  1. Hi Constabulary That's a great help, it looks like i have quite a lot to do, as expected it was bone dry but with a good oiling it runs very smooth, apparently it came from a shoe repairer of two generations who retired and it looks like its been well looked after as the old guys used to do even a leather patch under the foot. I am also under first option to buy his tools if his son does not want them. if it happens then i will take my pick and then offer the rest on this forum Thanks once again, it was built in 1924 only 22 years before me PS what size 29x4 do you recommend for ~92 or ~138 polyester/nylon I assume 4 is leather point
  2. OK here is the images, its a 29K53 model, only thing that seems to be missing is the needles so any help there would be appreciated as old posts give various answers the bobbin looks very small and I cannot tell what spare ones to buy, is there a way to tell
  3. this link will show you to repair boots minus the machine
  4. I have just brought a singer 29k for £95 so seemed like a good buy and far cheaper than ebay prices Main use will be on belts as pattern so nothing extra tough Been wondering about thread , most posts indicate tex92 or even Tex 138 bonded nylon or polyester, but i was wondering what thread they used prior to the nylon and polyester being available both material and size Being delivered later today so will respond with images then
  5. Does anyone know any dealers selling the FS288 in the UK, be interesting to see what it does on say 1-2 mm veg tan for many hobby people rather than clapped out industrial at silly prices
  6. Found this video about a guy slowing down industrial sewing machine to much slower speed with very basic changes. the last bit converts machine to hand sewing
  7. A easy thing where you have freedom to experiment is leather Sandals and even have small amounts of tooling to make them stand out, economy just two layers of veg tan and a rubber sole If there are any leather furniture or car seat makers around you then they are a good source of off-cuts that vary in size, all chrome leather ideal for tote bags etc,. The top quality ones tend to throw away a lot of leather with just tine blemishes, get some in the UK up to 4 or 6 square foot with just a couple of scratch marks the average person would never find All new start-ups need to invest in equipment and leather but look around for bargain leather rather than Tandy who are expensive Good luck
  8. Ebay UK has this 134W104 for sale at £150 if anyone is interested looks a bit rough but apparently works ok https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Singer-136W104-Needle-Feed-Post-Bed-Industrial-Sewing-Machine-And-Table-Motor/123302620507
  9. Let us in on the secret, who did you use for your training
  10. Fantastic work, you must be proud of your talent
  11. It sounds like you may have brought Chrome leather which is often used for clothes and car seats etc, most hobby and professionals use veg tan leather for a more traditional item which can be tooled to leave a impression on the leather
  12. Presumably they have a office in China if thats where their factory is, you could contact and maybe go direct and cut out the middle man
  13. OK I understand, it was the talk of Skeet that threw me, we have something called practical or something close in the UK a very small group who rapidly shoot as many targets as quick as possible, i guess something like a SAS hostage job using up to 9 shot semi auto's, afraid not my cup of tea and don't have the strength to hold a 9 shot for any length of time
  14. I think if you use a 90 deg rule you would square up all your angles and make sure every thing was at 90 degrees to each other which would make it look better, also on the main bag if you had sewn the seam's on the inside it would have shown a more refined edge (turn bag inside out and sew the seams) Not a bad effort for a first effort
  15. Off the subject a bit, but I am confused by all this I shoot clay's in both sporting and skeet in the UK and nobody ever uses a shotgun belt , just either a pocket or a belt attached pouch that holds the cartridges The only people who use a cartridge belt is for walk up shoots and wildfowlers What is different in the USA
  16. Does anyone know the difference between the PFAFF 141 and the PFAFF 145? Not much info about the 141 apart from operating hand book I think they are both common machines with slight difference , but what is the difference Offered a great price on the 141 and seen it sew 2 x 3mm veg tan ok which would be my max requirement, just looking for more info before i have to jump in
  17. For the UK the wallet size should be enlarged as a £50 note is 156 mm long and 85 mm wide which leaves very little room at the top, I think other countries notes are also quite large
  18. You would be better off using Resolene or a similar finish that fixes a full cover over your work and seals it in
  19. But that brings you down to the Chinese prices for basically the same thing Ritz is a byword of quality accepted by most professionals, the Far East produces a similar item at a far lower price it may well be as long living and basically the same quality as Ritz, but questions will always remain regardless of how many examples of stitches are shown comparing the two or maybe more samples That area is not the middle you originally stated but the bottom end which is a free for all who can get to the bottom first 99% of people on this forum will probably state that John James are the best needles its taken years of marketing to get that result, there may be better needles around but the fact is most people don't want to try them as they know John James needles do what they want I do really wish you luck, but just don't think there is much mileage in what your planning,
  20. Many thanks for that info The main thing that worries me is what seems to be a lack of spare parts or people selling spare parts for Pfaff in the UK and the German site is no better I guess the other makes like Singer etc offer a far more reliable chance of getting spares Compound foot would be nice but far outside my price range for a hobby The Pfaff looks a ideal machine but just worried i may get a pup after a few months with nobody to service or get spares
  21. Basically that's all i know at present apart from it being needle feed and on sale a few hundred miles away, flat bed but great maker and lots of similar models of what looks like the same basic machine like models 141,145,195,335,345,545,595 as the instruction manual classes them all in the same book Only going to be used for normally 2-2.5 mm veg tan and flat bed will suite my needs So little info on the web about old products, no dates service manuals or history of any sort, but lots of virus sites selling manuals
  22. Don't forget the existing companies are experts in their own field and have years of experimenting to get where they are today, that's why there is a cost. how are you going to match that yet be cheaper
  23. Any data and problems with this model PFAFF 141-6B-LMNS
  24. Trouble is you only make to meet demand, they will have a minimum amount that it's economical to make in one batch, often in slow moving colours it's just not worth making more and having a large stock holding (money) tied up If you are making as for the half way house then strong possibility that the buyers are not that interested in the cost of the thread as cost is low in proportion to other costs, but still at the same time interested highly in quality Just my thoughts, could be well wrong
