week, and I think I'll give this a try. I need a splicing knife for work and I found one that started it life as a straight razor and I need a sheath to put it on my toolbelt. I'll post a picture once I'm done.
  23. I learned that the blue polishing compound that Harbor Freight sells appears to be good to use instead of rouge. I found out about it on my last visit to Hidecrafters and have since found someone else who uses it and told me that he likes the results. It's pretty soft and goes onto the strop real good. Hope this helps.
  24. If you have a Linksys router then the router ip is usually 192.168.1.1, Netgears are usually 192.168.0.1 Both makes are usually use the username "admin" but use "admin", "password" or "pass" for the password, if one doesn't work try the others. Hope this helps. Damon
